  • If Jesus was in the tomb on Friday and resurrected on Sunday, then He wasn't in the womb for the full 3 days and 3 nights. Was it just figurative? When did Jesus really die? The answer may surprise you.
    John Harris, director of Living Waters Europe presents this informative video which breaks down the Jewish holidays to work out which day Jesus would have really died.

      Jesus resurrected on Sunday early morning.
      Jesus was crucified on Thursday and died on the cross and buried on the evening of Thursday which is the first hour of Friday.
      Jesus was in the tomb all Friday night and the jews sealed His tomb on Friday morning and left him in the tomb for friday morning this is a complete 1st day.
      Jesus remained in the tomb for Saturday night and nothing happened on Saturday morning and this is the 2nd complete day.

      Look at Luke account. Luke is writing to Gentials. Read Luke 1:1-4, this is vitally important because if this isn't true then it makes the entire gospel of Luke wrong. Start at Sunday which is Luke 24:1 the Luke 23:56 is Saturday then Luke 23:53 is His crucifixion which is Friday. So in these 5 verses you get Friday through Sunday. Lukes gospel is very clear.

      Sir, just read Luke 1:1-4 it states that he investigated everything interviewing those who were eyewitnesses and he wrote down everything in consecutive order. This is vitally important. This is the Holy Spirit writing scripture. Now just read starting at Jesus resurrection which is on early Sunday morning according to Luke 24:1. Backup one scripture and you will see the Sabbath day which is Saturday. Then back up a couple of verses you will see that he was crucified on Friday. Remember Luke's gospel is written to an all Gentile audience.

      The Gospels tells us that Jesus was crucified on a Friday,
      .The reason why John said that Sabbath was a high day, was because it was Passover week.
      If you read the gospels the week that Jesus was crucified, You will only find ONE Sabbath, The weekly Saturday Sabbath.
      The Gospels tells us that Jesus was crucified the day before the Sabbath and rose the day after the Sabbath day.
      John tells us that Jesus was crucifies 5 days after Palm Sunday, Vs 1 & v12, with Matt 26: 2. Which means it was a Friday.
      Mark's gospel tells us what Jesus did from day to day, from Palm Sunday to resurrection Sunday, And Jesus was still alive on Friday until 3pm.

A Bible app with search was a big help to find the passages that explain the Mosaic laws for the feast days. Something else I discovered was that the Feast of Unleavened Bread was a remembrance of the 7 day journey out of Goshen to Succoth to rest and regroup the 2-3million into tribes prepared to march, this is the first High Sabbath. They rested, but could prepare food. The 7th day is also a High Sabbath of rest allowing only preparation of food. This is in remembrance of crossing the Red Sea safely.

    Great detailed explanation. I’ve been digging in to research this time-line and came to the same conclusion. But I would put a somewhat finer point on the time of day of His crucifixion and death.
    Matthew 27:35-50 Jesus was already on the cross by noon (the 6th hour) and gave up the ghost around 3:00 pm (the 9th hour.)
    Matthew 27:45 “Now from the sixth hour until the ninth hour there was darkness over all the land.”
    In the time it took for Joseph of Arimathea to go to Pilate to beg for the body of Jesus and have it granted and to arrange for - and take down the body - and get Him into the tomb - it was near sunset - the start of the High Sabbath.
    Thank you for putting this video together - I'll be sharing it with family and friends who insist on Easter eggs and bunny rabbits.

      Jesus spent His 3rd night in the tomb and resurrected on the 3rd day Sunday morning.
      These are the 3 full nights and 3 days.
      Please take note that the day starts from the sun set not from midnight.

    Love this video! As the scriptural truth is revealed. Key points:
    1. The time of burial is the exact time of the resurrection, just before sunset. ***
    2. The 14th of Nisan was the Passover and was a day of preparation for the feast day, which was the 15th of Nisan (A high day Sabbath).
    3. Jusus had to be placed into the tomb on the 14th of Nisan, a Wednesday, before the high day Sabbath (a Thursday) began at Sunset.
    4. The completion time of the burial of Jesus was just minutes or even seconds “before” the sun set. ***
    5. The time of the resurrection occurred 3 days and 3 nights (72 hours) after Jesus was buried.
    6. The resurrection occurred late in the day just before sunset on a Saturday the 17th of Nisan, which was a weekly Sabbath day (The day God rested from all his work).
    7. Jesus presents himself as the “first fruits” on Sunday the 18th of Nisan, which is known as the 1st day of the week.
    8. The resurrection of Jesus on the Weekly Sabbath day was foreshadowed in Genesis, when "The Ark 'rested' in the seventh month, on the 'seventeenth day' of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat" (See Gensis 8:4). ***
    9. Note1: The seventh month later became the 1st month Nisan after the Exodus from Egypt (See Exodus 12:2).
    10. Matthew 12:40 was fulfilled perfectly, which proved to the world that Jesus was the Messiah.
    11. Note2: There is only one year, within range, where there was a "Wednesday" crucifixion followed by two Sabbaths, with one normal day (which was a Friday) between the two Sabbaths. Care to take a guess what year? My calculations show that year was AD 31.

