That's not an uncommon naming convention to show that a character is undisciplined or fighting with their own style, I've seen it in other franchises too. Kamen Rider Den-O's finisher is named similar, for example, "My Finishing Move!"
@@explodedglue5509 There are like five variations (that are all identical) depending on how particularly ikuze ikuze ikuze Momotaros feels in that moment lmao
Yakuza 4 & 5 having side dudes that you never see again is one of the strangest things in hindsight man. But I liked them, would play a Shinada baseball game
Also it's really starting to look like Akiyama is a side dude we're never seeing again, and even though he had more longevity than Tanimura or Shinada, that makes me sad.
Shinada once you learn his tech is an actual monster. Weapons become more of a compliment for his gameplay rather than the main attraction, you can decimate with this dude. Watch some no damage gameplay with him. Also his sidestory is one of my favs
I also love that he refuses to use a baseball bat as a weapon in respect to the sport. Although let’s be real, he’d be OP if he used a baseball bat. Like Slugger Majima 2.0
His moveset honestly slaps against the normal trash mobs. He plays like a grappler from a fighting game that can pull out a stick to bonk people. Against any sort of boss enemy though it feels like I'm playing blockuza 3.
Honestly, I think Shinada's biggest strength is that he was made with this new engine in mind. Yeah, Kiryu got his moveset revamped for it, but does he have three separate heat actions for the new wall bounce statuses? Does he get the ability to decimate enemies on the ground with his weapon movesets? Does he become a literal god the moment you unlock the Hercules Gloves and suddenly you're able to grab into throws into grabs into combos into tackles into pick-up grabs into throws, ad infinitum? I rest my case.
That’s how I feel about Yagami too. Even after playing Gaiden with Kiryu’s revamped moveset it still doesn’t feel as natural or refined as Yagami’s moveset in Judgement or Lost Judgement.
Speaking of enemies dropping weapons, i had an enemy drop a patriarchs bat while playing as Kiryu. I wouldve put my head through drywall if that happened as Shinada.
Kiryu's reminiscences in Infinite Wealth make it clear he never had any more contact with Tanimura, but the entry for Shinada doesn't say anything like that.
I think Shinada was the prototype to Yakuza life beyond Kiryu. Like Ichiban, he has a goofball demeanor, a background tied to the sex industry, and starts his story with nothing to his name while being dumped in a backwater town where no one know him. Also, like Yagami, he was an idealist dedicated to one love (baseball instead of law) ended up leaving that profession while still clinging to that idealism about what he values most. Also, he wears a jacket over a white tank-top but also knows how to wear properly fitting jeans.
I want to play as shinada trying to start his career in japanese wrestling! Imagine he learning lucha from the great tiger mask! RGG studio make it happen!!!
Since I never did get into the busted weapons, i always treated the infinite durability weapons as "heat generators". Just use them on a large group, then build up enough heat, expend it, repeat.
I love playing as shinada, once you get all of his moves he just has so many options to completely overwhelm enemies with aggressive plays. Once you master it its like youre juggling enemies as EX boost Yagami
I honestly LOVED playing as Shinada, both with weapons and unarmed. His bare handed fighting style is pretty brutish and unrefined and i kinda liked that, compared to playing as Kiryu and Saejima, who can demolish their enemies in seconds, i liked having to work hard and learn Shinada's moves to get the upperhand on the enemies, it feels more rewarding to play him for me. Also his unique weapon attacks are pretty cool, my favorite being poles, knives and tonfas. Also he is pretty much the heart and soul of Yakuza 5 in my opinion, best story, best side characters like Takasugi, and best boi Shinada, i hope RGG brings him back for a cameo substory for 8, or even bring him in if they ever bring back the baseball minigame for 8.

He's kinda like Tanimura, but way worse. Tanimura had his godlike parry and invincibilty frames during his long throw animations but Shinada only had unique weapon movements that only deal little to no damage.

