Since so many people keep asking how Barty Crouch Sr. & Jr. have an Invisibility Cloak:
There are several Invisibility Cloaks in the Harry Potter universe, but only one is the master cloak, and that is one of the three Deathly Hallows. The others are knock-offs, inspired by the original cloak. The knock-offs are regular cloaks with Disillusionment Charms or other effects added to render them invisible, but after a certain amount of time, the cloak will lose its power. So they're temporary things. Like Ron said in the first movie, Invisibility Cloaks are really rare. Cloaks, plural. More than one. Harry's is the master Cloak, the Deathly Hallow, and will never lose its power. The ones certain wizards have (like Moody and Crouch Sr.) are high-quality knock-offs; they can go years without losing their power, but for those few years, they're just as good as the original Deathly Hallow. In fact, Moody has several, and loaned them out in the Order of the Phoenix book, although he complained that his best one was loaned out and the one he had left to use wasn't that great, meaning it lost a bit of its power.
As they're really rare and expensive, very few wizards owned them, such as Barty Crouch Sr. and Mad-Eye Moody. Crouch Sr. used his to disguise Barty Jr. and Barty Jr. either used that one once he was freed, or the one Moody had in its possession.

Comrade Stalin the thing is, Voldy wanted to return IN SECRET. Had Barty simply kidnapped Harry and ported him to where Voldemort was, Dumbledore would get suspicious and (Because he’s Albus fr*cking _Dumbledore_ ) figure out that Voldy was back. Voldemort wanted the element of surprise, so simply kidnapping Harry wouldn’t have worked. People could die in the Triwizard Tournament, meaning if Harry disappeared in one of those rounds, they’d just assume he’d met his demise.
The only reason Voldy’s plan was remotely unsuccessful was because Harry escaped, meaning he could warn Dumbledore
I just realized that barty crouch jr. Is the reason for the second wizarding war, his arrest made it so his father did not become minister for magic, which meant fugde did, and fudge's incompetence was what let voldy gain power again.

I always loved the fact that it was Barty Crouch Jr who influenced Harry’s (as well as Ron and Hermiones) idea to become an Auror. Like I really think he was being genuine when he complemented them about how good of an Auror they would be.

@@joshuaxd65 In the book, Cedric didnt do that. They were shocked to be somewhere else, thought it was part of the task and then took both their wands out. Pettigrew wasnt even visible. Harry only noticed somethng wrong when he saw the Gravestone that said "Tom Riddle" and a few seconds later Voldemort killed Cedric. Wormtail wasnt even known to be there until Harry was tied to the stone.

As a psychologist, I can't help but feel sorry for him. He became the only thing that his father would have paid attention to. By the time his father tried to make up, however sad the whole situation was, it was way too late. He had invested every ounce of motivation in the dark ways and did not know how to lead a different life. And the fact that his father tried to make up for it *while inflicting the imperius curse on him* didn't make it a worthwhile try either.

I feel sorry for you that you are not seeing how detrimental overt fandom can be.
I always thought Barty Crouch Jr became the very thing that took his father's attention away from him, so he could get attention! Also as revenge, to shame his father publicly. I get the feeling he didn't care everyone knew he was Voldemort's right hand man. I'd like to know how he and wormtail got along, in my mind they would be enemies, always wanting to be #1 in Voldermort's eyes! They always seemed to get along fine in the books / movies though. I also think Barty jr took umbrage (pardon the pun) at being named after his father, and would've prefered his own name & identity. A lot of things went wrong with Barty Juniors upbringing, but that doesn't excuse the fact he was an arse. He could've just been like percy, dedicated to the ministry, still an arse but not a deranged one at least!

I always felt like Barty Jr really was somewhat innocent at first. He was neglected and got mixed up with the wrong crowd. I believe that he had nothing to do with the crimes he was framed for. Once he was thrown into Azkaban by his father, he became completely loyal and dedicated to Voldemort. That was the impression I got.
He wasn't innocent ever. He's young, but has a clear love of the Dark arts and is very loyal to Voldemort who is literally the most evil wizard ever. He choose to be a death eater, that's why he's in the "wrong crowd" because they are all death eaters too. Bellatrix is the one who tortured Nevilles parents until they crack, but Barty goes along with and probably helps. He's not as crazy as Bellatrix but does want to find Voldemort so he goes along with it. Then he deliberately tries to play the sympathy card to get out of going to Azkaban, which is father sees right through. Because he knows worst case scenario it makes his father look really bad, which it does, which is why his father doesn't get the Minister job. It also causes his mom to save him.

The chapter Barty Crouch Junior died in was called The Parting of the Ways, and the episode Christopher Eccleston regenerated into Tennant was also called The Parting of the Ways.
Only that he did not die. He recieved a Dementor's kid, sucking his soul out, which is fate worse than death. You're alive, but you just are there without soul. However later on Barty Jr. died at about 1995-1996 tho this is not confirmed

Compared to any other death eater, Barty Crouch Jr. was the most effective. He did slip in the end and start to give himself away, but he had waited YEARS for the return of his master. When he saw Harry still alive, he saw it as an opportunity for revenge, he couldn’t help himself. If he hadn’t gotten his soul sucked out at the end, he would have gotten out of Azkaban in the course of the 7th book and accomplished so much more for the Dark Lord. I actually shutter to think!

