Gameplay
Rise of the Tomb Raider is a third-person action-adventure game that features similar gameplay found in 2013's Tomb Raider. Players control Lara Croft through various environments, battling enemies, and completing puzzle platforming sections, while using improvised weapons and gadgets in order to progress through the story.
The game will feature a crafting system, allowing players to create items by scavenging materials from plants and animals in the game's harsh environment.
The in-game environment will include a weather system that both human and animal characters can react to and a day-night cycle. For example, to create a hardier winter coat Lara must hunt a wolf which only comes out during a specific time of day and specific weather condition. Lara can swim which will add to Lara's mobility and combat tactics.
Combat has been redesigned with more options for stealth and sneak attacks. Lara can confuse enemies using the environment, hide behind bushes or in trees, or avoid combat altogether by climbing trees or traveling across roof tops. The bow and arrow return from Tomb Raider. Options for multiple bows can be fashioned from specific animals and materials that Lara can hunt and salvage. Other weapons such as her pistol and climbing axe make a return, plus an added hunting knife for melee or sneak attacks.
Plot
Set after Tomb Raider, Lara Croft's experience of the supernatural on Yamatai has been covered up by the organization Trinity. In order to prove she is not insane, Lara becomes obsessed with finding the truth behind myths around the world.[4] Rise of the Tomb Raider follows Lara Croft as she searches Siberia for the ancient city Kitezh, built by Georgy II, the Grand Prince of Vladimir in the 13th century, which Lara believes holds some truth behind immortality. In a race against Trinity, a well funded organization interested in the supernatural, Lara must survive against humans, animals, and the environment in order to find the truth behind the myths and become who she is destined to be.

Honestly in my opinion this is the best Lara has ever looked , instead of like a model she actually looks like an adventure who endured plenty of horrible things and has the scars to prove them. Don't get me wrong I like all of Lara's looks but this one just sells it the best I think.

I am very new to computers and games (at 60 yrs old!) and this video, of which I thought I would watch 5 mins or so, had me enthralled and I will be watching the next part very soon. I am thinking of getting this for myself, but I do not think I will be clever enough to play it - I have all the "gear" - xbox 360 pc controller, joystick and steering wheel (!!) but as I said, so new and so far, American Truck Sim and Fernbus are easy for me, but Lara Croft ..... methinks to fast and furious, but it might keep me occupied for a long time. Huh, I really don't like the physic of this game... Now don't get me wrong, it's visually beautiful! Out of this world! But the physic of the game feels like Lara is too light, like a feather in the wind or something, like she's isnt an entire part of the universe she's evolving into? I guess we arent there yet.
I also find that the story and gameplay is going, evolving much to fast! Wall breaking would be a good example. I like to take my time when I play an exploration game and she just break them all down like freaking Hulk, I mean... Look at the size of her arms.
Another example would be at 29:20, when you have to fill up the room with water to climb up! It literally takes like... 5 second?
Personally, I wouldn't have mind to wait 5minutes... Or even 10minutes literally waiting for it to fill up!
But everything is going so fast that you barely even have time to appreciate scenes, landscapes, every design put in place, or simply to appreciate the really present moment itself of playing an exploration game, slowly, without being stressed of moving and running fucking everywhere constantly.
The really exploration aspect it self get ruined by this rush of moving quickly to the next scenes over and over again, without real pause to think and use our imaginations, I find it to ruin the immersion.
Now I must admit that they really surprised me around 26:17, the scorpion part. I was abit scared, honestly.. I felt anxious!
They really did a good job there, I was feeling like, just like I was there myself! Right behind her, watching out carefully, Oh, stressfully for Scorpios!!
BUT... I would have appreciated for Lara, once again, to have more trouble breaking down that damned wall... This way would have made this scene, among other similar scenes, much more stressful and insidious, specialy seeing how it was slowly turning out... And ultimately stays printed into our minds much harder, almost like little traumas.
This helps alot into reinforcing the player proximity to this alternative realm, to develop a more ready link of closeness with the main character of the story, since we truly live an epic adventure at it's side, living true emotions, which then Greatly reinforce the immersion and appreciation of the story.
Overall seem like an average game, I'll play it under my own rules so that the story doesn't unscroll itself too quickly! But God knows how much I miss these old, puzzling, immersive and well built games.

I realise I'm in the Minority here, but I'd just like to say that I think this game is a steady 6 out of 10. The last game was a solid 9/10. The story is weak, the characters forgettable, there's far too much paraphernalia to distract from the adventure, the weapon upgrades never really do anything, the combat is sparse, the fonts are so small & transparent to the point where you have to squint, there's no need for a shop, there's no BIG SCARY MONSTER this time, the dialogue scrolls & parchment pouches are too frequent & insipid, there's not as much interaction with the environment this time, there are too many annoying challenges in a single area, the tombs never encourage a re-play, the music is the worst kind of cheaply made generic feral drum rhythms I've ever heard, & the setting is DULL... WHITE... BORING... COLD.. MISERABLE... & BLAND! lol!
The last game was a paradise! You had rain forests, blood pits, caves, pagodas, mountain peeks, temples, shanty town, a ship yard, a beach, a derelict bunker, hill tops, & much much more.
I'm not saying it's a bad game. But it doesn't hold a candle to the original. You don't feel sorry for the villains who are just trying to survive out of love. :(

+Caldera Records This is actually a common complaint with Rise, such that some reviewers are calling it a "2nd Origin Story". The Lara here is barely any different to the Lara was saw at the end of the 2013 game. It too much more of the same, atmosphere-wise. Sure it plays awesome, but so did MGSV and that game was an unfinished mess. This game may have been crafted better, but it's still no different from Dragon Age Inquisition in my book. Another game that just filled gaming quotas on what would please critics best and not taking actual risks with regards to the story.

I came to this video after watching a few minutes of the E3 gameplay demo. It was running smoothly and looked pretty amazing in terms of detail. I remember thinking "it'll never look this way on Xbox One." "The gameplay demos always look better than the actual game." Yup, that demo was running on a PC, and on the PC when it releases next year it'll look like that gameplay demo did.
