    First of all thank you for your videos which gave me the courage to tackle this operation. Just finished my swap in my stock 5.3L 05 GMC Sierra. Its driving wonderfully with a few small issues to work out.
    1. I had a torque converter bolt ticking noise that turned out to be the 4l60 plastic cover interfering with the new 4l80E aluminum inspection cover. (Remove plastic cover and discard)
    2. The downstream 02 Sensor both banks giving me a code. (Might be two exhaust leaks, dirty sensors or just bad sensors from banging around) 3. I have an unknown ringing on hard take off almost sounds like the flywheel touching the starter gear. (unsolved inspection cover again maybe?)
    4. I had an aluminum drive shaft driveshaft company said they couldn't get a good weld on it and gave me the ol steel shaft if ya know what I mean. I feel like they just wanted to re-sell my aluminum but honestly it was no good to me as is and I have confidence in a steel driveshaft under load. (good scam if ya ask me)
    5. My Gear shifter has PRND21 and I cannot shift to the 1 position and I just read the 4l80E has 7 Positions? PRND2 are all functioning fine I just cant physically shift into 1.
    I bought a trans depot stage 1 btw...

    Hi, great video!
    I just installed 6.0 and 4l80e to my 2000 Tahoe. I struggled a lot to get the transfer case in. I had to loosen the torsion bar cross member, which gave me 1/2 " more clearance. I also removed the exhaust shield under the car. The only problem I notice after installation, is the tight space for filling the transfer case with oil. Have some minor work left before I can add oils and flash the ecm.

I think it would really help last longer with having less strain and wear and tear on the 4l80 than 4l60 and it would be easier on the engine to save fuel and require less effort to get up to higher speeds on interstate plus it would help a lot with the 4x4

    • @TahoeSteve
      @TahoeSteve Před 3 lety +2

      I really don't want to think about it but I will take a swing at this off the top of my head:
      $2300 trans
      $800 Circle D 3000-3200 Torque Converter with Billet,
      $100+ for the wire harness,
      $100+ for the flexplate
      $100+ for the front drive shaft
      $100 to have rear drive shaft shortened
      $50 trans cooler lines
      Crossmember - Free (but I already owned a welder)
      I already had HP Tuners to do the swap, but this needs to be considered in your budget to either buy it, or have someone do the segment swap for you.
      $100+ ??? NSS, Transfercase adapter, bolts, gaskets, dipstick tube
      And don't forget how expensive all that ATF is.

    I know everybody wants to swap out a 4l60e for a 4l80e but I have a good 4l60e with 20k miles or so on it and I have a friend with a 3/4 ton Suburban with what I am assuming is a 4l80e in it and he needs a tranny. Does anybody know if the tranny I have would be able to be swapped into his truck. The one I have I pulled from a wrecked 2000 half ton Silverado he has I think its an 02 or 03 Suburban 3/4 ton with the 6 liter. Think that tranny is all that is left of the truck and it only had around 20k miles on it, the rest was used rebuilding other wrecked trucks or scrapped. He was quoted at $2k for a rebuild so I was wondering if I could just give him this tranny I have if its possible to do the swap

    The only easy way to instal that transfer case is to lift it by hand, its only 80lbs and that torsion bar crossmember gets in the way of using a jack

    I want to convert my 2000 GMC 3500HD dually to 4WD. It has a straight I-beam axle in the front with leaf springs, a Dana 80 in the rear, 7.4 Vortec (454) and a 4L80E trans. Not sure if I should go with a Dana 60 or Dana 70 in the front. Any advice?

    Nice video. Would you do anything differently if you did it again? I have a 05 4x4 Yukon 5.3L. 233,000 miles. Looking to get a used cheap broken 4L60/65/70 to rebuild with my teen as a DIY learning project. To have ready. I found a used one for $60, with nothing but Reverse working. Thanks!

    Hey Steve I've been watching you for a while now. And I never noticed that you redid your transmission twice. Question is it possible to build a 4l60 to high torque and high horsepower ratings? Or will I have to 4l80 my Tahoe?

    • @TahoeSteve
      @TahoeSteve Před 4 lety +1

      First, thanks for watching! I can only speak from my personal experience. I started adding HP and blew my stock 4L60e. I had the 4L60e rebuilt by a professional shop with the following goodies:
      * z-Pack 3-4 clutches
      * Corvette Servo
      * Beast Sun Shell
      * 500 boost valve
      * B&M Shift Kit
      * Hughes Torque Converter.....
      And then I blew it again inside 2 years and I am only making mid 300's at present. I'm going turbo, and thus, the 4L80e. But if I (instead) had the 4L60e rebuilt again (and was not going turbo), I would be on pins and needles waiting for it to let go again. Hope this helps.

    • @pmotorsports8276
      @pmotorsports8276 Před 4 lety +2

      4L80E, you can build the 4L60E up. But by design it'll get 1/2 the miles as 4L80E. 4L60E shares 1/2, 3/4 clutches. Everything gets used twice. 4L80E only shares 3 and reverse.

      @@pmotorsports8276 ... Wow I did not know that. Thank you. Now I'm thinking if I should camm heads when rebuilding my 5.3 or should I stroke it to 383. More power is best in my opinion. But I was consearned about the transmission not being able to handle the power. I love your channel because you did and are doing what I want done on my Tahoe.
