This will be my 2nd RAGBRAI. You will love it, just remember it’s not a race, if it takes all day, who cares, there will be 5,000 people next to you doing it with you at all times, they are expecting 20,000+ people
I can’t even imagine all of the people. It’s good to hear you’re going back for a 2nd!!
Watch kara and nate video on ragbrai will give you some hints plus show you the fun thats had. Plus theres plenty of other videos on what to take, pack etc
OOo I love watching Kara and Nate! Them tackling ragbrai last year certainly pushed us over the edge to do it. Although watching how tired they were at the end of the day makes me nervous, it should be a blast!
Your worst day for weather so far is going to be Saturday at 98. Sunday thru Thursday looks like low 80s.
There is a 96 yr old man that does Ragbri, his name is Clarence. He will have a sign on his bike. Last yrs was sakes alive doing ragbri at 95.
Right on... I am doing RAGBRAI for the first time this year as well
YES! It should be a blast. I just checked weather and it looks like the first few days will be warm but mid 80s after that!
@@LauraOnTheMove Yeah I have been watching the weather forecast... its gonna be a blast
Roller-coaster ride
Have a great ride! I think this event will be challenging for you but diffidently do able. Make sure you've got water. Will need to replace the salts. If you're feeling overly hot stop on the side of the road, find a shady tree take a short break.
I was once 205 lbs overweight and out of shape. I lost about 45 lbs over a year in 2013 just by biking. I've kept the weight off. So what I've learned over the past 9 years is the better shape your in the faster, and easier you can do things, recovery time is faster too.
So enjoy this journey soak up every moment. A huge tip, try to spin fast. Better to shift down to an easier gear and spin your legs faster. You use more cardio than muscles that way and helps you ride for longer and you'll feel less tired. Just soak up each moment, and try to keep up with riding after the event. If you keep up with it you'll find biking a very rewarding sport and you'll gain many friends along the way. You may even try other sports you never thought of trying. What has started with biking has lead to many other adventures in my life.
Enjoy the journey. Don't forget to try some pie. Iowa is my home state, but haven't been back in 20 years.
I saw you out there with your youtube page listed on your back.
Yes! We were hoping people would see the shirts and come check out the channel. Should have our first video up from the ride next Sunday!
Fun seeing others training for RAGBRAI as well. We're from CO and this will be our first year too so *maybe* we'll see you out there among the other 20,000 riders! We're at about the same in terms of training - about 15 miles 3x's a week then larger on the weekend though the furthest we went was 55 miles. We definitely plan on also going with your idea to dip our toes in the Mississippi instead of the tire! New traditions!
😅 we’ll be true newbies with wet feet! Fun to hear you’re training is about the same. I’m excited to get out there and see how it is!
Oh my goodness! My husband has done this many times! He loves it! Not going this year though…..
That’s awesome! I like hearing that people did it multiple times! Also awesome that he bikes and you kayak!!
Hmm I’m a tad behind, but I’m surprised you’re selling you van!!! I assume getting something better maybe? Also goodluck with that aka the race.
He is a cyclist though. Like he went to France last September to ride parts of the Tour.
