- This week, we’re bringing you the latest video from a series that we call Home Coffee Brewing with April. We have one last episode to bring to you from Japan, this time from the city of Kobe.
We believe that innovation in coffee brewing starts at home, and that some of the most special and meaningful interactions with coffee can take place within your own kitchen.
As we are frequently travelling visiting our international partners, we decided to introduce this format as a way to interact with you on a different level whilst maintaining the frequency of our videos.
In this video, Hitomi is brewing a Costa Rican coffee roasted in Japan. She pre-ground the coffee using a Commandate Hand Grinder, and brewed the coffee using a combination of an April Plastic Brewer, a Booster from Sibarist, April Paper Filters and a Drip Assist from Hario. She used kettles and scales from Fellow and Acaia, and chose two different local water choices for rinsing and brewing.

The title says espresso brewing just thought I’d point that out. Great video . I also use the Hario Drip Assist but for all the pours. Going to try it on just the final pour now. Cheers

@@coffeewithapril it would be nice to see another video from you about it, because I just picked up a drip assist.
Because your stated goal is to wet everything as quickly as possible, I would think you'd want to do the first pour without the assist and the second one with it, but would definitely be interesting to hear from you
@@dylanbeschoner we would not use it for the first pour as we prefer the taste profile that comes out of a higher agitation brew.
In for example competitions these sort of our products have been very succesfully but keep in mind that is usually when using very expressive coffees.

Did you notice any difference when using the Sibarist screen under the filters?
We have seen it/tried it a few times during our Home Brewing videos and we don't taste a major difference. That being said, we are currently exploring different options and versions together with Sibarist.
@@coffeewithapril In my opinion the sibarist booster helps you keeping a consistent flow rate even if you're not very good at pouring water, it sorts of allows more mistakes to be made when pouring since it creates some space between the base of the brewer and the paper filter which makes it really hard to clog, so.. it doesn't really make a lot of different when it comes to taste (if you're really good at brewing...) but makes it easier for home baristas, i use it all the time with my KALITA 155 and it really made a big different in flow rate.

Wow, weighing the rinsing water? I'd love you to prove this isn't a placebo by doing a proper AB test.
Thank you for watching. Yes, it's something that we see a lot of in the World Coffee Brewing Championships. Have you tried it yourself?
Here's a reason to weigh the rinsing water regardless of whether impacts the taste in the cup: it means you won't boil extra water unnecessarily. This matters to me because I use third wave water and it's not free.
@@dylanbeschoner I do the same - I add 50g extra that I use for rinsing the paper filters.
