The first thing that Jerry does upon meeting Jean Paul is immediately remind him about his failure at the Olympics. Very consistent with his character profile
Jerry can be so dismissive of his friends but becomes obsessed with making sure a complete stranger gets to a race on time.
He does also go above and beyond to make sure he gets to the race on time, which is out of character.
