I was at Derrick's first show with Sepultura, in Cleveland, Ohio. Everyone knew Max was gone, no one knew anything about the new singer. When the lights came on & the music started, everyone's jaws were on the floor in shock to see a black man center stage with a mic in his hand. After the first song, his color didn't matter, Derrick proved his worth. It was a top notch show, one of the best I've been too. Granted, Max can not be replaced, same story when any band looses it's frontman.
They eventually slowed it back down later on after the Roorback era as you can see in current shows afterwards. As well as a more style change after Dante and after Igor’s departure

@@LucasPenido No caso do Sepultura eles se manteram bem mesmo sem o Max Cavaleira, eu vejo uma qualidade muito boa no vocal do Derrick principalmente nesse último álbum o "Quadra". E realmente, gente putinha por conta da saída do Max é muito viúva mesmo.
Don't think it is racism. A lot of us liked Max and took time to get used to Derrick. But now after all these years I don't miss Max and think Derrick is a brilliant front man. It's great to see blacks in metal/rock scene. Let's see more.

It’s weird, but I kind of like how there are two Sepultura bands now (Sepultura itself and the Cavalera Conspiracy). The Cavalera brothers now have their own new project, while we get to hear Paulo and Andreas keep Sepultura going with the addition of Derrick and Eloy. Both great bands, and both worth listening to. I do like post-Max Sepultura a lot.

Ele era o principal compositor junto com o Andreas, teve muita bolacha dele nos clássicos mais aclamados do Sepultura. E ele tinha uma voz marcante e forte pro estilo, pena que hoje tá acabado.

É o mesmo que comparar sepultura com angra, mas Slipknot é bom demais é a minha banda preferida 🤘🏽🤘🏽
Tive o previlégio de assistir um show deles aqui em Jaú, SP, muito foda, os caras ao vivo quebram tudo, o legal é que depois do show, eles abriram o camarim, receberam todos, gente boa demais o grupo.
Honestly Derrick just gives the band a whole different energy. You cannot compare sepultura before and after Max. But they're still fucking awesome! Last summer I saw them live and it was an absolutely perfect mix of old and newer sepultura music ❤
My bro and I met Derrick in a pub in Cambridge after their Motorhead show back in 2004. I knew of Sepultura but didn't know them too much - but Derrick was awesome and kind to us. He even gave us his email address. Back in the day! Music still kicks ass!
Never heard of this band. Never heard of this song. First time experiencing this. Tbh never seen a band like this. And it’s not just because the lead singer is black (although it is pretty rare) but his vocals are crazy as hell and the guitarist is sick.
derrick did come a long way, but some og sepultura fan still can't move on with max. it was just fkin hell back then. their music did a lot of character back then. no complicated shreds, just pure badass brutal grooves. their music never gets old unlike old school metal that needs to have a solo shreds in between. they pave way for dawn of NU metal.
I grew up listening to Sepultura, cut my teeth on Schizophrenia, quoted Max Cavalera in my high school year book and even loved them during their "nu metal" phase with Roots... and I'm here to tell ya, Derrick is a better vocalist.. super painful but true to even type it.
