- Jeet Kune Do Sensei Togo Ichii takes on a Taido practitioner named Tetsuji Nakano. Let's watch and see what parallels I can see in Taido with Capoeira, and let's look at how Sensei Ichii uses his JKD to counter these unorthodox Taido strikes. Taido people, let us know what the names are called for these moves! Leave your comments and let us know what you saw, and make sure to go follow the channel below!

The specific video we commentated is in the description. More to come!
*I watched this video a good while back and it's awesome when Togo Ishi does these short sparring matches against different martial artists. He did one recently too and even starred in a Japanese movie where he uses JKD, called 1 percenter but you can probably find it online*
The Taido guy is Tetsuji Nakano, four consecutive Taido champion. Nakano is also woking as the director of an osteopathic clinic. the JKD Guy is Togo Ishii, he's student of Hiro Watanabe who claimed to have trained under Ted Wong.
A year or two ago I found some Taido videos with Nakano sensei in them, and I was hooked on Taido.
Here's his youtube channel:
www.youtube.com/@user-lf9rm3rj5z
And a massive playlist of videos he's in that I could find:
czcams.com/play/PLzIgrqXbB4Uv0qhMunWPPKTve99rxYrgJ.html
Claimed? There's literally videos of them training privately 😂
Never thought id ever see Marshal Law vs Reina Mishima irl
Reina goes hard but if they block that low spin kick the punish is always there and Kazuya just gonna hit you with lighting godfist 5x’s in a row.
😂
the taido guy is reina's mocap actor
Hahaha
Sammons reference?
Taido should be called Japoeira
😂
You win the Internet today!🤣🤣🤣
Or Japoneara😂😂
😂😂😂😂
Facts
Taido dude using a lot of energy. Not sure how long one would last throwing themselves all over the place and getting up off the floor like that.
that was for demonstration purposes. I imagine the correct way he would use it would be as an element of suprise. He could have sneaked some leg grabs our kicks at the opponent's ribs
Probably why he didnt throw tons of kicks. He looked controlled. Id imagine, or at least it looks like, hes sparred enough to at least know how to not gas himself super quick.
I was basically gonna make this exact comment. I do think the Taido guy would win in a real fight vs this JKD guy but I would think he'd have a rough time in any extended fight, I'm tired watching him! Also a lot of his moves rely on hands on the ground, wouldn't you hurt your palm real bad doing this?
@@airthrowDBT it won't. I'm a brazillian, judo and capoeira are common around where i live. In both i had the necessity of learning falls.
You will only scratch badly your palm if you do it wrong. It has to he fixed in a way that make it a support, It shouldn't slide off
@@The_true_Joe_mama Thank you, I didn't know you don't twist the palm on the ground. I know Capoeira is legit I just wondered about that part.
That footwork is smoooooth! Like it very much!

> Almost perfect pronunciation of capoeira terms in portuguese
> =0
My man, was not expecting for that, congrats from Brazil and from a Capoeirista. Not even counting the almost perfect subtitles.
At 02:25 Tetsuji does basically a Esquiva de Frente by putting his right hand and knee on the floor and his left leg stretched.
The best commentary yet man, great job!
Oh yeah! Esquiva! I'll have to add that term next time I analyze anything that looks like Capoeira!
@@FightCommentary If I can help somehow with that just let me know✓
What is a spin kick called in Capoeira? More specifically, an outside crescent kick.
@@FightCommentary This one? czcams.com/video/JO_DB2Fqls0/video.htmlsi=lkLW2rF1mrVT9vFK
If yes is called Meia-Lua de Frente (Frontal Half-Moon)
Got any capoeira clips of you training?
