I remember watching him every night, damn I had my own chalk board and yep, I did the same thing trying to be like Mr. Bowtie....lol, sad part was he could give you a weather forecast for the week and unlike today's weather people despite all they're fancy equipment they can't get morning to afternoon right yet Percy was spot on for the whole week. Please note temps were marked in Fahrenheit not Celsius. Lastly you know what he never missed catching the chalk in the end, miss you Percy RIP

Percy Saltzman was not only a part of the CBC's Golden Age of Television but a part of ever so many Canadian lives who today look back and with nostalgia and fond memories remember him.

Man he was so fun to watch! I made a big deal of seeing him when I was a kid on the train from downtown to Pierrefonds , he and I just gabbed about the weather and systems he just gave me the bug! When he gave me my very own chalk he made the whole car laugh he made such a presentation. Thanks for putting these vids on here

Fantastic. I wish they brought weather to life like that today. With all the technology and algorithms doing much of the forecasting I don't think the individual meteorologists can internalize the systems as you could see Percy did. I want that kink of forecasting back.

To each her/his own, I much prefer accuracy over entertainment when it comes to weather forecasting. His bold chalk work may be entertaining but it's unlikely that it had much to do with what was actually going on.

In the U.S. our TV weather people always said every instance of cold or snow is coming "out of Canada." It is fitting that he shows things coming out of the U.S.

Here in Vancouver, we had meteorologist Bob Fortune who also used the chalk board. I remember him drawing storms and describing the weather in his mellow voice. In those days, before satellite, Canada had a weather ship that spent most of it's time about 600 miles off Vancouver island observing the weather that was invariably going to be Vancouver's weather a couple of days later.

😃😃Mr. Saltzman, a staple of my youth. He could (and did) write equally well with either hand. And, quite honestly, I found his dynamic presentations a heck of a lot more informative than what we have now. When he did violent little circles boy - was weather on the way! Bless your memory, sir. 😃😃

Imagine the work that went behind to understand all this weather patterns and accurately draw them live on the map.
I guess with todays technology, I don't think we need to do that much of work(although I'm not a weatherman so I probably can't appreciate the work that goes behind being one).