When you gotta do the climax battles and then you come across that one battle as shinada where you have to defeat enemies and the only way you can damage them is the animation for drawing weapons
You forgot about the grab cancels, Shinada can cancel any light attack or quickstep with a grab and get some free damage in. It was my bread and butter to counter blocking.
I swear he would be my favourite character for fights if his damage wasn’t so meh. He’s incredibly fun to dispose of trash mobs with his unique style, it’s when you face bosses that you’re in for a long time lol.
When I did the komakis as Kiryu, I had the shuddering thought of "oh no, I'll have to fight them as Shinada..." and I somehow did it first try but I don't remember what I did.
I'm not going to talk about his gameplay, but the fact that you started with 217 yen is what makes Shinada really different from the rest. You can really feel his struggle with money, and that translates really well into his gameplay for the first few hours. The man is a big hearted loveable idiot, who tries to run away from his depression by acting perverted and goofy. You can tell that he's trying his best to escape his past but still can't fully let it go. The dynamic with Takasugi, his relationship with Nagoya citizens really makes him different from the rest. The biggest part of Shinada's tech is his heat actions imo. Abusing his wall throw that leaves enemies in a wallsplat, his downed heat action that leaves enemies grabbed and his tackle heat action to abuse how bosses break out of his tackle make him much more deadly.
I was way into Saijima’s gameplay and at a curtain point of not only leveling him up but completing the mountain master story he definitely becomes one of the strongest characters in the game if not the series, and people talking about how good shinada is when you get good at his style makes me wonder if every main character has goated gameplay when you get to learn it well (the answer is definitely yes)
I don't know if that's exclusive to him but you can also combo unarmed light attacks into equipping a weapon which does an attack and then continue combo
Being able to grab through the guard during shinada’s rush combo is actually huge, especially when fighting bosses it’s hard to make it to the throw after the finishing blow, so grabbing them as you punch their guard and then hitting them with the square combo after grabbing builds up damage quick and easy. That was my strat against Amon as Shinada and it worked very well(until the Amon Mf started levitating, then I had to pull out the pipe and just spam as I try my best to avoid all the umbrellas😭)

30 seconds in - hoping to see a mention of the secret of guard blocking ability, which, with timing, allows you to break block with THE RUSH COMBO of all things
My notes: Weapon usage is his main priority, but grabbing and grappling is a good secondary. Also, you don't need to mention it's an Iron pipe specifically, especially since it's a Sturdy Pole in game, eh? But yeah, Metal pipe is fine, because that is what you get during the story. Enemies can drop special things - I actually got a Legendary Kinryu bat from a random thug in Kamurocho as Akiyama. Moment I saw what it was, I pocketed it. Basically - keep an eye out for rare weapons, you may just get lucky. Thank you for telling me about the pole being able to continuously charge - I never knew that was a thing, and you bet your ass I'm gonna be using that way too much now. And the 3 person heat action with the sword? Good lord, never knew that was a thing either. And, of course, what I said before: secret of guard blocking. Absolute legendary ability and if you get it down for the 2nd hit in the rush combo, you can pretty easily smack 'em with the second finisher and floor them with a headbutt. Great stuff.
I did the Coliseum in this game with every character and brought all 4 characters that can fight (not Haruka obviously) into the top 4 ranking, so I only fight them (the player characters) in the last tournament. And I honestly must say that I didn't even find Shinada to be the hardest character to rank up in the Coliseum, he definitely takes the most time since his damage output is really low and it's obviously not as easy with him to defeat enimies in the coliseum as it is with Kiryu and Saejima, but I definitely found it slightly easier with him than with Akiyama. His gameplay is not for everyone, but he is definitely very unique to play and that's what I like about him.
My problem with shinada was that I was tired of the game before he showed up. So when I finally played his story it was with the goal of getting over with as soon as possible.

I have spent hours leveling Shinada and doing his colosseum mission to get the 100%. And yes, firstly, he's a nightmare to play as, but when you get used to it, it becomes very enjoyable and fun to play as
Random enemies surprisingly *can* have good weapons on them. One particular thug I fought pulled out a glowing 10 star dragon bat. I promptly beat the shit out of him and took the bat. Upon placing it in my inventory, I then couldn’t pull it back out because my character’s weapon skill wasn’t at level 10. Then again, I was in premium adventure mode, so perhaps thugs can casually (albeit rarely) spawn with top tier weapons.

Thanks for putting some respect on my man’s name
When Joey the Anime Man gets inserted into a game.
RIP Shinada's grabs, screwed over by 60fps
I Loved Shinada Due to a Fact That We Both Have a Love for Baseball & Something Along The Line We Both Had That Taken Away From Us
Now im reminded about how i did ok against the komaki twins with shinada, but wanted to die with Akiyama.
Really fun character and story.
Lackluster gameplay.
i think you just like lightsabers
Can’t wait for him to talk about Taiga in yakuza 5 his health bar and Herculean spirit are so unfair.
I loved his part of the game, I like using hammers and tonfas with him
I hope Shinada and Akiyama (a.k.a Japanese John Wick) both return someday
