A really interesting item, Taff. It's amazing that pieces like that are still being discovered over a hundred years after the end of the war.
It certainly is, Andy.It makes you wonder what else is still out there waiting to be rediscovered.
I assume a master carpenter was attached to the pioneer battalion as that’s a lovely piece of craftsmanship
Every Infantry Battalion had a Pioneer Section, Rob. It’s most likely that they would have made it.

I go to college about 5 mins away from Belstead church, unfortunately it was locked when I visited it so I couldnt go inside
It’s worth persevering. It’s a lovely Church.

He does. He is buried in Hem Farm Cemetery.
Very Intresting item, wonder why it was brought home?
When the wooden crosses were replaced by headstones the family were offered the original wooden ones.
