The festive atmosphere of the Chinese New Year has always been strong in my village. Since the first month of the lunar year began, we’ve been busy preparing for the upcoming new year: annual pig killing, doing Spring Festival shopping, ancestor worship, offering sacrifices to God of Mountains, and New Year’s Eve dinner… This year, I finally got some time to pound steamed glutinous rice to make rice cakes and shared some with other villagers. Some neighbours are home alone, so I either invited them to have dinner with us or sent some food they like to them when they refused because they’re too shy. Another fresh new year is here. I wish all of us a joyous, safe, happy and healthy year!

in small villages, this kind of thing is pretty common. when everyone knows everyone, they know everyones business, so they know who will be alone during holidays... i wonder if we can achieve this kind of thing in cities too by talking to our neighbors more.
I agree! The food looks beautiful and very delicious, and the decorations are so wonderful also. But the best part of the whole video is seeing how the sharing of food with everyone in the community is valued, to respect and care for all of their neighbors and extended family.
It used to be like that in our neighborhood but as the years went by, thabks to technology, people became less closer.
So PEACEFUL..Wish California was like that INSTEAD of so many shotting and killing.. So much VIOLENCE in this world..

真的很敦親睦鄰、好像我小時候在台灣的原住民部落一樣，媽媽用柴火蒸完了年糕、或廣東籍的爸爸做了臘肉曬了幾天的太陽後，總是送給阿姨或周邊要好的親朋好友分享。爸爸好客、朋友五湖四海、各階層都有，有時想安靜一點的過年都很難、他今年若還健在、應該是92歲了，好想念他做的飯菜～～謝謝滇西小哥的視頻、安慰自己想念親人的時光⋯⋯

Salute to all Moms, Aunties Sisters who prepare all food from scratch during these special occasions. Missed those days where my mom do this, she'll order most of the food and just prepare 3 or 4 dishes this day.

Your family is so generous to invite the other people who are alone to share a meal with you. I noticed to that when you bring a gift of the rice cakes to your neighbors, they always invite you to come and sit and have a cup of tea. That is just a lovely practice and so generous it seems like everyone takes care of each other.

I just found your channel and I think I’m already loving it, especially as someone who doesn’t know much about Yunnan despite my grandparents having been born there (they moved to Taiwan, and my dad then moved to America). In a way I feel like this is letting me connect to a part of my heritage that I was never able to truly grasp. Some things like the fish felt familiar but a lot of the things I’d never heard about! Plus the family bit made me miss when we did those for previous Lunar New Years, this year we didn’t do a big family gathering. Definitely subscribing to this channel!

@@eriaz5563 Lunar new year is celebrated by everyone in Asia, while chinese new year is celebrated by only chinese people. i hope this helps, it is also acceptable to wish people in asia or china either one, since most don't celebrate both anyway so regardless of how you greet someone it won't matter much as long as the person you greet is chinese, if they are japanese or korean then lunar new year would be the correct way :)
