    Thanks for showing us Munich... I haven't been there since 2006 and hope to return soon to visit my Aunt, who turned 92 this year. She lives on the other side of Olympic Park (richtung stadt). My dad was stationed in Munich in early 70's, however he spent most of his time in Vietnam. My mom is from a small town on the Donau, about an and a half north east of Munich. In the late 70's we lived in a small town south of Munich called, Bad Tölz... beautiful little Bavarian town.
    the Eierbecher in the fridge is for "soft" boiled eggs... and yes, very common German breakfast.
    viel Spaß in Minga...

    When you opened the kitchen cupboard I immediately thought if you had guessed correctly what those odd shaped plates are. yes, egg cups! That was a very thorough tour! I used to work in a hotel which had different sized apartments like this. We had a room to store suitcases for long stay guests. Anyway, that seemed very items of clothing for a 2 months stay!

    That egg cup is actually for a soft boiled egg..which is boiled for just 3 minutes...the eggwhite becomes hard while the egg yolk is still liquid and you put it in there then peel the half of the shell and with a little spoon you then have to scratch out the eggwhite with the liquid egg yolk.
    That´s what is called in German "Frühstücksei" meaning "breakfast egg"
    And in most cases those balcony doors are tiltable as well...you have to try out if the lever is turnable in both directions up and down while the door is closed, when you can turn the lever up then the door will tilt opening just a gap on the top for letting in fresh air.

    I word of advice, which by the way has nothing to do with discrimination. And base my opinion on a person by their actions. Be very cautious with regards to who will be your neighbors. I am currently living near Indian computer engineering students. Ever since they moved in I have been having issues with my Wifi and computer network being hacked. Besides that, they like to save money and so they will fit about 4 people in a one bedroom apartment. Which causes excessive noise at all hours. Additionally they like having phone conversations outside which usually tends to be in front of other tenants apartments which can cause a disturbance. When they use the laundry room they leave the clothes in the machines over night and do not clean up after themselves once they are done. Additionally, They are not very clean in general. Once a cat must have taken a dump near their front door and they never cleaned it up. This attacted flies in my home. It was a mess.

      I had the same experiences with indian tenants. Matt seems to be a bit different to most of the other Americans (in a very positive way).

    Munich is a fabulous city and one I visit often. How long will you remain in Germany during this trip or are you moving there permanently? Thank you for showing us your bike rides, hikes, and it was fun watching your around Munich video.

    How was it finding an apartment? It's the one thing that scares me when planning to move to Munich.

    • @MattSuozzo
      @MattSuozzo  Před 3 lety +2

      This place was easy to find and book, however, it is more of an extended stay hotel (serviced apartment) than a full blown real apartment. I do think you can live here full time though if you want.

      @@MattSuozzo Good to know there are places like that. If you don't mind me asking, how did book a place like that? Was it a specific website or did you search for something specific?

      So cool you are moving to Munich, enjoy! I ended up staying there for two months and even though it was small, it never felt cramped, having the small balcony helped. Much longer it would be nicer to have a larger apartment.

    No A/C is the default here in Germany. Climate change might slowly change that in the years to come, but until a few years ago there were very few days where somebody would really miss that.
    In the summer air out the apartment at the evening, when it cools down, throughout the night and close the windows when it starts getting hot. Also use the "Rollladen" (kind of sturdy blinders outside of the window, don't know the English word) to prevent a green house effect caused by your windows on such days.

    • @MattSuozzo
      @MattSuozzo  Před 3 lety +1

      I like the natural ventilation. It helps that, at least right now, there is very low humidity, and cool at night.
