Warren Zevon - Lawyers, Guns & Money [1989]

- [Hi-Fi Mono] The initial song performed on this occasion, with the house band providing musical support for Mr. Zevon. One of his earliest "signature" songs from his long career, captured here.
Apologies for the slight hum in the signal. This was always present in the recording/broadcast, I'm afraid. - Hudba
David Sanborn's hair was.......perfect.
Great comment.
DuP!
Perfectly scary........😨
unfrozen caveman lawyer!
@@HLS6935 “Folks, I’m just a caveman. Your witty lyrics and engaging chord progressions frighten this excitable boy...”
Mr Zevon should be inducted into the rock hall of fame for this song alone....make it so.
like Little Feat Warren is too niche for the R&R hall. But ultimately deserving.
@@jackmalvern2394but some how they got room for c rap
@@jfs7327
Yeah. 🙄
he is the very essence of rock and roll
Naw the R&R hall could in no way fit this man in to it's paltry hall. Warren Zevon was on another level. It would demean him to suggest he had only obtained "POP" status!
Arguably one of America's most overlooked songwriters....he was just an excitable boy. Love you, man.
You arent kidding I asked a supposed dead head she didnt know lol...I asked a guy who was latr 50s and he didnt know. But when ppl do find him wow game over.
He was Canadian but he was amazing!
Perhaps the best opening lyric of any song.....
glad to know people are still paying tribute to this awesome artist !
No argument here
I saw a saxophone player and his hair was perfect
🤣🤣🤣
LOL
But it wasn't Dave's. OMG! 😱
Warren was one of those musicians you either got or you didn’t…I definitely got him, great songwriter 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
When you had bucks like Tyson in s_ght
This is what I came back to after the sad news of David Sanborn's passing. I am already a Zevon fanatic, but David's sax brings a sexier edge to this song, as if it wasn't already sexy in a rocking way. Rest in Peace to two talents. May they perform an encore of this in Heaven.
Same here.
Yep, as soon as I heard about David's passing, I remembered that Warren ( one of my favourite artists ever ) had done some cool live appearances on his show .. Like you, I went straight to this video .. What a terrific version .. RIP to both these great artists
"Send lawyers, guns and money" - could there ever be a better line - "the shit has hit the fan". You've got to be on his side
I'm surprised they didn't bleep it out for TV.
@@MisterMikeTexas That was before the infamous "wardrobe malfunction." Besides, the radio stations bleep stuff so as not to offend the advertisers, and they bleep a great deal more than the FCC cares about.
" how was I to know...she was with the Russians too'
And, " Dad, Get me out of this!"
Of course we're on his side, he's a innocent bystander.
It's been almost 20 years since his passing. Wow. Hasten down the wind, Warren.
Yes and 20 years closer to our own.
I too just realized this the other day. I truly couldn't believe it's been that long.
💐
His last record was perfect!
@@imaseeker100I don’t haste to say you’re right
No one could afford that band today if they were still all alive. Omar Hakim on drums. David Sanborn on sax. Don Alias on percussion. Hiram Bullock on guitar. That's a scary bunch!
amazing musicians!
Straight facts
Steve Martin's Dad on percussion.
who's on Bass? That's a DOPE tone.
👏👏👏
Had to stop by and revisit this, we all never knew that the the Masterpiece that is "Lawyers, Guns and Money" could be improved, but David Sanborn's Sax takes it to another level. May they both Rest Peacefully.
I never knew I wanted to hear Lawyers, Guns and Money with a wild sax accompaniment but hell, it was damn good.
absolutely right - and by David Sanborn no less. always enjoy that Sanborn can lead a group or a tune, or step back and just be happy being a supporting player in a band ...
Warren’s last interview with Letterman was haunting
I looked up the original after I heard this and was like …oh no where is the sax?! Hahah
There is a clip from another episode of this show: Sonny Rollins wailing to Who By Fire by Leonard Cohen. Mind blowing
@@Scottlp2 Thanks!
As everybody says ...under-rated songwriter. But don't forget his voice! So strong, unique and distinctive.....oh, and of course, his sense of humour. I was lucky to see him at a dive in Adelaide, South Australia. No band. Just him with Guitar and Piano. Fantastic.
He belongs in the R&R HOF. Period!
No pucking shit !!!! But it's a little late ,his ride done left but we know
Zevon was a genius, 99.9% of people just only realised it after he left us (me included)
He did a show at the train station in South Boston, and I heard about it but was a stupid kid at the time and I didn’t appreciate like I do now. It’s on CZcams and I appreciate now
Sadly, me as well.
@@OvertheHIL524 Yeah me too
My first memory of WZ was when he came to Australia in 1978 to promote " Werewolves of London" and then about 10 years later WZ brought out "Splendid Isolation " . Years later I would wear out two Best of WZ songs CD . A great singer / songwriter
A clever wit and songwriter. Genius? No.
