It’s not sexual tension they are polar opposites in every way and want to kill each other and inevitably one of them is going to kill the other. I wouldn’t be surprised if Vera ends up killing Joan and then also has to be an inmate!
This concept of love saving people enabled severe toxicity. Joan had Vera’s love at one point, and she abused it. If you keep forgiving abusers or making concessions for them, people die.
