  • I picked up this 1966 split window bus that was found in northern new hampshire that has been off the road since 1995 due to rust, so lets get it in the garage and up on the lift to see what it is going to take to bring it back to road ready condition.
after that we make our shopping list for parts then cold start the other vw buses in the shipping container to take the restored bus for a ride along the coastline .

VWs are the best. Nothing makes a person smile more than driving around in a Air cooled VW.

Even with the floor problems that looks like a very good project since it's a good runner and the body is in fairly good shape and most of the parts are there. With the price of split window busses being up there its a good investment opportunity for someone with restoration skills like you.

‘A much better mood”. I was having a really lousy day until I started binge-watching your videos. This one, in particular, did definitely put me in a much better mood. Your videos always do. They remind me of my younger years hanging out with my best buddy wrenching and fixing stuff for the fun of it, before things became complicated working 7/365 the last 17 years. You inspire me to take some time for myself and get back to the thing I love to do most: fixing and restoring and breathing new life into old cars, trucks, or anything with an engine. Thank you so much for sharing your love for mechanics, and your beautiful State.

Trippin down memory lane! Wow. My cousin won one of these 1966 Bus, Sea Blue and Ivory in a card game. He sold it to me for $250.00 in 1973. I removed the governor and installed a Holley Bug Spray and extractor exhaust, adjusted valves and drove from Fond du Lac Wisconsin to Fort Lewis Washington. Also installed 6Volt driving lights cleaned up all grounds . It had a coffee can full of new points and condensers + two gas heaters! One was already installed. Slowest trip I ever made, but maybe the coolest. I used 20W50 Racing oil.

Seeing this and the other bus vids brought back memories of...my families' car which was a blue & white '66 deluxe suburban with sun windows and sunroof. We drove across country in it (from NY to CA and back) in 69. I have a lot of very clear memories of that trip even though I was around 5 yo at the time. We kept the bus up until around '79. Enjoying the channel greatly as I grew up with VW's and am a wrencher at heart. Subscribed.

Hi Mustie, The thing that the blue VW microbus need... There is the whole floor chassis that VW can sell it. That the top body and sides of Microbus can come off and mount the roof and 4 sides body to the brand new floor (unibody). Save a lot of trouble. In outside where there is room to raise up the Microbus. Please, look in video by Fixin Bugs -N- Stuff and title is VW Bug Pan removal and adding new pan. It is very reasonable and low cost.

There's always scumbags around that would be delighted to run off with a load of hard to find VW parts. I know of a few world class ripoff scenarios where the owners didn't think anyone would steal their stuff, and didn't secure their parts and vehicles. Sadly, they were wrong.

If the running gear is good then t would restore. With all the extra metal for the bod the pan would be a simple replace. After seeing what you did with pan rails on the bug the fact the floor is toast will make it easier to get to other places. I know you can do it, you've proven you have the will power and technology to overcome most any situation. Love your posts.