      Skip the blasphemy over YESHUA getting inspired by Buddhism an Hinduism or that He was twice married, but know for a fact.
      If YESHUA revealed himself in flesh and blood after His Crucifixion, He did not ascend to Heaven in a physical body which He had at the time, unless He took an Indian flying machine to reach His destination (Afghanistan, Pakistan, India 🇮🇳 the lands of the 10 lost tribes of Israel).
      There is NO ASCENSION. Therefore YESHUA fled Palestine and He did not just vanish in thin air.
      Not only that He was not born on 25 of December which is a pagan birthday of Tamuz, but He lived to be over 120 years old and ministered every day to the Lost tribes of Israel.
      It is revolutionary.
      Luke lied to us in the Gospel of Luke and in Acts when he spread the Ascension theory in order to Divinize YESHUA. Paul wanted to explain his vision by saying that YESHUA came to speak to him in Greek, and He couldn't do it unless YESHUA would be a spirit, while all the disciples of YESHUA knew that He lives. When YESHUA said that He cannot stay long in Palestine He meant He has to return to the lost Sheep of Israel in Asia, where He came from.
      It is a shocking thing but the time of truth came, and The Bride 👰🏻 of Christ needs to learn the truth.
      Please watch the Documentary and read the writings collected by Nicolas Notovitch in Tibet. They were written by buddist monks and the words of YESHUA are exactly like in the Gospels. The same message which is not Buddhism or Hinduism.
      May God bless you and help you comprehend this Truth.
      Also the Jews outside Asia need to know this. He is their
      Massiach.
      The Church will be shaken once the truth comes out, but the chosen ones will stay strong.

      The passion of Christ is part of the three days. (See Isaiah 53.)
      He was already "In the belly of the beast"
      Rome was that beast.
      And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, "The Son of man shall be betrayed *into the hands of men*
      And they shall kill him, and *the third day* he shall be raised again"...
      {Matthew 17:22-23}
      (Not after the third day)
      For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, "The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and *after* that *he is killed* he shall rise the third day.”
      {Mark 9:31}
      --[Friday] known as preperation (for the sabbath) day (from evening to evening) starts with the last supper, followed by being delivered into the hands of men to be chastised and afflicted, after that he is killed.
      And now when the even was come, because it was *the preparation* that is, the day before the sabbath.
      {Mark 15:42}
      And it was *the preparation* of the passover, and about the sixth hour: [noonday] and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King!
      ...
      Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.
      Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid.
      There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews' *preparation day* for the sepulchre was nigh at hand.
      {John 19:14, 40-42}
      (Jesus rest in the tomb on the seventh day sabbath, which was the beginning of a new creation where man is once again reconciled to his Creator God.)
      And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid.
      And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and *rested the sabbath day [Saturday] according to the commandment*
      {Luke 24:55-56}
      Now upon *the first* day of the week, [Sunday] very *early in the morning* they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
      And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.

After church I went up to him and brought up this topic. He pointed out to me that there was more than one sabbath that week that Jesus Died. I always knew that the word of God was true according to the original intent of those that wrote it; but sometimes the form that their words are in by the time it finally makes its way to us confuses us, and we miss some (or all) of what was originally intended. He didn’t have the opportunity to explained it as clearly and in such great detail as you have just done, but now I more clearly understand what he was talking about (I accepted what he said back then, but now I understand it better). Then be arrested that same night, and then crucified during the day after the sun comes up on that same passover day which started the evening before at sunset, but doesn’t end until sundown on the day of crucifiction. That is why they had to hurry to burry him before sundown. Because at sundown the “high day” would begin. They count “days” differently than we do. We count the start of a date at midnight in the middle of the night before we arise, they count the start of a date at sundown the evering before which is even before eating the evening meal.

    Thanks for this. I've been aware of this argument for a number of years now, and believe it is the correct argument - as long as you stick to the Hebrew calendar.
    My problem with the Friday argument, or even Wednesday, is the synchronization of the calendars. Especially the weekly syncing. The Hebrew is a clear lunar calendar, whereas Gregorian is not. I'm unconvinced that the first day of the week on the Hebrew calendar was always on a Sunday - just for example. Other than this question, which may need a very deep dive into the history of the calendars, I do agree with what you are saying.
    Praise God we do not need to use mental gymnastics working three days into Friday to Sunday. It does sound forced and it does make Jesus sound like a liar.

    Joh 19:31 "The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, *_(for that sabbath day was an high day,)_* besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away." - King James Bible.
    *_(for that sabbath day was an high day,)_* is not Saturday so this event crossed over 2 Sabbaths.
    I am not familiar with the Jewish High days, researching them gives the correct answer.
    You are correct, I wrote this at the beginning of this video.

