Create Easy Matte Paintings in After Effects | Live VFX Presentation

  • From the live VFX presentation 'Cleaning Up The Streets' on 4/11/24 at Liminal Space in Cleveland. Brandon will walk you through the process of creating a matte painting or set extension inside of After Effects.

    We will first create a clean plate by painting out the road closure in Adobe Photoshop using Generative Fill.
    Next we will track the camera movement with Mocha AE (the free version of Mocha inside of After Effects).
    After applying that movement to the plate we will look at some of the newest rotoscoping tools powered by machine learning: Rotobrush 3 (bundled inside of After Effects) as well as Mask Prompter (a third party tool available here: aescripts.com/mask-prompter/)
    Finally, Brandon will show some of the before & afters from '211.' 211 is a short film shot during the 'Show Me What You Got' Crew and Gear expo at Liminal Space in November 2023.
