- Let’s face it - sometimes history can get in the way of a good movie. And while we don’t fault these films for playing it loose with the facts, sometimes those overlooked details have major historical implications.

Seriously, you are saying a Wonder Woman movie was not accurate? Next you are going to tell me that Fred Flintstone didn't eat dinosaur ribs.
You can tell Ranker influenced this video
He didn’t. . .?
There were no cameras and film doesn't last that long if there were. So we can't be sure.
Just remember the wise words of Abraham Lincoln, you can't believe everything you see or hear on the internet.
🤣🤣🤣
Napoleon’s recent movie should have been set with aliens attacking, it would have been better and as close historically as that piece of crap.
The end of the Sound of Music was always funny to me cuz they're just "walking over some mountains" with zero backpacks, provisions, tools for building shelter, etc.
Every time I see some goofball in flip-flops carrying only a cell phone on a rigorous and remote hiking trail it reminds me of this scene in The Sound of Music. Of course, the Von Trapps could have their pockets stuffed with wienerschnitzel and bier, who knows?
In fairness, not too 4:52 many people watch movies for this historic accuracy.
like the netflix rag..."When they see us". Worthless propaganda piece of doodoo. Freedom for gang rapists? Pathetic movie.
The central park 5 + the older man raped that woman.
Criminals!!!
4:16 I assume that the swastika is blurred because CZcams doesn't like histotrical accuracy.
was it over when Germany bombed Pearl Harbor? --Senator Blutarsky
@@sativagirl1885 Hell no!
Yeah that maybe the case among other issues like the War in Israel happening along with people and groups against the Jews now on the rise.
Not just the swastika, the SS flag too. People might get triggered from history. SMH. Soon they have to blur the infamous Austrian altogether. We should just erase all that history....so we won't repeat it, right? No, that's not how it goes.
@@sativagirl1885 😂
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter had Joshua Speed die decades before he died in real life. And I had to explain repeatedly to my aunt that he was a real person and the movie was not accurate.
I had to explain that Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter was inaccurate.
In real life he didn't kill as many Vampires as the movie had portrayed
@@brianew😂😂☠️☠️
Next you are going to tell me Pride, Prejudice, and Zombies isn't historically accurate.
@@taoofjester4113 Probably the most historically accurate Zombie movie ever made.
the book, though not without flaws, was way more accurate to actual events.
When I saw Braveheart come up, was I the only one thinking that kilts were hundreds of years too early as the topic?
Braveheart have so many anachronism, it would be a video of it's own.. Oh wait. History Buffs did it! And it's hilariously good!
And in Braveheart, there's a glaring error the story itself shows you. At the Battle of Stirling Bridge, keen moviegoers may have noticed something missing.
THE BRIDGE.
Leading to everyone’s favourite quote, Gibson was asked by a Scottish journalist why the bridge was missing, Gibson replied that it got in the way. “Aye, the English found that as well.” The journalist replied.
Another thing about Braveheart was Wallice was not a poor farmer but a rich landowner.
Hollywood is not 100% accurate?
Wow! Mind blown 😲
Yes it really blew our minds here.
😂
We went from the original narrator that sounded like Colbert to a T.j. miller knock off.
Where is the original I need him to relax 🥹
The - the "Thugs" from Temple of Doom, they were the "Thuggee". I think that may be a spellcheck victim though.
Wrong narrator voice....
"Wrong kid died."
Ahhh nothing is starting to piss me off more than clicking on a video and hearing this guys voice!
Yea, this narrator has the perfect voice for silent movies.
What do you mean that guy wearing the watch in Braveheart was a TIME TRAVLER
Shhhh! Disney might use that in a movie. Ogh too late (RIP Indiana Jones).
Wait… is that Michael Swaim?
This sure sounds like a Cracked article.
The majority of these movies were not supposed to be historically accurate.
A shorter list would be, movies that got history correct. Zero movies got it right.
