Great content properly explained.. Totally agreed.. most of the companies still not realising expected ROE..the cost factor..still the cloud presence is compelling because of services like CDN and of course flexibility.. Public Cloud continues to be the go to for small startups.. But large companies have a vision of building and operating their Private Cloud to have a tight control..May be we are in a crucial transformation phase..

Very interesting view, take note there is also such a thing as self-managed hosting, benefits of cloud without the overhead of managed services. Companies can keep their in house IT team and just move the hardware to a remote location.

I started my career in IT from 2003, started working on windows server from 2005 to till. working on azure IAAS.
The simplest word to understand the lack f security in cloud - "Cloud is nothing new but it is someone else computer"
If someone tell there is a security - it is like you are buying the security from a person who is having control on your security,
It is always best to move in hybrid way. if cost is not an issue - then perfect is on-premise .

The security services offered on Cloud is a no brainer compared to that of on-premise. But the concern is to get the right people to manage them. If you see the threats possesed its more of improper management of the Cloud services. So getting the right people to implement security is the key here.

Thorough Cloud Assessment: Before moving workloads to the cloud, conduct a comprehensive assessment of your applications, data, and infrastructure. Identify which workloads are suitable for the cloud and which ones may be better off remaining on-premises. This evaluation should consider factors such as security requirements, data sensitivity, regulatory compliance, and performance expectations.
Right Cloud Provider and Services: Choose a cloud provider that aligns with your organization's needs and objectives. Different providers offer various services and features, so consider those that fit your workload requirements, pricing models, security standards, and data residency policies.
Cost Optimization: Cloud costs can quickly escalate if not managed efficiently. Implement cost optimization practices such as rightsizing instances, using reserved instances or spot instances, and regularly reviewing your resource utilization. Continuously monitor your cloud spending and make adjustments as needed to avoid unexpected expenses.
Data Security and Compliance: Security and compliance are crucial considerations when using the cloud. Ensure your cloud provider adheres to relevant security standards and certifications. Implement robust security measures like encryption, access controls, and security audits. Comply with industry regulations and data protection laws specific to your organization's jurisdiction.
Performance Management: Monitor the performance of your applications and services in the cloud. Address any performance bottlenecks promptly and consider using content delivery networks (CDNs) or edge computing to optimize performance for users in different regions.
Hybrid or Multi-Cloud Approach: Rather than going all-in with a single cloud provider, consider a hybrid or multi-cloud strategy. This approach allows you to distribute workloads across multiple cloud providers or keep some critical applications on-premises, providing more flexibility and resilience.
Backup and Disaster Recovery: Implement a robust backup and disaster recovery strategy. Cloud providers usually have built-in tools for backup and recovery, but you should also consider additional backup solutions and replication to avoid data loss and ensure business continuity.
Continuous Monitoring and Governance: Regularly monitor and analyze your cloud infrastructure to detect any potential issues or deviations from best practices. Establish governance policies to enforce compliance, resource allocation, and security measures across your cloud environment.
Cloud Training and Expertise: Invest in training your IT staff and developers to gain the necessary skills and expertise to effectively manage cloud resources. Cloud technology is constantly evolving, and having a knowledgeable team can help you make informed decisions and avoid common pitfalls.

On-Premises will need to have point solutions for every stuff which makes it very complex to manage (seen it closely). It makes sense for banking firms. For me AWS and Azure is a no-brainer and things will mostly move to public cloud unless really latency sensitive workloads. Moving back to On-premises from Cloud is a nightmare to manage unless real cost savings vs native services in AWS/Azure. Yes for now the cloud migration move is bit cold, but repatriation is only for few customers but cloud migration everyday happening for so many customers

nothing wrong with cloud technology. I was in the middle of it doing real CD/CI in a private (+satellites) cloud in an all VM clustered environment - 1982. Whats wrong with cloud tech today is the greed we studied taking place after the civil war in the usa is alive and well fostered by USA corporate ghereed and global corps together forming an alliance detremental to the indegenous workforce in this country, not to mention the escalation of cyber threats (successful) in this county? Oh, and we haven't even spoken of business intelligence.