The Sax makes things really pop for this song. Thanks for posting.
What a backup band. Omar Hakim, Don Alias, Tom Barney, Sanborn, Hiram Bullock... I also noticed Phillipe Saisse on the keys. Wow. Full strength.
Agreed, what an all star band! Who is that other guitarist? Don’t recognize him
Sorry, but I thought the sax was stepping on his vocals now and then.
@@loondoo probably from his touring band.
Wants to sing the Hell up then.
His songs have an emotional urgency with a driving rhythm. Recognizable style that is still valid and valuable to this day. One of the best songwriters.
Absolutely. I feel most with Warren when my anxiety disorder flared up - body tightness, extreme irritabilit. Makes sense bc he had severe OCD
I miss the days when a plethora of shows like this competed with each other to bring out amazing musical geniuses who very often turned out to have very little common sense and not great survival skills. You Tube has opened the door to a past that many of us almost forgot existed. They were truly better and more innocent times. My humbleThanks.
Such an incredible song and performance. I miss Warren so much. RIP.
Warren in ways (brilliant of course) was a little ahead of his time. The World misses him God.
Omar on drums, everyone in pocket. Grateful to be able to listen here, since we couldn’t be there.
Don Alias on the Percussion too!
Possibly one of the greatest songs of all time! The best line is "Dad get me out of this!". Fantastic!
Up there with Tom Waits, and John Prine in the rarified air of amazing singer songwriters.
Agree totally. I was unfortunate enough to get into him and John after they both passed away. If you want a killer cover version of this check out Widespread Panic Nola 2000.
John Prine is so far ahead of the other ones, he’s not even in the same galaxy
Awesome comment mentioning the people I miss hearing their music the most. Now that I am retired I have the time to listen, remember and still learn from these exceptional musicians
What a surprise to see this: Omar Hakim on drums and Bernard Edwards on bass!? Warren Zevon with the Chic rhythm section; most talented people of the planet together!! Have fun somewhere in heaven Warren and Bernard.
Peter, that's Tom Barney on bass
Thanks! I was hoping someone would post, I really wanted to know who those guys were
I thought that was Omar; thanks. And you got Hiram Bullock on guitar. Would have paid good money to see these guys play a set together.
Yes! Was gonna mention Hiriam Bullock (RIP) on the guitars! Whet a band!
@@LucasPenido +1. Yes, Hiram Bullock, RIP !
RIP David Sanborn, 5/13/24... you made great music, contributed to many other classic groups, and you made sure people could enjoy it!
Never, ever, ever heard this song with the big sax until I somehow ran across this version. And I must say, it works.
Warren was 1 of a kind. Truly an amazing Artist R.I.P. Mr.Zevon
Saw Warren in concert more than I saw any other artist. Saw him with full bands and solo. Always entertaining. Great songwriter. And, gotta say, what a tight band.
Brilliant. There's not much else to say. A life lead fully and at the end well thought of.
See a doctor if you're feeling bad. It's not a sign of weakness.
he had cleaned his act up and was exercising and one time playing a show he lost his breath and went to the doctor just 20 years too late.
Saved me.
Loved your music for over 40 years Warren. RIP
Great song from a great singer, great songwriter, great musician and great entertainer. He is sorely missed.
amazing.... RIP warren... I loved this version.... my neighbors didnt..LOL......may you sing with the rockers in heaven.. FOREVER!
I just heard that David Sanborn passed and I this was the first thing that came to mind. RIP
Jesus Christ this man deserves more praise and kudos from the music world. True genius but hilariously funny too. Read his wife’s book. You won’t be sorry.
Sublime Master. RIP
yes sir ! and you can tell ....he dont feel good here ...
you can tell ...he dont feel well here .! he was 1 of the gud 1s !!!!!
Warren died of mesothelioma just like my dad did.
@@walliegirl2From Dublin here, very sorry to hear that.
Always an instant emotional and physical engagement with this guys music, instant!
that’s what I call a well rehearsed band, fuck’n outrageous, zevon rules
The drum sound is insane!
@@antiv +1. My ear caught the drummer in the "Television" mix too; nicely done. .. It was through the 1970s when TV broadcasters took notice of audio,, equipping NBC 30 Rock with Neve consoles and the like. .. RIP W. Zevon.
When music was music made by musicians without quantization. Thank You Warren!
dude i don't even know what quantization is and don't care to find out but i agree music should be made by musicians
And groovin was groovin! 😉
I managed to spend some time with Warren in Hilton Head Island. He was kind, funny and scary. Needless to say I owe him a great debt. His music never failed to guide me to somewhere eerily wonderful.
Nice
Were you trying to marry him? Ya d-d-d-dang varmint...
Could you give us a little more details?
Scary?!? More info needed! 😃

