Dude! I've worked with kids like this, sometimes more severe, and only once a week did the company I worked for ever let the kids be exposed to music. And even then it was just a cd playing, not actual instruments. I love these videos, they bring a tear to my eye because I have such a heart for these kids. Keep up the good work man!

I would absolutely love to have a job like this. these videos just warm my heart so much. music has been a big part of my life for as long as I can remember, and to be able to share it with someone who needs it would just make me so happy. I've never really had an experience with children who have special needs, but I think it would be great to be able to connect with them. I also think I would need to have some more skill with the instruments I play, like piano, guitar, and ukulele. but overall, I think this would be a wonderful job.

Hey Ryan! You're probably getting sick of hearing from us music therapy students from USU. I loved how in your first clip you were able to integrate modern technology in your session. I was just wondering if you had a specific music app you used, either in this example or in other sessions. I think one of the most important things as music therapists is keeping up with the times. Being able to use modern technology in a session is a good way to connect with clients, especially with children with special needs, since they probably use different applications of technology at home. Do you know of any music therapy apps, or music apps in general, that can be helpful in music therapy sessions?
    Thanks,
    Kelsey

Hi Ryan, I'm a music therapy student at USU as well, and I have a quick question for you. I noticed that around 2:50 you waited a while for the client to respond before continuing. In my experience so far, I have found it difficult to know whether to keep waiting after I ask a question or to prompt for the answer. Do you have any thoughts on this? How long did it take you become comfortable with waiting?
Also, I have one more question. Do you think it is more effective to use well-known children's songs or to introduce less well-known or original songs? I am doing my practicum at a preschool right now, and I have wondered whether it is as effective to use new songs that the children are not familiar with.
    Thank you,
    Sarah