Not many, but definitely not 0. Schindler's List, Dunkirk, The Darkest Hour, Hotel Rwanda, some of my favourites
There were some that got it close to right. Midway, Tora Tora Tora, A New Hope... 😁
@@Backroad_Junkie Midway is an exceptional movie and quite historically accurate
@@ismarwinkelman5648agreed. Outstanding film. And doesn't get mentioned nearly enough these days, in my opinion.
Best line in U-571: “Tank shoot now or we die!!” Harvey Keitel was absolutely perfect as the COB, I love that movie (historical accuracy be damned).
You needed to add both Young Guns movies.
Escaping the Nazis by going to Italy of all countries would have been monumentally stupid.
I miss the old narator voice
I was shocked and sad lol. I can't follow the narration now.
I would really like a part 2.
The fact that Wonder Woman in World War 1 was bright up has me wondering if the Nazis actually had a subsect of Hydra similar to Captain America: The First Avenger.
They did the same thing with Argo as they did with U-571. USA took most of the credit, pushing the Canadian effort lower. When in fact even the President of the USA at the time admitted it was inaccurate and the Canadians did 99% of it and the USA played a very minor role....but USA is famous for revisionist history.
Amen to this one!!
Historically, every country (especially the winners) is famous for revisionist history.
Wait--you mean Wonder Woman swording that dude was historically inaccurate?! :O
They are called STORIES for a reason and not documentaries
No offense but where is the other narrator? Just funny getting used to him
He was at your mom's house. Ended up getting VD and had to sit this one out.
This narrator is getting better with each video! I'm enjoying his personality starting to come through even more!
The movie U-571 heavily borrowed from the real story of the American capture of U-505. Which is still held at the museum in Chicago.
I know it doesn't fit here but "The Boy in the Plastic Bubble" bothers me. Josh was in the same room as David was about a year after him for his Bone Marrow Transplant. We were about the 5th family to go through the treatment for Severe Combined Deficiency at Texas Children's.
A+ video!
Awesome films!
I'm glad they mentioned the Sound of Music.
U-571 alway got me where everyone's shooting in basically a large steel bell underwater, yet no one even shakes their head or grabs an ear after all that noise.
Also hate to point out that 300 was based on a Frank Millar comic book, it was never meant to be historically accurate, it was meant to be accurate to the comic book and it bloody nailed it
Indiana Jones movies also suffered from incorrect use of German military equipment. There was use of MP40's as early as 1936 (and they would of been MP38) and even then they were not in widespread use until about 1941. Indy also wielded what was best described a a Panzerfaust in Raiders, and they were not widely available until late in the war.
“Not since Star Wars have so many plot points been identified only by letters and numbers”
I see, as opposed to telekinetic thought and interpretive dance? All language is, is letters and numbers.
As opposed to words.
@@ducatisti that’s what words are
@@slaytanicsabbath Letters can be combined to make words, but some are used singularly as phonemes like I and A. Letters are also used to represent numbers (plan A, plan B), or even represent shapes (I beams, Z flashing, etc). They can, of course, also be used to form acronyms.
Letters are the building blocks, words are one of the things built with them.
I fault some of them for their historical inaccuracies. It really depends on how much they’re trying to present themselves as being historical vs just being entertainment that’s set in the past.
I wonder if someone did a movie about a USA victory but gave credit in the movie to another country how it would go down? I'm just saying if the shoe was on the other foot the outcry would resemble an orchestra of scorched cats.
guys go see old videos to hear the original narrator, he was gold. No hate at the new one, but it was superb
Don't ever go to feature films for historical accuracy!!! They want to sell a product! At all costs! Accuracy included. Great video. Thank you for your work.
Walking Phoenix? Speaking of inaccuracies
I am not Neil , I am a roommate .
The seventh Earl of Sutherland's wife descends from William Wallace the 10 Countess of Sutherland's husband Adam Gordon descends from Isabel of France there are legitimate ancestors today .
The Mummy, Lord Of War, Blood Diamond, Goodfellas and Blow could all have been on this list
To be fair, the Mummy wasn't trying to be historical, it just took place in the 20's for aesthetics I think, and an action movie.
@history_loves_anime8927 good point
Is that Michael Swaim I hear?!?!
