When I first heard Portnoy left DT, 2 guys immediately came to mind to handle drum duties. Mike Mangini and Bobby Jarzombek. I don!t know why Bobby never tried out for DT.
Different reasons. He didn't had time to work into the material properly and he always thought that portnoy will come back. On the other hand, could you imagine how limited Bobby would have been with joining DT?
WOW!...I did know this guy until yesterday!...great songs and performance!!! Now lookng to deep dive in his music, but not shure from where I should start, the guy has buuuuunch of albums recorded!...any suggestion?. Last but not leat, THANKS for uploading this content!
I am only really familiar with his Fates Warning material, but you can't go wrong with any of those: Darkness in a Different Light (2013) Theories of Flight (2016) Long Day, Good Night (2020) Recommendation for his most inspiring work: Theories of Flight I saw him play with Halford back in the day (2000-2001), and I know his Spastic Ink work (with his brother) is probably his most technical stuff. The guy is a beast.
@@Timotolas Fantastic! It's a great journey! (I like Bobby more than Mark Zonder in Fates Warning, and Zonder was about as close to Neil Peart in style and technique as one could get) Enjoy!
I would suggest you start with the straighter stuff he did: Riot (especially Thundersteel), Halford and Sebastian Bach. Then move towards Juggernaut, Zierler, Arch/Matheos, Fates Warning (since joining them (of course also Mark Zonder (prior Fates Warning drummer) is a beast and in the end you evolve into total madness by listening to Spastic Ink. Of course there are lots of other bands he played for
I couldn't work out what the clicking sound was at first ,until I realised it must be some sought of bass click things, that sound is really really awful and annoying like clothes pegs popping of a line
czcams.com/video/Vdgs3anFrAo/video.htmlsi=wGlhyBXYzOO6lXFN Here is my humble attempt on this crazy and ridiculous hard song (peppered cancer)! So much respect for Bobby, just my all time favorite drummer, learned tons from him. Covered note by note, hope you like it!
All these years of watching the clips. Now the whole thing. Life is good.

15:10 " i play a lot of double bass, and that's a good thing".
Yes sir!
Spastic Ink was very fun. I remember I first "discovered" them how completely mind blowing they were. The OG Animals As Leaders!
Still way more advanced than AAL.
Saw him live with Halford years ago. Absolutely incredible.
Same here. 2000.
I love how honest he is when he’s talking about how much he sweats when he plays in the beginning, all killer no filler this guy
Amazing. Still have the DVD. Still can't play anything from it.
😂
It makes a great conversation piece
@@millerbeer01 Holidays, any sort of family gathering, your local pub even.
Just to have 10% of this guy's talent... Just 10% of his foot technique alone! Something!! A percussive clinical monster drummer.
The one who owns them all!
He plays for country legend George Strait now
That's so badass
And still with Fates Warning.
OH YURR full upload!
he was so young here, and at this age already so good
Bobby is KING
Drum monster
Hate to say that I've never heard of this guy but I'm totally floored. Monster player
His brother is the greatest guitarist on the planet.
He and his brother Ron come from far outta space.
his brother also insanely monster ... damnnnn
How is it possible I haven't heard of this man?!?!?
Most underrated drummer in the world. Easily on the top 5!
@@vitorferreira8899hi, what are the other ones (in metal) ?
@@romaincassignolHappy to add 2 more: Gene Hoglan and Mark Zonder! Together with Bobby the Holy Trinity of drumming! Can't get any better
Killer drummer, and best person
Just a monster! Love to see this in its entirety finally!
amazing drummer!! great artist!!!
From Bloodstreets to Scream in the Dark 🥁🤘
Bobby is an alien. Awesome !
I Just watched the first 5+ minutes thinking WTF just happened? 😂 🍺 🔥
Omg omg omg thanks for sharing this master piece
He is my very vaforite drummer since SPASTIC INK... Sad, he did`nt made it to the drummer auditions of DREAM THEATER....
Be happy he didn't do it. Imagine how limited he would have been. He's too advanced to only play in DT.
@@Signofevil_Smile4theCam but perfect for George Strait?
@@unluckykeys it's just a well paid gig. Still leaving space for other projects. DT would have been lock-in.
@@Signofevil_Smile4theCam fair enough
MY GOD!!!!!!!!!
Killer drumming. Glad this was uploaded! 👊

i presume Dream Theater was too commercial for Bobby ...lol....
Portnoy is back with Dream Theater again.
Bad ass drumming! Reverse crash 😅

48:38 the splash flurry to signify the next section, damn.
Monster.
Would have loved to see him do a record with Chuck!
i literally thought it was ron talking overdubbed onto the video lmao
Mike who? Neil who? This guy must have fitted perfectly with Frank Zappa. BTW, Spastic Ink is way out of this world.
And just for the records, as it hasn't been yet mentioned in the comments below. He of course is entirely self taught!
They really did dude dirty with the thumbnail.
Him and his brother Ron are mutants sent to advance the human race…
looks so simple only if he play

No. Plays open handed, yes.
MONSTER!
the barefeet... lmaoooooo
Well, best way to feel the pedal.
Something is missing 🙄🤧. You need to trick a frisbee in the drumming but still you are not close to DEATH Metal 🤔🤕
