My first and only Mogwai live experience was in Baltimore, at the Otto Bar, around 2006 or 2008 or something. I was milling around in front of the stage area before the show started, like everyone else. The band starts to come out....lights dim. Find myself standing next to this dude. He looks over at me and asks, "have you ever seen Mogwai before?" I said no. He sticks his hand into his jacket pocket and pulls out a bag of orange ear plugs- and offers them to me. "You're gonna need these"
Oh, I love them live! I think they are consistently one of the best live acts I get to see, and the amazing thing is it's all just on the strength of the music. Very little chit chat or pandering to the crowd. If ever you have a chance to see them in a small indoor venue, do it. The sensory overload is a wonderful experience. You go blind and deaf, but it's so refreshing....like doing a ctrl-alt-del on your central nervous system.
One of the best mixed live sets I've ever heard. I know it's not easy to mix this blend of instruments. Good ears are behind this work! Of course Mogawai are the main ears of this creation. Also whom ever mixed this live set is good for sure.
I was there and I can testify that is true. What is impressive is that they also played louder than the other acts and somehow their mix was also clearer and just better. Such a great show.
How have I possibly "missed out" on this band for the last 17 years?!? (Possibly through living in Spain for most of that time). Now, thanks to an Ian Rankin book I´m reading, I´ve belatedly been introduced to some incredible yet almost uncategorisable music. Captivating, mesmeric, innovative, brilliant. Time to catch up on some lost years......
Best show ever. Saw them in Sónar São Paulo and I swear the music could pass through my body and I wasn´t near the stage. It was like an ocean of sound. Sometimes calm and other coud get violent. Amazing.

I found this kind of music (post rock) a few weeks ago, and i have to say i was missing something great. Listen other bands like God is an astronaut, Caspian and explosions in the sky.
aaaah mogwai... they are like minimal music in the rock genre. how they build up a track step by step. every "round" another piece until there's a huge wall of sound floating towards you.
archive dot org slash details slash Mogwai has 165 Mogwai shows. This one does not appear to be on archive.org but there are plenty of good quality shows here.

After Mogwai, everything else is pretentious and silly. Seeing them for the first time in Portland soon.
I listen to this garbage regular, and have no piercings, nor any interest in gaining any piercings.