The most inaccurate thing in Sound of Music is the claim that Schnitzel would be eaten with noodles. They wanted it to rhyme with Strudel, but honestly, the mere idea of that combination makes me nauseous. You eat Schnitzel with rice or side salad. Even fries are acceptable. But NOT noodles.
1:01 Matthew McConaughey is one of my favorite actors.
One of my favorite films of his is Frailty.
"NO TICKET!!"
The actual U-Boat is in the chicago at the Museum of Science and Industry.
Mythical Ark of the Covenant?
Biblical Ark of the Covenant.
11:58 what do I think? That you are the type of guy who would tell a child that Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny doesn’t exist!
I think I saw this video in theaters.
I'd love a correction on Indigenous history in North America. We are always shown as simple cavemen.
We had governments' vast trading systems.
Also, there are no Indian princesses that's a invented idea.
Napoleon was pretty bad as well😅
Good listing!! Should have included "Overlord" - possibly the most accurate depiction of the Normandy Invasion.
Really good video here never thought about that till now.
It is weird to include fantasy movies like 300 (based on a comic book) and Wonder Woman. The 300 Spartan thing is a myth that most do believe. The Spartans were the plurality and not the majority that volunteered to stay behind. The remainder, about 700 (you got correct) were from various city-states near the location of the battle. You seem to suggest the 700 was from one city-state. That is definitely not correct. Ironic. Anyway, what the Spartans should be credited with was staying behind even though it would have been prudent to retreat with the other city-states. Sparta was a long way away.
6:35 Speaking of crocs...I watched Crocodile Dundee again yesterday.
Such a great film!
They're not wrong depictions of history, they just haven't changed the history books yet
i saw somewhere that the pyramids (egypt) could possibly be older than what they are dated now. something about water erosion on them that could've happen during the ice age so maybe 10000 BC was kinda accurate lol.
*"Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl"* is so incredibly true to historical events it almost seems like you are watching a documentary 😂🤣
9:49 That style of camera was widely used in the 80s.
Abby Miller, from the YT channel Our 80s Life, had one like that.
These Movies that potray historical events are Historical themselves
6:29 For starters they left in a fucking car. There's no part of the film that suggests they walked entirely from Austria to Switzerland.
The ark of the covenant was almost certainly not mythical, as it was essentially a portable altar used by the ancient Hebrews for ritual sacrifice.
Now the lightning/fire storm and ghostly angels/demons who make heads explode and faces melt….yeah those would be mythical.
And everything Marcus Brody said about the Ark was rubbish. The Bible DOESNT mention it leveling mountains or laying waste to entire cities.
Plus you would have to be a Levite to touch it and live.
Trey the explainer has an AMAZING three part series on the 10,000 BC inaccuracies for further details!
I wrote a screenplay while I was on a drinking bender that was inspired by a true story:
The inspiration was from the Canadian infantry who made the Germans shake in their boots WW1, the trenches were what I focused on. So the story went on to talk about a kid from Winnipeg who was digging a hole and a kid from Steinbach, Manitoba wanted to know why the other was digging a hole. In the end, the Winnipeg kid had a dog that buried a toy ball and was looking for it. The Steinbach kid never actually had anymore cinema time.
It was inspired by a true story though.
I wonder if the narrator notices the lack of views when he's not there. I get it, everybody needs a break, time off etc. But these other people don't have the zing, the pow that I love from the original guy
And yet the channel continues to make videos regardless of your opinion.
Same.
@@jenniferlonnes7420videos with considerable less views. You butt hurt?
I'm not watching these for a special narrator. I'm watching for the history.
Thanks for your video! 🔀 Indeed, if y'all wanna learn... let movies inspire you to read historical accounts of whatever events you're curious about.
3:02 In reference to the family name of Snyder, my family lived on Snyder Street the entire time I went to public school.
We were the only house on the street.
Sound of Music- Nothing in that movie is accurate except the two parents’ names.
They changed-
The number of kids
The ages of the kids
The names of the kids
The fact that Maria was actually the mother of the youngest 3.
