Number 17 Horrie was a little pup that the ‘rebels’ looked after and eventually snuck back into Australia. Up until a few years back he was thought to have been killed thanks to quarantine laws a few years after the war and only a few people knew the truth about how he lived out his days on a farm. My grandfather was one of those people. He is even mentioned in the book.