    The problem with your theory is that the scriptures tell us that the women followed Joseph to the tomb where they laid his body and where it was laid.. Then, (with no intervening time) they returned and prepared the spices and rested the sabbath day, and when the sabbath was past, they went back to the tomb.. This does not appear to leave time for another sabbath on Thursday. Each gospel then goes directly to the morning of the first day of the week .. .. Luke 23.55,56 *_None of the gospels say after they laid Jesus in the tomb, the women observed the sabbath and then prepared the spices, then observed another sabbath day_* Each one of the gospels say, 'It was the preparation day the day before the sabbath, and the sabbath day drew on' .. .. Thank you

      Johnathan Reid, The Gospels tells us that Jesus was crucified on a Friday,
      .The reason why John said that Sabbath was a high day, was because it was Passover week.
      If you read the gospels the week that Jesus was crucified, You will only find ONE Sabbath, The weekly Saturday Sabbath.
      The Gospels tells us that Jesus was crucified the day before the Sabbath and rose the day after the Sabbath day.

      @@dr.alanhales544 Well Jesus said as Jonas was in the belly of the fish 3 days and 3 nights so will the Son of Man be in the heart of the earth. Being crucified on Friday and being raised Sunday doesn’t equal 3 days and nights. Daniel even speaks of when Christ would be cruxified.
      “And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.”

    The lambs were NOT killed ON the day of Unleavened bread, but EATEN. They were killed at 3:00pm on the preparation day the 14 th of Nisan. Jesus ate the Lord;s supper in the late Evening of Tuesday 13th, afterwards he went to pray in the garden, he knew his time had come. While he was in the garden Judas came with the mob and thet took him, It was during his trial NOW at early morning (wednesday the 14th - of Nisan Preparation day)) that the scribes etc didn;t want to enter the palace (during his trial) and be defiled before the 1st Feast Day, the High day Sabbath. So did Jesus eat the Passover on the 13th, when the Passover was on Wednesday the 14th of Nisan. The Lambs were to be killed at 3:00 pm the same time Jesus died on the cross. Jesus WAS our PASSOVER LAMB! During the lord:s Last Supper he told Judus to go do what he must quickly. He was to Betray him!! Then the lengthy trial, then crucification 9:00 am , death at 3:00 pm and buried before 6:00 pm at evening toward the 15th day of the Feast of unleavened bread. Jesus stated he DESIRED to eat the passover with them. He knew he was to die as our passover lamb!!

    Dear bro in Christ, Jesus indeed died and was buried on Friday before sunset. We all know that the next day was a Sabbath. He was given a hasty burial, and the women were unable to pay their last respects, so they had to wait for the Sabbath and a night to pass and rushed to His grave at dawn. If He was buried on wednesday, and the next day was a High day, the women would have gone to His grave at the dawn of friday, which is not the case. So the three days and three nights is just an idiom or expression. The women prepared the spices which was already in their house or bought them after sunset of saturday. So Friday is day 1, Sabbath is day 2 and Sunday is day 3...

      The scriptures couldn't be more clear,
      The passion of Christ is part of the three days.
      {Matthew 17:22-23}
      (Not after the third day)
      For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, "The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and *after* that *he is killed* he shall rise the third day.”
      {Mark 9:31}
      --[Friday] known as preperation (for the sabbath) day (from evening to evening) starts with the last supper, followed by being delivered into the hands of men to be chastised and afflicted, after that he is killed.
      And now when the even was come, because it was *the preparation* that is, the day before the sabbath.
      {Mark 15:42}
      {John 19:14, 40-42}
      {Luke 24:55-56}
      Now upon *the first* day of the week, [Sunday] very *early in the morning* they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
      And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.
      {Luke 24:21}
      (Three days and three nights, for the day was reckoned from evening time.)

What does matter is that you receive Jesus into your heart for the forgiveness of your sins, and that you are washed clean in His blood. Exactly what I had come to believe, but thank you for the clearer explanations of the Holy Days. I also agree 3 days and 3 nights means 3 24hr periods, therefore we know Jesus died at 3pm which in my book puts him in the heart of the Earth at that time and starts the clock. (putting a dead body into a tomb doesn't put Jesus in the heart of the Earth, he was already there). This means the end of the 24hr 3rd day period ends Saturday day at 3pm. Jesus actually rose from the dead on, or toward the end of, the weekly Sabbath! And why not? He is Lord of the Sabbath and many times proved this during his earthly ministry. I think it is awesome. Remember, the tomb was DISCOVERED to be empty early Sunday morning, but the Bible never states when he actually returned back from the heart of the Earth, except for the sign of Jonah.

    But where is in 1 Corinthians 15:21-23 Jesus commands to celebrate His resurrection day and make it holy the way He commands to worship on Sabbath (Saturday) and to make it holy?

    We can assume Christ's body was placed in the tomb prior to sunset. He was risen prior to sunset. Therefore, on the Sabbath, before dark. Mary came in the morning of the first day of the week when he was already risen. We could more appropriately recognize His resurrection Sabbath evening and avoid the pagan "day of the sun." (Something think about)
