Backpacking the Porcupine Mountains June 2022

- My third time hiking the Porkies with my good friends Mark, Joe, Colin, and Tim. It was nice this time around to be sleeping in a hammock instead of on the ground, and the Porkies is a great place to do that! This also helped make up for the crazy flies and mosquitoes, as well as the intense heat that we encountered out there. We even saw a little cub, although I couldn't get the camera out fast enough to film it. The week started out hot, but we beat the heat later on swimming at Shining Cloud Falls on the Big Carp River. Overall this was a great trip and one for the books.

We spent 4 nights, 5 days hiking and camping, and the itinerary is as follows:
-Parked at the Pinkerton Trailhead
-Night 1: LS-5 on Lake Superior
-Night 2: SML-3 on Mirror Lake
-Night 3: LOC-2 on the Lake of the Clouds
-Night 4: BC-7 on the Big Carp River
Great time great video gentlemen! Thank you! We just got home tonight from a short 3 day hike. LOC cabin and LS 8 campsite. We loved it and plan to hike at least a couple more time this summer @ fall.
How was the cabin? We are going back this July, and have a cabin booked on Lake Superior. I think it's Big Carp 6. We'll be out there for 4 nights but we didn't want to camp on lake superior with those stable flies again haha.
Looks like a great trip minus the flies. They are the worst! What a sweet swimming hole near BC 7. My trip is already booked for this fall but I'll keep that one in mind for the future.
Yeah, I’ve dealt with the fly situation once at Pictured Rocks. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a bug net. Had to keep moving then setup the tent and crawl in and hide until evening. Those flies are no joke
Yeah they really are!! I'm going back here in July and we booked a cabin for the night on Lake Superior, just in case those flies are there again.
I've been up there many times. The one time we went in early June and experienced the flies and mosquitoes was enough to convince me to never go in spring again!
Lol yeah I've done it twice now in June. If our schedules cooperated we would've picked late September. Never again! Lol we're actually going back in late July, hopefully they won't be this bad. But I'm not super optimistic on that lol
Great video, as always! Thanks for capturing the memories. Let's start planning the next one!
Hell yeah dude, glad you made it this time!
That's a nice trail with the river flowing beside it with some honey campsites! Looked like it was a lot of fun & lots of great views too!
Hey man! You really should try and get up there one of these years if you haven't been already. Really a gorgeous place, just gotta pick the right time of year.
@@EscapingTheCity Yup - when the flies are biting! NOT! Yeah, looks super nice & with river running through...would enjoy the crap out of that!