Wow, expertly done by both gentlemen! JKD guy looked great, and the only way to stop the Taido guy was to stuff him or cut off his movements because he was so fast, fluid and unorthodox! JKD fighter had great footwork, stable stance, and great hand dexterity whereas the Taido practitioner was constantly evading, entering and exiting while striking, and level changing for insane illusiveness and angling for strikes
The JKD guy trained under Ted Wong and Hiro Watanabe, you should see his master Hiro Watanbe, he's in his mid 60s but is so fast and strong. There are a few videos on his 1inch channel which are subtitled in English and he explains some theories and shows some moves, the guy is a beast!
Taido feels like a truly unique style that justifies it's specificity in training, like a lot of traditional pracices are like archaic arts that do the same thing combat sports do just to a lesser intesity/quality...while Taido is exactly what it is 🤷♂️
I feel Taido is one underrated style like Savate.
Capoeira Vs Taido would go hard
That Taido guy collabed with japanese capoeristas on Capoeira Tempo's channel
That would be 🔥

@@clevelandtaylor6618 it's in japanese, so you have to search on youtube 躰道VSカポエイラ
This fight was awesome, it's not everyday you see legit martial arts matches thats not typical MMA.
That’s because many of these fun advanced techniques will not work against the basics in MMA.
@@inigomontoya8943 I agree, that is why it's refreshing to see something like this.
Awesome commentary! Thankyou Jerry!
Glad you enjoyed it
I actual love Sensei Togo Ichii's channel and material; I've been a fan for a while! Glad to see him one this channel too:)
Great vids, keep up the great commentary and work
Both these guys have some great footwork.
I'm not big into sports martial arts, but I got hooked on this after accidentally clicking on it. Nicely done.
That was awesome to see.
That was awesome to watch the guy move around like that. Energetic.
I am the guy that sent you the links of the Aikidoka sparring. That guy is part of a group of Japanese martial artists that collaborate on youtube. The Aikido guy has sparred the Taido guy and done videos with tbe JKD guy.
There is also a Japanese former UFC fighter, a couple full contact karate guys, a koryu practitioner, a Systema fuy wirh a brown belt in BJJ, and a couple ninjas. They very recently had a large full contact tournament that most of the group competed in.
Af one point or another they have all had matches of various degrees of contact with each other.
If you are in contact with Nakano senei or Mr Ishi they can probably help you get with the eest of the group to get permissions to feature their videos.
Are you talking about kuro-obi world?
@@o0...957 no, though there has been some cross over with them as well.
"large full contact tournament"
very cool, any place we can find footage of this?
@@o0...957 kuro-obi world had some collabs with Hiro Watanabe (Togo's master) and Togo, but they're separate as Aikibiker said. I love those guy's channel, especially when Hiro Watanabe shows some of the moves. The guy's a true master!
@@driver3899 this channel seems to have most of the fights.
czcams.com/video/xxDHAJ1VQ0g/video.htmlsi=6zA9p_b6QpFT1NBb
Great footwork by them, which helps keep them dynamic whether in drills or spars, it shows that they know what they're doing whether it's a controlled exchange like this or when it's with actual hard contact. Being too flat footed or linear is a no-no when it's the actual thing.
Jkd mistake is he didn’t look at the tekken 8 chart. He needs to sidestep left
Wow. Both are quite good! Excellent showcase of Taido, never heard of this style
Very cool actually, I would have loved to see them actually fight
Togo never fights unfortunately as he does these 1 min short sparring sessions with no mouthpiece or gloves, just to show the footwork and how the moves would look like in reality. The best sparring he did is in his last video from 2 days ago if you watch it against a Karate guy as there's a bit more contact there with JKD stop kicks and some soft punches but fast.
I've look up on Togo Ishii, he trains under Hiro Watanabe, and Hiro Watanabe trains with Ted Wong. There is also other JKD masters in Japan, but I only know another one, Yori Nakamura who is under Dan Inosanto in JKD concepts, Kali, and Silat.
Yeah, Hiro is a beast, I love that guy's teaching videos where he shows the details behind the JKD attacks.
Excellent control by both fighters very impressive
I believe I saw a video where a Taido practitioner knocked down famed Kyokushin practitioner Shokei Matsui. Matsui was an extremely proud old-school Japanese warrior and he was FURIOUS that a nobody knocked him down.
