D&D tried so hard to turn Stannis into a dislikable character yet Dillain’s badass performance fucked that up every step of the way until the end. Even during the Shireen burning, that fucking wrenching stare like a “WHAT AM I DOING” kinda expression made me love him to the end.

Yeah, but at least Ramin Djawadi never let us down. Even when Season 8 was at its worst, he still wrote some unforgettable compositions. It's just too bad they were in the service of an incomprehensibly awfully written script.

Actually neither of you is right. Stannis was/is an idealist. He belived/belives that because of the law it is his duty to be the king (because if a bastard from an incest can just take the throne to himself then why even there is the law?) he actually claims that he never wanted to be the king. And he also belived that this is needed to save the world (which was right, because only him and night's watch gave a shit about white walkers).

Completely unrelated, but I’d listen to music mixes with the Lord of Light’s theme all the time while grinding through Diablo. The eeriness, and strange, haunting power to it made it fit that universe so well. Even while playing as a paladin or a crusader, slaying hell spawn with this in the background just felt so right. So yeah, this has me feeling nostalgic, but because of something unrelated to Game of Thrones. And I guess that’s a testament to Ramin Djawadi’s skill as a composer.

One of my favorite aspects of asoiaf/got is the religious/cultural aspect. I feel like so few pieces of fiction focus on religion, culture and ethnic identity, as well as how they interact with eachother and change over time. All the three main religions are so fleshed out that they could easily be real religions.

Just when I was getting bored of the recycled concepts and character tropes in the Show, Melisandre and her contemporaries drew me back in.
The show was appealing to people of many ideals but as it is in the books, they capped it off with the Lord of Light.
The fear, the mystery, and the wonder and undeniable miracles represent the advent of Monotheistic Dualism to the ancient world and why so many couldn't and still can't wrap their minds around, at the very least, a mythos centered on trying to imagine the unimaginable and to relay unspeakable messages

The red god answered prayers, but it he always wanted something in return, from actions to literally burning your daughter alive.
Having someone like this grant you some wishes like this can make a man lose his mind is this amount of power. Stannis is the best example.

@@iwanttopotato8848 stannis didn't burn unbelievers or his daughter in the books. It is known that D&D didn't like stannis as a character and the majority of book readers agree they ruined stannis in the show. Here's a direct qoute from stannis regarding the burning of people: “A sacrifice will prove our faith still burns true, Sire,” Clayton Suggs had told the king. And Godry the Giantslayer said, “The old gods of the north have sent this storm upon us. Only R’hllor can end it. We must give him an unbeliever.”
“Half my army is made up of unbelievers,” Stannis had replied. “I will have no burnings. Pray harder.

But tbh, if Stannis had two choices and was convinced that there were none others, which one would he take?
      1) Don't burn his daughter, the world ends and his daughter dies anyways
      2) Burn his daughter, the world is saved, his daughter has been the greatest sacrifice Stannis has made, the one person he could still claim to know as a loved one, sacrificied in the name of the realm
