Lgs are normally very good machines. The electronics used by LG are reliable and are actually very efficient. Yes it's on but the standby draw is very negligible. The old machine used 4 times as much power. Lid locks are a safety device which is required to make sure some idiot doesn't stick their arm in the spinning basket and break it off then sue the company for their stupidity (someone somewhere has done it!) Which is also why the warning labels. Some people aren't bright and need instructions on how not to injure themselves. That motor actually will last the 10 years which is why the warranty is there to back it up. (Though you will end up paying all the labor). Direct drive motors in any brand are very good. (Though there probably is a gearbox between the motor and basket and that may not last 10). The washability is a common issue with current top load machines. I always recommend front loaders for their wash performance and reliability. As a service tech of 20 years I can assure you of that.
Thanks for sharing this information. I am extremely skeptical of all appliances made within the last 10 years. I would use something vintage 10 out of 10 times, no matter how much more inefficient it is. Reliability is what counts, and from my experience, these new units just don't have that.

If your LG washer craps out on you make sure you invest in a Speed Queen washing machine.
I like speed queen tc5 and ge only topload machines