Please show us! Sounds like an amazing video to feature!
The Taido's black belt has had it's black fade mainly away. It's pretty much a white belt now!!!
That’s was good exchange. Controlled light contact has it place. Both have good movement quick movement. Light on their feet.
Wow there both really good. Fantastic. Well balanced. Strong. Fast. Accurate.
They where like "Jerry what are you gonna say!?" LMAO. Taido looks neat though, i would love to see the Korean version and also learn more about their history? The Why.
What were the contact rules? Nothing to the head, light everywhere else? Hard to see how taido works without that head contact.
Very interesting. Would love to see how Taido stacks up against styles with low kicks. The positive I think it is really cool and looks amazing. On the negative I do not think it is practical and won't stack up in the combat sports arena but would do well against traditional styles with a linear approach to sparring. Looks like you gotta be very fit and supple to do this art. Looks awesome.
Taido practitioner slowed down a bit later in the match. You got to watch that cardio.
The taido guy is already readable in attacks. If you noticed, the amount of times he used his kicks got reduced when he learned he got figured out.
As Brazilian you got the technics accent on point
They both look quite skilled. Good JKD looks good, despite it not always having the best reputation. Taido seems cool, fighter seems athletic and moves nice.
The taido guy is the motion capture model for reina from tekken 8
I always thought Taido was just from the Palladium RPG “Ninjas and Superspys.” I weirdly learned a lot about various martial arts from that game back in the 80’s
Cool
Taido mans stepping isamazing . Some of those tumbling moves, if used at the right time could be effective. He stayed in a low stance too. It makes my point. The modern martial artist doesnt replace the traditional stepping with a boxers footwork because it's better. He does it because it's easier.Bruce Lee said their taking the stairs, I'm taking the elevator. Without realizing, the stairs make your legs stronger.
I do enjoy how controlled this match is. The taido is very impressive and hard to defend. Maybe capoeira can adapt some taido aspects with the pivot on the knee for faster rotation, either way very cool to see some pressure testing
Dope
Please cover taekkyon!
"meia lua de compasso" Nice pronunciation! Congratulations!
IRL Reina vs. Law lmaooo 🤣🤣🤣
Have you ever heard of Engolo?
It's the ancestor art of capoeria and is still practiced in some African countries. It's essentially full contact, less dance like, capoeira. Really cool stuff. They spar bare knuckle.
Is this from Kuro Obi world? Lotsa of material on Taido and Bajiquan
About 2:10 we first think the guy in black hit first, right? Then you watch in slow motion and see that the guy in white in fact "hit" first in direction of eyes. And his kicks in "weird" angles are interesting to see.
I want to learn Jeet kune do I hope im not too old 😮
that was legit JKD. also this is the first time ive heard of Taido.
So we have Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Japanese Capoeira?
Seems a Light Sparring I want see Taido in a Full contact Match I don't think Taido work in a Pro fight.
Taldo would've been a good opponent in one of the Game of Death movie's pagoda levels!
So true!
man that stance would take a toll on my stamina
The taido flying 360 hook kick looks like mine and my namesakes for that matter. Not gonna get into history because I'll get taken to school here but I always thought the early hooks Huey and Naruto did were from old Korean martial arts but it has to be more Taito now I consider the knife hands.
Taido guy stamina is RIDICULOUS!
I'm not convinced that Taido works. They're going lightly here.
it seemed good for kicking at the ribs
More Ishii Togo videos man
JKD should be using the lead/strong right hand to stop hit or jab. He should draw his opponent in and then hit him with a front leg side kick to the midsection.