The personality of the father- He wasn’t stern.
The personality of Maria- she was stern.
The reason they left.
How the left.
Where they went.
On and on
Granted they aren’t accurate but I’ve seen them that it gets people interested in history
6:47 The U.S. needs trains stations like that!
I look forward to when there is more assessibility and affordability to the train system in the country.
Another one they left out on Braveheart: for the battle of Stirling Bridge, there was no bridge.
the Spartans were Greeks you meant the Athenians
Wait. Did this channel change?
Whoa, hold up, wait! This is not THE TRUE VOICE of Weird History! WTF?
So you're saying Indiana Jones never meet Adolf Hitler and got a book signed by him?
If you want to watch historical accurate movies then watch a documentary instead.
- Some director I forgot
Sometimes documentaries aren't accurate, either.
Bon Jovi has always lived on a prayer and at this point im not sure if i should give him props or despise him.
I still like Raiders of The Lost Ark .😀👍
where is the channel narrator????
People go on about the plot inaccuracies in Braveheart, or there was no bridge at the battle of Stirling bridge, or it’s set in 1280 when Alexander III was still alive. Worse than all of those for me, WILLIAM WALLACE ISN’T BRAVEHEART. Robert the Bruce is Braveheart.
I am going to watch the videos:
x Characters In War Movies You Didn’t Know Were Based On Real People (1st Recommendation, second time watching
x Everything Michael Bay’s Pearl Harbor Got Wrong (2nd Recommednation, second time watching)
x Cool Behind the Scenes Photos Of Alfred Hitchcock | Shots
x The Insane Story Behind the Movie "Roar"
x True Story Behind Killers of the Flower Moon
GOOD TO HEAR YA, MICHAEL!! 🤘😎
Thugees not Thugs, the word Thugs was derived from Thugees and you are correct they were more like Pirates without the ships!
8:20 The comic book character of Wonder Woman is widely considered to be based of the ENFJ personality type.
Maybe I’m wrong but I thought a couple of Polish resistance fighters got the enigma machine and they turned it over to England.
So, Pirates of the Caribbean was the closest to historical accuracy 🥹
The Indian killer group were called the Thugee but it was pronounced Tugee and worse one was Behram and over 50 years he murdered 969 people becoming the worst serial killer in the world
Stewart Lee explains the age issue in Braveheart much more... colourfully
The channel History Buffs said for the relationship to be real Wallace would have to be a teleporting pedophile. (Isabella was 10 when Wallace died)
Yes, I'm always disappointed when a history film is not historically accurate. But as you implied, real life is not as exciting as fiction. So, because of movies some of us got cheated on high school history tests -- sort of cheated ourselves. Darn Hollyweird.
This guy again
Next you'll be telling us that Chitty Chitty Bang Bang didn't actually fly like in the movie. ;)
You know what really gets history wrong? The use of "BCE" to describe dates.... the Gregorian calendar went into effect in 1582 AD and was developed by the Catholic Church, commissioned by Pope Gregory.. So you may want to honor history by understanding that it was the Christians that perfected our modern calendar following the Romans... Just a thought if you're going to judge others.
Kind of amused at how many historical inaccuracies there are in this video pointingout the inaccuracies of movies.
Pearl Arbor, The Patriot (any historical mel gibson movie , actually), i can name a few..
Oh yeah saw through Pearl Harbor in theaters actually and also both are really historically inaccurate and also a song about that Pearl Harbor movie sucking rings true from Team America World Police surprising I managed to survive it.
"U-571" is not a documentary-- it's a movie, a wonderful fictional drama wrapped around an actual event.
What about Mel Brooks' History of the World?
7:29 Speaking of The Joker...I watched the film Batman (1989) again yesterday!
Such an amazing film!
Who is your favorite Batman? Mine is Christian bale.
@@sarahkatie7497 I like all the Batmans that I have seen!
Give Braveheart a break. It was based more on a poem, than historical fact.
I spy some ancient Egypt denying. But then again, Weird History loves to play it sheepish with the masses lol.
