Trains at Wigan North Western - 20/02/2024

Filmed on 20/02/2024. Its another day and another new outing for the list for the way to the Lake District. This station is one of two of its stations which is no more than a few hundred meters away from each other and also see's other lines. For those of you which guessed it in the community tab, well done as it is Wigan North Western. (Season 11 Episode 3)
For this is only our second visit to this station which links along the West Coast Mainline for Merseyside, London and the North. More in terms of variety not only at Wigan North Western but also for the lines linking its second station of Wigan Wallgate which links to: Lancashire, Yorkshire, Merseyside and Greater Manchester.
A few changes which happened in the later stages of 2023 is Northern transferred across their class 331's. With the 331/1 units being transferred to Edge Hill/Allerton Depot and the 331/0 being transferred across to Skipton/Neville Hill depots. The platforms along the Wharfdale Lines are being extended to accommodate for 6 carriage pairing class 331's.

Im from St Helens Rick, but I have spent many hours on Wigan.
We use to go there to see all the steam trains when l was a kid
Brings back memories, mid to late 60s.👍

Gosh, a lot of memories you had of the glory days. The times as well when the diesles phased out the steamers sadly. An incredible era the railways were back then :-)

It's quickly becoming that way hence as well for the focus of arrivals and departures at Wigan Wallgate. A big shame the 319's are gone but it's the way it is.
