    Hi Steve . Just wondering which airline you used to fly to key west . How did you manage with your bike ? Flying from the uk is not a problem but the Miami to Key west is with American eagle and I can’t find any info . Thanks .,,, I was quizzing you for info about 2 years ago but my trip didn’t happen due to covid . Looking good for may this year .

    • @steveretiredandcycling
      @steveretiredandcycling  Před rokem +1

      Hi Shane, Hope you are doing well. Good to hear that you are finally able to make it to the USA this year. I flew from Newark New Jersey (EWR) to Key West on United Airlines. I use United only because I have lifetime priority status and fly my bike for free. I believe that American, United and Delta will fly your bike with a normal baggage fee. When planning my trips I usually check Expedia and Kayak for the cheapest flights then book directly with the Airlines. When flying my bike I use a robust cardboard box sold by "Ship Bikes". Its worked out well so far. On my flights back home I pre-order another box and have it mailed to my final destination hotel. Any other questions just ask. Take care, Steve

    Hi Steve . Enjoying watching your videos . I was supposed to fly UK to cycle Maine to Miami 10 months ago but Covid stopped me . How much of the Florida ride is on East Coast greenway ? I’m hoping to do some ECG and some Adventure cycle route . Using warm showers and camping . Are the section on roads ECG ?????

    • @steveretiredandcycling
      @steveretiredandcycling  Před 3 lety

      Hi there and thank you for watching my journey! Yes, all the sections on the road are the ECG. The route I took has about 60-70% on the road. The ECG from Key West to Homestead FL about 90% on the road. There is only one road between those two points and it's mostly on the road without many path's. From the FL state line north, Georgia, South Carolina north I recommend the Adventure Cycling route over the ECG. Much safer. The ECG north of Florida is dangerous with little to no shoulders on the road. It gets better in North Carolina. Hope you can make it this summer. I had a similar problem last summer. We were going to cycle the Arctic Coast of Norway but COVID cancelled that trip. Thanks again, All the best, Steve

      @@steveretiredandcycling Hi Steve . Thanks for you reply . I m hoping to do mostly Adventure Cycle Route from Portland Maine down to around NYC . Then it’s a combination of ECG and AC . I don’t want to hire a truck like you did in SC , was wondering is this road/s that you avoided the same as AC route ???? . I think from there heading south it will be all ECG . Thanks for your help ! .... if you have a spare hour or so , check out some of my CZcams videos. I just did Dubai and six months ago I did John o groats -lands end . The year before was California. I get the majority of my info for rides from YT . So will definitely watch your again before I make final plans ( if covid allows) Thanjs again

    • @steveretiredandcycling
      @steveretiredandcycling  Před 3 lety

      @@yshane2860 Thanks for the comment. The AC route through SC is much better than the ECG. The AC goes a little more inland on safer roads. I will be traveling north through SC in September and will take the AC. Already researched it and looks like a better route through SC. I will get back on the ECG after leaving SC since the two trails intersect.

Both have carbon frames and rated to carry 25lbs in the front and 25lbs over the rear tire. Great bikes, however I wish they would accept wider than 40mm tires.
