Louis Spohr (1784-1859) - Duo for Violin & Viola in E minor, op. 13 I. Allegro Moderato - 0:00 II. Adagio - 8:07 II. Tempo di minuetto - 12:32 Antje Weithaas - Violin Tabea Zimmermann - Viola
Spohr has his own style as a composer, different from his contempories and - once You get familiar with it - also recognizable. He found the time to compose hundreds of works, great and small, many of them hauntingly beautiful as this Duo, he had a busy concert-scedule, he was "Kapellmeister" at Kassel, he travelled, he painted, he taught hundreds of pupils during his long life in music and he wrote an interesiting self-biographie, where we among many interesting other details can read, that in 1816 some Italians were singing at night in the streets of Milano arias and pieces from Italian operas in 3 and 4 parts. Yet he had no modern media to make his large correspondence easier, no jets, no fast train to bring him to his many destinations, every mile had to be done by horse-carriages, yet by the end of his fullfilled life some slow-speed-trains had appeared.
you probably dont care but if you guys are bored like me atm you can stream pretty much all of the latest movies and series on InstaFlixxer. Been streaming with my brother for the last weeks xD
Truly insightful comment. Listening to Spohr I kept asking myself what was his distinctive note. The best I could come up with is a plaintive quality in his work. You're characterization is better.

Outstanding, let's best of the best within the Grammy awards ...
Beautiful! And that adjective describes most of Spohr's output.
This loveliest work so wonderfully soothes the soul...
Spohr had a unique talent for representing a contained pain, a serene melancholy.
This is such a beautiful comment!
