Joey Beck brought out his new Yamaha YXZ 1000R to Choccolocco Mtn for a benefit ride. Joey wasn't scared and hit Boat Ramp one of the most famous obstacles at Choccolocco mtn. He ended up breaking a front axle and laying it over on its side.
I wish I had 20K to just beat on a fucking rock.

I love how the folks back east buy a high revving manual trans pure sport machine and take it rock crawling...something it obviously was not designed for. If the guy had spent 5 minutes researching the YXZ before buying it, he would have realized that for this kind of terrain a CVT based SxS would have been better, probably a Can-Am. The CVT based SxS have more low end torque...the Yamaha is meant to rev high and go fast.

That's it right there. I would have found something else to do, and anyone else that bitched about it, I would have told them that i would be happy to keep trying if they want to make a few payments on it, or hand over a couple thousand dollars for repairs.
It's a bummer side by sides are so dam expensive. Just doesn't seem like $20k worth of machine.

I think if he had less aggressive tires (more contact area to the ground ) he would have made it easily. Those knobbies are not good on slick flat surfaces.

This is purely a driver error...Either find traction on the rock or get speed up to cross it...or just stop...The machine has the power ,speed,and suspension....The true clutch requires oldschool skills the maintain power and speed without cooking it..I have 0ver 1800mi so far and two years on tight steep,rocky,muddy missouri trails...Still on stock clutch and first gen gearing....Its not the golf cart push and go clutch in the rzr...It adds to the drivers skill and shifting at 10k is something that I personally like.....Rzr was cool, but no going back!Some prefer the simplicity of the belt....all good...we cooked alot of belts usually under similar abuse situations..Its a preferance...at best...ride on...
Hard to watch such a nice machine get destroyed...

That triple will dominate. torque, and horse power. and high rpm's. They sound sweet with a pipe.
Honestly I'd say it did good. If it's slick, it's slick. Ain't nothing making it up there. Sounds like the reviews are right and the reduced gearing in the 19+ was needed. Could hear this struggle in first when turning around. Wish they had been able to tweak it with a high/low 5 speed transmission so it actually had 10 gears. Would be very impressive then.

Agh, not sure on the recluse clutch.....they don't have the bottom end torque, they make the power at high rpm, that's why the things rev to like 8,000rpm or something wild

this yxz is totally not meant for web crawling... but its good to know how well or how far this can go and finally go KO.
Apparently slick, smooth, wet rock at an incline does not provide the best traction.
The weak link is the idiot who is driving that beautiful machine and trying to destroy it.
Yamaha Rocks.....But it needs a 5 speed with HIGH & LOW mode...LOW mode for Rock climbing and going through deep nasty mud, etc. Otherwise clutch issues....

I'm trying to figure out how he blew that axle, that tire was running on a rock slick at 50 mph... it doesn't look like he should have broken it. The wheel was turned, that's just about the only factor that pushed the limit.
Even if the tire got pinched inside of a rock rut or something, at 50 mph I would think it would pop up out of the rut before it snapped an axle!

+-Tq- An axle thats spinning at 50 miles and hour with a full wheel and tire assembly that suddenly gains traction has alot of energy that has to go somewhere. Even the best axles cant beat physics, this most likely being a stock axle was lucky to make it as long as it did.

not making excuses but that's 90% of why I didn't climb it... I'll hit it again in a few months... it will climb this hill, softer suspension and less tire pressure I will one shot it... or blow it up, I don't care either way hahaha

These are a joke at 20k. Should have twice the power, beefier roll cage and true manual shifter with a limited slip dif. Lower pressure on the tires would have won the day here.

is it me or does it lack on torque ? looked way better on paper, when he's pinched in after sliding down he can barely turn the tires to turn around, reminds me of Arctic Cat when they came out with the mud pro 1000 it was all good on paper lol

+Blackhawk51806 I was always a Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki and Yamaha fan before, but since 2009 when I first drove a 800r I've never went back to Japanese machines, don't get me wrong they have amazing machine, but for the deal I got on my Can Am Outlander and comparing it to other machines that were the same price as my 800r and 300cc less I figured Can Am was my best option, doesn't mean I don't like other machines though, I've had allot of issues with Can Am so don't know what id buy next, anyone knows the top speed on the Arctic Cat Wildcat trail ?
def, I'm up North in the Ottawa Ontario area, tight trails and long straights but def to wide for our trails, nice machine though :)
+Guillaume Lamdeleine The 3 cylinder doesnt have bad torque since it's well.....between a 4 and a twin. Good middle ground motor. I think the shifting was getting the best of him more than anything, but yeah i think a twin is better for this stuff generally, at the dunes not so much

have you ever rode in a SxS? not everyone is able to ride a dirt bike or ATV. SxS is way safer also because of seatbelt and roll cage. I've rode them all and really enjoy my rzr.

+TheForzaGamer- That's for sure, I can't hate though, I love the new YXZ, just not the looks. I have a RZR 1000 and love it!!! It's all just an opinion and how your going to drive it though. They all have there weak points somewhere, but after the machine is worked out, great fun to be had in all of them! :)
