- Filming With Hobo Shoestring, CSX Santa Train Leaving With Additional Passenger Car & Steep Railroad Crossing In Kingsport, Tennessee. Freight Train In Alan, Kentucky Near Piketon Is Included. These trains are in Tennessee and Kentucky on the CSX main line. This is Part 3 of my CSX Santa Train that I chased in Virginia and Tennessee on the old Clinchfield Railroad line.
Hobo Shoestring and his friend Troy rode with me from Tennessee to Kentucky. We filmed a CSX train at a railroad crossing in Alan, Kentucky. We were on the way to Ashland so they could camp out and on the way I heard a CSX train approaching on my radio. I pulled off the road and filmed the train with Mark and Troy.
The next train was actually filmed a couple days before I stopped at Shoestrings place. I found an interesting looking railroad crossing on Google Maps while I was in Kingsport, Tennessee. The railroad crossing is a little steep and next to some historic grave sites. A CSX train came through on its way to the main yard in town. I filmed this just before dark and then got a motel. We see the motel that I got for a night. The next thing we see is when I stopped at Shoestrings apartment.
The final train is rather interesting. This is the CSX Santa train. It had already ran its complete route where Santa and helpers gave out toys. I went to the south south of Kingsport and filmed the train on its way to Jacksonville, Florida. Notice that the train has an extra car on it. In my Part 2 video I showed the car being put on the rear of the train after everyone got off the train in Kingsport. Look how long the train was after they put that final car on! Hey Brian and Mark..That is the old Netherland Inn in the old original Kingsport..That crossing at Lilac is a high grounder.. GPS routes unsuspecting truckers across it and they're always getting stuck on the tracks there.. good thing its close to the yard and trains are slowing down before there..

Those shows are all on YT… Filmed at an old world building school in LA. That building gone now.

I used to work in a steel plant in Hueytown Alabama and those coil cars were brought in through the end of the building, then overhead cranes lifted the tops off and removed the coils. I used to have tags from a dozen different countries the steel was shipped from.

Can’t believe you were in my hometown. I live in Pikeville KY and I knew exactly where you were. Alan is spelled Allen and you were as locals call it Mud Creek but it’s actually Harold. The Santa train has been running for about 82 years the weekend before thanksgiving it is something that everybody has seen at least once in their lifetime. Great to see your videos and see the legend shoestring. Come back to visit again sometime and maybe I’ll be lucky enough to see you. Take care.

That first train was already getting into the tricky light division where the sunset in the valley is already like 2:00 p.m. Good to see hobo shoestring as the crew van stopped to pick them up . Last but not least the Santa Train which had been viewed by 1000s of festive folks now just a handful of people to say farewell till next season. Ho. Ho. 😊Ho. Send JT some coal.

That was cool at that steep crossing! The train was notching up as it rolled through and I could hear those diesels working hard to get up to speed :) Nice catch of that CSX OCS train :) Good to see Hobo Shoestring is doing well.

Thanks again for all your great videos and special thanks that you refrain from hype and sensational click bait. Seems like if that train were any heavier, CSX would need to add a DPU! Loki at it again. Ironically, I saw the Barbie Movie for the first time last night. Much heavier than I expected. Anyway, Loki making wild Barbie or new category, drawn and quartered Barbie. As someone who grew up in TN, IMO you were in the best part of TN and also Shoestring home turf. Maybe this time next year, Nashville's 576 steam locomotive fully restored and running. I used to play on that locomotive when it was in Centennial Park, more than 60 years ago. A little off topic but looks as if most of the places you video will have snow by January 1, 2024.
I am really looking forward to filming in the snow. I love doing that. The more the better for me. I put the truck in 4 wheel drive, add a couple buckets of gravel, a shovel and charge the batteries. Tennessee is an awesome state. I want to film around Chattanooga soon. Thanks for watching and commenting!
