    I know it's so common today, and I've seen it in so many different podcasts lately but it hit me now how ordinary it is to just look up something on the spot even in the middle of a currently airing show. We just watch while someone fiddles on their phone.

    As a very young lad growing up around 1970 my memory of Brylcreem is that my grandmother would go postal on my grandfather and/or his friends if they leaned back whilst sitting on the plush sofa she had in her living room. Thus leaving big greasy stains on the back of the sofa from their generously slicked hair.

    I’m on chapter 9 in FF7 Rebirth, and so far it’s been great. I’m getting a little tired of all the world map quests but can’t make myself stop. Some have great story and character moments, while others give must-have rewards, making me incapable of skipping any of it. I love where the story is going and like Ben, I’m 100% ok with them changing whatever they want because yes, the original is always there waiting for me, and it has some amazing mods on PC that update the game greatly.
    I also played the Stellar Blade demo and loved it. The combat felt a little slow at first but once I got the parry timing down I had a blast with it. Looking forward to the full game next month.

    BAP you shouldwatch the Xbox podcast. How flattering! They open with "it's a video game podcast" and "what we playing?" Now I really get where the term 'influencers' comes from. They'll never nail your accents though.

    Finally I return to the podcast after missing a few episodes while I was finishing Rebirth, because honestly the boys are not really good with spoilers, I'm with Ben, the changes on the story do not bother me, it will be kinda boring if they made everything exactly the same, and I trust the creative team to tie it allnicely on the last one, which I hope it takes a little less time than rebirth, since it should be shorter?

  • @frankbrodie5168
    @frankbrodie5168 Před 2 měsíci

    Yeah. Regarding the big topic, and no one in the room saying "this is a bad idea" when stuff is discussed to be included as in game systems.
    I think that very thing so often when I'm doing one of the many many many solo instances in FFXIV online, that are just annoying beyond belief. When this actual thing was touted by the game devs.. I refuse to believe that no one in the room quoted that line from the film 'The Mighty Ducks' said by the goalkeep when the team manager tells him it's his job to stand in front of the puck when it's flying towards the net. "Am I the only one that thinks that this is a stupid idea?"

    Dragon's Dogma 2: This is how Capcom has been doing post-launch revenue in their single player games since Devil May Cry 4, about a decade ago and yet very few people had any issues with it until this game. They have a good idea where the line is and how not to cross it. The real money shop is not in the players face every time you boot up the game and the items in said shop cannot be purchased an unlimited amount of times, it's there if you want it but it is by no means necessary.
    Also, Capcom recently announced pay standard increases while many other companies are laying people off. Perhaps their strategy keeps their staff employed and satisfies their higher-ups and shareholders at the same time.

    There was a lot of misinformation in this podcast. For example Dragons Dogma 2 doesn’t actually have a lack of fast travel and you don’t have to walk all the way back to the main city every time. In fact you’re supposed to use a fast travel token everytime you go back, it’s literally why there is always one on sale every time you visit a town and they restock them every single day.

    If you’re paying top dollar for a game, the only monetisation that should be acceptable is for DLC.

    • @makasete30
      @makasete30 Před 2 měsíci

      Yeah. These are minor, pay for convenience MTX that you don’t need to buy at all, but they are still shitty MTX and shouldn’t even be in the game to begin with.
      The crazy thing is some people defending MTX. They all suck and some suck more than others. Once it becomes more acceptable and hardly anyone complains they will be in more games and Capcom will start to add more predatory ones. That’s how greed works. Just ask EA.
      Even with all the misinformation I’m glad this blew up because Capcom and others will be more hesitant now.
      EA only backed down in BF2 when people complained in large numbers and everyone then got a cheaper, better game.
      I still remember people complained about the MTX in RE4 Remake but because capcom added them after the review cycle no major YT channel or publication picked it up so people now think everyone was fine with it. I also saw complaints for DMC as well, but no one reported them.

    • @kingbaard5395

      This is barely monetization. We should be picking these battles with the egregious "I can't get this stuff WITHOUT paying" monetization. This is small small potatoes.

    • @ChrisTomson
      @ChrisTomson Před 2 měsíci

      @@kingbaard5395 microtransactions aren’t suddenly acceptable because it’s a company that people like. Any and all microtransactions are egregious when you’ve already paid for the game.
      If companies “can’t afford to make games” (read: can’t make enough money to keep the parasitic executives and shareholders happy), they shouldn’t be making games. And they sure as heck shouldn’t be passing their extortionate costs onto consumers

      Not really, you’re just buying extra of what you can already get in the game so they are actually just kind of pointless and only someone who had no clue about the game would buy them.

    Being over encumbered is an easy fix. Just distribute the items amongst your pawns. Your main pawn is essentially a second inventory.

    The monetization of this game is EXTREMELY light and people are making mountains of mole hills. All these things are available in game, and Capcom has done this "accelerator" style DLC for a long time on many titles. Why people care now is perplexing.

      They are seeing what they can get away with, testing peoples tolerance levels. If ppl accept this practice it will be normalised across more titles, this is what the companies want.

    Once again the big discussion was a big disappointment. T
    There is a clear difference between the pay to win dlc and this acclerator style dlc. You can get all this stuff in game you just need to grind for it. Capcom simply present their DLC as a means to speed up completion and make their games somewhat easier. If you do not want this simply don't buy it.
    There is clearly a demand for it as they keep doing it and it is not like this is stuff that is not alteady in the game looking at the latest patch notes.

    You're playing DD2 all wrong and also spreading misinformation. You can attack airborne enemies as a thief, you can also jump and grab them out of the air as they swoop in. It's also extremely easy to aim ensnare; what's wrong with you?
    I'm tripping over fast travel items by the way, if you play the game you will too.
    Why did you need to sleep at an inn before turning the game off? That idiocy is on you, don't blame the game for your weird superstitions.
    I get it, it's not the game you were expecting so you're disappointed, ok, but you didn't have appropriate expectations and are playing the games based on your preconceived notions of the genre based on previous games you played. There's a decade old game with the same DNA that you could have checked out, read about the fast travel system etc, but I guess you didnt. Because of that your perspective is simply wrong, do you consider yourself an actual journalist/critic? You're spreading lies about the mts, they were not hidden or a surprise and kooks like you blabbing about what you know nothing about is the only reason that was a "thing".
    I had a similar reaction to the first dark souls. It's too hard, going through the same exact locations (1000 times worse than dd2 for sure in that aspect, all souls-likes) is boring, etc, but I learned to play it on its terms and came to enjoy the gameplay loop it created. Why DD isn't afforded similar artistic freedom baffles me. Either you are unwilling to learn or have completely lost the ability to contextualize new experiences.

    Rebirth is full of fluff. The story is a mess and none of the characters are likeable but I still put 91 hours into it.
