Very nice Rick! Great, simple yet elegant design.... I've never used a plug cutter. Really appreciate your mentioning them.

Lovely little project, i like the little dark dowels it just goes to show that even on a simple, title vase there is something to be learned keep up the good work and keep posting

Excellent video. Like the mirror behind the lathe. Lets us see what is going on. Also like that there is no music like so many videos have. Good work

Thank you, Joe. I don't like the music added to a lot of woodturning videos either....I'd rather hear the machine noise (muted somewhat).

Nice job. I am often looking to do something with those odd pieces, and this looks like an option. One thing that you might want to show, is what you do to actually finish the bottom after parting. I work with several younger turners and that is a question that they always ask. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for commenting, Raymond, and thanks for the suggestion. On weedpots, I don't do any real finishing on the bottom...just remove the nub and rub some finish on the raw wood. I'll include that in later videos, though.

    Very nice design.
My wife likes these also, and we have given them away as gifts. I have been making them using glass inserts so that she can keep the bud alive longer with a little water - I purchase ordinary glass test tubes at a surplus store (Marine Specialities, Provincetown, MA).
The other thing I do is use a jam chuck to hold the finished vase to finish the bottom. The jam chuck is just a block of wood (mine is threaded to fit on my spindle, but it could also be mounted in a scroll chuck) and with a turned dowel that fits inside the hole in the vase.

I've often thought about using glass inserts, but have considered it too expensive. Where do you get your inserts from?

Thanks, Pearl. I love turning weedpots....that don't take much material, and they're.quick and easy to make. And my wife loves to give them away to friends and family.

Hi, Jeff. It’s been so long ago that I made this video, that I’ve forgotten. But oil finishes like this are usually wiped on, let sit for 10 minutes, then wiped off. Hope that helps.