Absolutely brilliant talented man !!!!!!! In my opinion was very very underrated.👍👍👍👍👍👍
Whoever these people are they are all perfect. I enjoyed that immensely.
the drummer was having so much fun
So much power, between the lyrics the sax and drums
My uncle was a DJ on a college rock show and I tagged along, he played this from his own collection, was a fan ever since-1978 around-had every album and saw him live on the Detox tour in Chicago
"...the shit has hit the fan" WZ is missed.✌
+1.. Oh that Warren Zevon tune is killer! .. The complete album to boot. RIP Mr. Zevon .....
I only heard of Warren Zevon when Werewolves Of London was regular play on radio, I went and picked up the album, finding so much more. I've been a fan since. I didn't know that he was ill until Letterman. He seemed to have been such a down to earth and humble man. A true American artist.
It's best with Zevon to enjoy the music but not delve too deeply into the man behind it.
Got into Warren late n life...Damn, I wished I could've seen him live. RIP Roland
I love this song so much!
Another artist who was too awesome for this world. He got drafted to a better one.
YEAH HE IS UP THEIR,WITH ALL THE GREATS,JAMMING AWAY,R.I.P. WARREN ZEVONS.Walter B.Memphis.
Makes me glad to see a whole band enjoying themselves. Even David Sanborn was smiling in Awe at the late great Warren Zevon.
SIMPLY FANTASTIC, R.I.P.WARREN ZEVON,GREAT,LEGENDARY GENIUS. Walter B.Memphis.
great tune our national anthem could be called lawyers guns and money anymore lol
This show was the greatest thing on tv. So many excellent moments of musical fusion, this performance included.
What show is it looks 80s or early 90s
@@greatfullytwisted7431 Night Music, late 80’s. Like 88-9 or so.
One of my best friends and I loved this song as one of our favorites. He’s been gone now for almost 4 years and I miss him dearly. He lived mostly in Arizona and me in Ohio but whenever this song came on on the radio we would call each other and BLAST it no matter what time day or night! God I miss that special bond! RIP Johnny!
Just purchased a new pistol today....posted a picture with the gun, money but didn't have a lawyer to show.....great song!
Just excellent. Man was a great talent.
Genius. Pure Genius. Warren had Neil Young play lead guitar on “Sentimental Hygiene.” Left us waaay too soon.
So damn good 👍 😎
Love David Sanborn
And yes, the backup band was phenomenal as well
Thanks for sharing
Yes..the most underrated rock guy
The great Warren Zevon! A songwriter's songwriter.
Criminal that he’s not in the R&R HOF
That place is a joke. Glad he isn't there.
Criminally underrated song!
This guy was a musical genius.
Easily one of the greatest music tv programs of ALL TIMES! Sanborn, THANK YOU!
Made to be played LOUD!!!! RIP Warren!
Warren Zevon ist the most underrated Musician ever. First time I heard him in 1982 and since that day I´m a Fan. R.I.P. Dear Warren.
great show .. this was fun and entertaining!
Saw him twice at the Vogue in Indy. I miss his voice.
Omar Hakim? Wow … so 1989. Such a rockin’ tune!
I teach college English to music industry majors in Philly.
Warren’s wordsmithing warrants Hall of Fame recognition.
And his rhythm.
Warren was a musical genius..loved the album sentimental hygiene when it came out and still do dammit !!!
Love this band. The bass is great. Drummer too.
Great performance. I LOVED this bloody show.
Warren Zevon was such a interesting, talented, monster of rock. He needs to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I'm shocked that he isn't already in it. Somewhere, in the afterlife, there's a band needing an old time ivory tickler with a wicked sense for twisted storytelling.... Loved his final album, the Wind. Keep Me In Your Heart is one of a group of songs that I want played during my wake. Miss him a bunch.
I remember watching this show back in the day. What a great show. This episode rocks.
"I went home with a waitress, the way I always do." My all time, number one favorite line in rock and roll. When I was a young man I had a thing for women in uniforms of any sort.
You still do, it's just scrubs now
@@ramonmoreno8014 Clever boy! 🤣

i was wandering around austin texas in the early 80s trying to figure out who i was when i first heard this song......some how it helped me to get my bearings.....still have three cassettes of warren.....always loved his tunes and he seemed like a totally nice guy.....sanborn could wail also
I miss Warren Zevon. Many years ago he played in St Petersburg, Fl , downtown Detroit Hotel , standing room only . I found I was next to his piano getting pushed here and there by the packed room. ( Can’t believe the Fire Marshal didn’t bust the place. ) Warren had a drink and a cigarette in his hand his entire performance, but oh what a performance! So talented!
It's like a Graham Greene novel set to music. Genius.
The man's a freaking genius by all accounts and let's face it kids who hasn't said dad get me out of this at one point in their life
Just love an ode to men without countries. Another hymn for adventurers
WZ is a national treasure!
Man I really miss Warren.
Great rendition of the tune. Perfect bit of 80s influence to it I think. Sanborn is a dude. RIP Zevon, what a musical force.

Welcome to the R&R Hall of Fame Warren!
Anthony Bourdain on congas, and Puff Daddy on bass. 480p forever.

What a great rock voice.
O these musicians are engaged and euphoric about their own interpretations and virtuosity living within this song.
Terrific version. Has that present-day Waddy Wachtel look going here.