Can u make a vdo in southern dragon kungfu
Took Taido for a year in college. Was it effective in a "real" fight? Doubtful. But my cardio was freaking amazing. More fun way to burn my freshman 15 than jogging and a fun group to train with.
bruh which martial art do u know know the moves of my g
Perfect counter= well timed stomp
Taido here looks wonderful, beautiful but still practical. Dude controls the distance well and while the economy of movement is always the largest flaw in capoeira, taido or northern styles of kung fu- dude here stays relaxed and doesn't seem to be tiring at all, trying to find a good position to strike. And JKD guy is probably one of the best I've seen, mostly JKD guys are semi obese clowns arguing constantly about some meaningless details and lineages.
It looks like the JDK guy figured out the Taido guy's moves and timing. He's kinda parrying and trapping a little bit and blocking the spin kicks.
Taido’s beauty goes away once they are in a match 😂😂
still looks majestic to me, even at the end
Taido looks cool !
cool
1:13 this is what I was just thinking, that's an interesting style but he better have some grappling. Because he could easily wind up with a guy on top of him.
And I wonder if JKD guy has any grappling or wrestling, a lot of JKD people think you should never go to the ground, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't know how to just in case
I'd like to see him fight Xu Xiaodong..
Es un paso doble.
I would love to spar with other martial arts styles especially in Japan
Isn't Taido the sport that has the 5 vs 1 tournament event?
Tell me more!
Kuro Obi?
JKD guy is Quite good, does a channel on CZcams and is looking sharp in the new Movie, 1% Warrior. ......As the Villain.
Togo's teacher is the best JKD guy I have ever seen. Legit looks more skilled and a bigger repertoire than Bruce Lee.
Got any links for me to look at?
@@FightCommentary czcams.com/video/LGeW_ht8Cd8/video.htmlsi=4YfGk0i95iLxxPzZ
Can Jeet kun do beat any style ?
JKD man has some good quality movement….however he misses one thing…to move with a purpose
A fight requires two people to touch each other. This was just two dudes dancing
It's a very interesting match if you see it only as a hobby because i don't think that they could use any of these teqhniques in a real fight!
He would probably het a nasty reality check from a trained fighter 🙃
If JKD guy smothers that guy more it's gonna end up on the ground, but you might get hit on the way in. This guy's a problem if you're not a grappler. Personally I'd throw front kicks witch is awkward in a side stance.
Jkd need to let him hit trap go into aikido lock or submission
I'm not a huge fan of putting myself on the ground and throwing kicks upwards. You might catch your opponent with the first one or two, but once he sees your trick, you won't have much success with it afterwards.
I really enjoy your experience and expertise. As well as your videos.
I must say the fact is none of this will ever be true.
The JKD proves his master of craft as he avoids any impact while still standing.
Taido goes to the ground, that's only working on a mat not in real life.
Do a video with one of these guys coming up to me in a bar, and realize they wouldn't get the distance back, as they were standing next to me when the fight begins.
Being within closer distance is our advantage as JKD. We completely can control how much damage is done.
JKD isn't for sparring. I'm not directly from Bruce Lee, thank you Ssgt Bhottorf SF/1st Ranger battalion for helping a Jewish kid in Florida join the US army 🪖.
These look like dudes who would get taken down by a wrestler and get Boston crabbed 😂
Taido guy kept changimg stances which I think was throughing off tje JKD guy a bit
These guys should go into ballroom dancing. They're kicking in mid sir, wasting energy and calories with no contact or benefit. Just WTF?
Taido looks like Reina (from Tekken 8) style
This guy is literally the motion capture model for reina
@@notuxnobux wow
Jkd is suppose to be a concept not a fight like bruce lee style
touch and can't be touched
Judo Karate Aikido 😊😊😊 yeah baby Aikido is awesome Japanese martial art just as well as Judo karate
Japoeira!
The JKD guy was not doing anything
No wonder he looked smooth lol
That's a lot of space for a fight. Too many movements as well. Fatigue will kill them both. But hey, this is entertaining. 👏
This is as relevant to fighting as breakdancing vs ballet.
Nerd.
Looks like two 5th graders fighting on the playground 😂😂😂
I admire Nakano 👍
This taido resembles capoeira.
