  • What I learned Airbrushing for the 1st time.
    Its definitely not as easy as I thought it would be.
    Very easy to clog the tip.
    Takes some effort to get the paint mixed just right.
    And that just scratches the surface!
    For a quality paint job though it cant beat it!
    Thanks for watching!

    Getting a new airbrush is Super exciting. One thing I will say, no matter if your using enamel, Acrylic, or Lacquer paint I always take the nozzle apart and clean the gun with lacquer thinner. Even after cleaning I fill my cup up and spray it out the gun just to make sure it's clean. I always keep a Q-Tip and lacquer thinner by my spraybooth when painting so I can clean the tip off while I'm letting the paint flash between coats. It's a game changer.

    I've been airbrushing only about 5 months, I think you learned the biggest lesson, just give it a thorough cleaning

    *Very nice work Jerry~You will really like the airbrush in that you will not be confined to just siple colors as it is from spray cans~You can add pearl powders and metalic flake if you want~This will open a whole new world to you my friend~Have a great Tuesday Buddy :))*

      Thanks Rob. You as well! Your so right about the colors too. Something I learned the other day. Don't use automotive wax on acrylic paint that hasn't been cleared with enamel.....hahahahah My paint job was beautiful but needed a little shine to her, Unfortunately it took the paint right off.....who new?
      Probably everyone!

      @@modelrestorations *Yeah that one you have to learn the hard way~Now as a kid I would always use Pledge furniture polish on my painted models~If I spray just a little on tolet paper then rub it in that didn't seem to hurt the paintwork~But I have been useing the DuPont clear since 1988 on my models and suprising I still use the pledge furniture polish to clean the models on my shelf even now today~I guess that when something worls so well why change it :))*

    I'm toying with using my airbrush. Ive always rattle canned everything. That olds looks so good. I guess I'm going to start experimenting.

      Thanks for watching Joe. I am amazed at how much of a better product you get. The tip clogging is my biggest issue. There is some great advice in the comments on how to prevent that. Also dont go crazy with the air pressure. I now set it at around 18 to 25. Good luck.
      Let us know how it goes.

      Yes I think I am learning a few still. Hahahaha. I do enjoy it though. Just not when I can't get paid to come out.

    That's cool....I'm still spray bombing models. Lol Just don't have the setup or money yet to start airbrushing. I definitely want to learn sometime

      It's not too bad if you have a compresser already. I have a few of the cheap guns, and they work just fine for model bodies, etc.

    • @1968fordman
      @1968fordman Před 5 měsíci +1

      Sweet. I have a 30 gal air compressor in the garage. Seems like it'd be overkill just to fill it to airbrush a model car. Lol.... I'd rather get a small one meant for airbrushing.

    • @modelrestorations
      @modelrestorations  Před 5 měsíci +1

      @1968fordman, that's what I started with, too. In the garage.
      As long as it can drop down to less than 20psi, it will work great. Just make sure you have a water filter on the airline to the gun. One thing I liked about the bigger compresser is it held much more air, so the compressor didn't stay on long. Although I must admit the small one I have now just for AB is much quiter and super easy to move around.

    Don't strip it! You don't have to with this Createx. Let it air dry for 2-4 days, then with 400-600 grit 3M wet and dry paper, lightly wet sand the funky spots smooth. When it's smooth, you can start airbrushing light coats on. Start with just the bad spot, then go out a little further with each coat. I've done this many times and been using Createx for 10+ years.
    Also when reducing, it's not a hard rule for the percentage, some colors are a little thicker than others. Mix in a little cup, NOT the airbrush, let sit for 10-15 min, give another stir, then spray. Don't ask me why the waiting time is important, it just is. If you doubt what I'm saying, go look at my 442 or my USACC builds, both fine with Createx

      Definitely don't doubt what you're saying😊 Thank you for taking the time to write that. I'll do what you said and sand it. I was watching a video and it also said to let it sit after mixing. It had something to do with the reducer breaking down the paint.
      Thanks so much!

      @pappytinkers Před 5 měsíci +2

      @@modelrestorations yes, even the Createx people say to let it sit. They make some excellent videos of other stuff you can do with their paint. I forgot to tell you, I also keep a Q tip soaked with 4011 close by to keep the tip cleaned. As an Oldsmobile fan, I can't wait to see your build finished!

      @@modelrestorations I like you even more now! Lol. I've had 2 68s, a 75, and still have my 72, the never ending project lol. Only 1 was a real 442 tho. I want to have a whole shelf dedicated to Olds kits. I even have a list of ways I want to build them all lol

      @@pappytinkers That's awesome man! Mine is mostly original with the 350R. I drive it every chance I get. I love your idea of a shelf just dedicated to Olds. 72 was a great body style.