Barty is actually my favorite character. The way he impersonated Moody is fantastic. He acts as a similar parental figure to Remus for Harry, but it's all part of his master plan. I actually kind of wish the real Mad-eye was more like him.

I think you give to much credit to Fudge. He was pretty much a headless chicken since the ending of Goblet of Fire.
Adam Markowski the only reason why fudge begins to lose power after GOF is the return of Voldemort and his need to deny that. He's a coward, but he's not stupid. He doesn't begin to make a fool of himself until he begins to go to extreme lengths to silence Dumbledore in the Order of the Phoenix. I don't think you give him enough credit to be perfectly honest, the man was the minister of magic. He also built his entire career on a tenuous post-war stability, the minute that was gone he was going to be out of a job which is why he spent so long trying to deny the existence of Voldemort. Between the events at the Quidditch World Cup and what he would have learned immediately following the Triwizard Tournament there would have been no doubt in his mind that Voldemort was back. The problem was though, admitting this meant he would certainly no longer be minister. I would say that the execution of Barty Crouch jr. Was the very beginning of the end for fudge because it marked the first extreme act he would have to commit in order to attempt to cover up the return of the dark lord.
So basically because his father did not pay attention to him as a kid, he was driven into the depths of insanity, fear, and madness that turned him evil? And instead of preventing his own blood from turning this way Barty Crotch was focused on other people? Well, they do say that those who let it get to them, think that going extreme is the only way. I should know I am also like that. Also is there something the Dr. Who actor can't do? Amazing actor.

I have the feeling that Barty Crouch jr. was indeed innocent at first but turned to Lord Voldemort because he hated his father for everything he had done to him.
He was only 17 years old when the trial happened, and he was genuinely terrified. He stayed a death eater after he got out of Azkaban due to the fact Azkaban brings out your worst memories, and his would've definitely been his father.

Can someone explain the reasoning for Barty Crouch Jnr's unwavering commitment to Voldemort. I understand he's aversion to sticking to ministry defined laws his own father obsessed over at the cost of his family involvement. I understand attraction to the pure blood agenda as a result of the socialisation within Slytherin.
I however don't understand why he so greatly attached to Voldemort and gave unwavering loyalty.
Probably because of how both of them are treated by their father.

Power and how they could relate
My theory is that when Barty Jr never got recognition from his father he turned to serving Voldemort and started seeing him as a replacement father and a better one who recognized his intelligence, espionage, cunning, dueling abilities and power
He felt Voldemort was relatable because he, too, had a desire to murder his own father to take back his own sense of empowerment.

Hey, just saying, about the tongue flick, there’s a possibility that it served as a hint to who Moody really was. In the lesson, “Moody” does a tongue flick right before drinking more poly juice. Later, you see the memory of Barty Crouch, and he does the tongue flick. It may have just been a little chance to figure it out before the reveal.

In one of her Pottermore writings (which I can't recommed enough) Rowling mentioned that potion's effect could last anywhere between 10 minutes and 12 hours, depending on how well it was prepared. Crouch Jr. was extremely talented and dedicated, despite his many obvious (mostly moral) shortcomings.
I was reading about this topic on Fandom but that is like reading parts of a giant almost never-ending puzzle. This sums it up quite good. Can't believe this so watered down in the movie to partly not at all in the movie...

Idk if this happened in the book (I haven't read them since December), but in the movies, when Barty is teaching the 3 unforgivable curses to his students, he brings Neville to the front to watch when he does the cruciatus curse on the spider. He even acknowledges that he knows that the kid is Neville Longbottom. IMO, he knew that Neville was traumatized by what he did to his parents via this curse and decided to have some "fun" with their son. I know that he needed a reason to give Neville the book to point Harry towards gillyweed, but he could've honestly just done that afterclass and mentioned prof. sprouts praises towards him as a reason for the gift.

odeplugged Any movie based off a book will just be too long if they included everything, not only limited to Harry Potter but across the board.
Plus they skipped the quidditch cup after all that build up! I got so mad!
It was unclear to me whether Fudge ordered the Dementor to Kiss Crouch or whether he lost control of it and Crouch was Kissed. Either way Dementors or dangerous. However if Crouch ordered the Kiss the Fudge executed Fudge without due process (no trial) so he committed a very serious crime.
If he lost control of the Dementor that brings his competence into question.
We now know that Barty Crouch Junior was actually a Ravenclaw.

So surprised Dumbledore didn't realize Mad-Eye was an imposter and Barty Sr was under the curse. They were constantly around him. The only con pulled on a bigger level was Snape fooling Voldy
