1UZ will bolt straight up to the Delica trans as they are just a variant of the A340
Was gonna suggest the very same thing.
And then bolt a little supercharger on if you can squeeze it in as well!

I've got a mate in the midst of a 1UZ conversion on his Delica, should be a bit of a weapon when it is finished.

Actually any Toyota engine that came with an A340 or A341 trans will bolt up to the Delica trans as long as you use the bell housing, TC, input shaft and front pump from the donor. A lot of Toyota 4, 6, and 8 cyl engines used that trans in the 90s. Some Jeeps and Volvos also used the A340 trans.

Been there done that. L400 Deli's all have faulty temp gauges from the get go. The VERY FIRST thing to do is to buy an aux temp gauge, and run the sender from the TOP radiator hose.

4m41 commonrail would be the easiest conversion for the delica. I have one in my Gen2 Pajero.

Cylinder heads spilt between the valves on cylinders 3 & 4 usually. Head gaskets don’t normally fail.

Those things are famous for doing heads my parents had a 4m40 2.8 it cracked the head in 3 places trying to keep up with an old Isuzu

If you are going to do a engine swap I would suggest a 4m41 swap, it's a more modern more power full, more economical, it's all around a better motor. you can also manual swap it at the same time. I have done heaps of research into it as I was going to do it, but I sadly do not have the setup nor quite that much technical knowledge to have a crack. But I'm sure with the knowledge you have and garage setup you could easily do it. If you need any info feel free to DM me.

If i go for l400 i choose to swap a 4d56u crdi. Manual transmission 4wd. I own a l300 delica 4wd 4d56t manual gearbox and I'd say.. it a bulletproof. Climbing in 4d56 manual is so easy.

An LS swap rear locker and front LSD would turn this into a true weapon. Man that’s a great rig if you put some time in money into it. But is it worth it……..???
