  • Just a quick video to show you around an installed TSDZ2 motor and give you an idea of what you'll need to do to install one and what you'll need to get in advance of the install.

Thinking of adding a Bafang to the Q as it is quiet.

Informative and helpful video. From whom did you order the motor and battery? How do I get a cable extension? I have watched the video and it seems to be a fairly easy fit but do you know the crank lengths? I ride on 155mm as I have knee and hip problems and this relieves some of the pressure on the joints. Depending on the length of the cranks in the kit, can I get shorter ones from somewhere?

You can order a loom but with the standard loom you need to extend a couple of wires yourself. No big deal.

I'd be interested in your frame mounts for the batteries. I managed to find some brackets that work on some trike frames as long as the mainframe diameter is 2 inches or less.

They're just L brackets made from 2.5mm alumium. Along the side that the battery sits on I'm attached so 3M Dual Lock which just helps to keep them firmly in place. The a couple of velcrose straps around each battery.

Hi Martin! I barely hear anything from mine. In fact, at any speed over 10mph the wind cancels out any noise from the motor at all. With regards chain wear, I use a KMC E9 EPT chain, which is designed to use with mid-motors. That said, I spoke to ICE trikes and they use standard chains on their Fat trikes with the Shimano Steps and don't seem to get any problems to speak of. Here's the chain I use:

Did you have to remove the entire original crankset AND bottom bracket parts before placing the TSDZ2 in? Or did you leave the bottom bracket and simply slide the TSDZ2 into that? Thanks!

As I remember you had to remove both.

You said you have two batteries. Did you connect them in parallel or switch between each one.

I have two identical packs under the seat of my trike connectef in parallel through a Schottkey diode to isolate them from each other but allow the combined output. I charge them at the same time with two chargers.

@@etrike7004 G`day mate , just wondering how your Tongsheng motor is holding up , as i`m contemplating building an e trike myself and weighing up my options .
Very nice trike and set up you have there by the way .
I am a bit of an ice fan , however trike suppliers in Australia seem few and far between , or i would probably just buy one .
      All the best mate .

How are you liking the assist and the torque sensing? Did you end up getting a derailleur to work with that double chain ring and can you please share a link for that double ring conversion if you can. I think your setup looks pretty ideal, and also uses a very affordable motor.

The double chain ring was ordered from eBay as I recall. Yes, you can get the derailleur to work.
