    Dennis, When I was searching for a review on this reel and saw you had done one I was very interested in your thoughts. You strike me as someone who we can trust and has the experience to give a rock solid review. I've seen several of your videos over time and I think you're the best in the business. Plus you take the time to read comments and respond as needed. That's an amazing quality. I use your video on how to disassemble a Battle ll 6000 reel each time I clean and lube it. I look forward to more videos in the future. Perhaps something on disassemble and clean my Diawa BG 6500. Oh,,, and thank you for the first responders shout out. We need the occasional support now more than ever.

      Thank you for all you do as a first responder and for the kind words of encouragement. I try to do my best to pass along what I know. I have not done the BG 6500. I use the reels that come into my shop as the subject of the videos, so I haven't seen one of these in a while. I will add it to my request list and do a video when one comes in. Thanks again - Dennis

    Always enjoy Dennis’s videos. I have dozens of classic reels which I appreciate for their design and quality materials. However, I purchased two Runcl reels this year (one spinning, one baitcasting), and both of them have performed very well. Time will tell whether they hold up or not.

      Glad you like them! I just got a chance to evaluate one. I will be taking it fishing to see how it performs under load. Best wishes - Dennis

    I bought one of these a couple of months ago, and haven't actually used it yet.
    It seems identical to the Kast King Megatron which ive had for 2-3 years, which sees occasional use by the grandkids.
    I did replace the handle on the KK and will probably do the same with the Runcl.
    The reel seems pretty solid, but I agree with you as far as parts availability.
    I don't really think there's any scenario where it's worthwhile to have a $60 reel serviced by a shop.
    Under warranty, they'll probably just send you a replacement.
    But with the design being as simple as it is, it's easily maintained as far as cleaning and lubing.
    It'd be nice if you could also get the common wear items you mentioned; drag washers, bail springs, handle retainers & bearings.
    I guess if they made it easy to get that stuff the reels would last a long time, and they'd lose money compared to selling you a new $60 reel.
    Also agree, its nice to know the line capacity beforehand.
    My biggest complaint is the tiny handles.
    I find them very uncomfortable to use, and the cost to replace it with a better handle raises your investment to Penn Fierce territory.
    Most of the reels i buy are Penns for all the reasons I'm not in love with the Runcl and KK.

      Well said. There is a disposable mentality that the manufacturers have created and fostered. I don't like it.

    Same as KastKing sharky 3. I have a 4000 and 6000 the handle flexes like a pool noodle!! Smooth as can be but my god the entire reel twists. I’ll stick with my Daiwa 70’s gx60

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  Před rokem

      Point made! Those classic metal body reels certainly limit flex. The downside is the weight of the reel. Give and take - Thanks

  • @l.i.archer5379
    @l.i.archer5379 Před rokem

    The RUNCL spinning reel I bought came with no spool shims to fix line lay. I had to take one from a Daiwa that came in the box. After that, I got a weird hiccup in the oscillation that put more line on one side at the bottom of the spool . I won't be buying anymore reels from them. If I want a "cheap, disposable" reel, I'll get a KastKing. The best KastKing reel I bought so far is the Kapstan Elite 3000-size (fully sealed IPX6 rated) waterproof reel with an all-metal body. I will be putting that reel to the test in the next 2 weeks fishing for Blackfish (Tautog).

      @@2ndChanceTackle they did reply, but on a different issue I had with the reel. The lower skirt on the spool is stamped with their design, but those edges are sharp!!! If you run your finger across them, you can feel their capability to cut you. They offered to send me another spool, but I told them I don't want it if it's going to be the same thing I have now. Told them I'll just take a file to those cut-outs.

  • @christopherjenkins2373

    You can probably guess my opinion of this reel. I wouldn’t buy it for exactly the reason you mention - parts and support. Also I have doubts about the quality of the materials used in this reel and just how long it would last! I have so many reels that are anywhere from 40 to almost 70 years old that I know will last because they already have. Nice to see one of these reels with so many ball bearings and so much total drag taken apart and evaluated. Thanks for doing this. I got the Abu Garcia center drag reel today. It is very impressive and supper smooth. I picked up my second SpinMaster Pro Series V reel for $10.00 a couple days ago. It is an Ohmori reel but as always buyer beware especially when the price is so low. We’ll just have to see it when it comes. The external appearance of any reel is no guarantee as to what’s inside.

      Im always mystified by all these claims
      of max drag. If this reel states it has
      44 lbs of drag it means you mount in a
      rod, lock the drag, tie the line to a 44
      lb weight and lift it. I dont see that
      happening. A Penn 16/0 I dont think
      has 44 lbs of max drag. Protective
      coating? Leery of that too. My 65 year
      old Luxor has a protrective coating
      that will last another 65 years. They
      do need more ball bearings though.
      Ball bearings=quality. Everyone knows
      that. Plus I cant be winching anythjng
      with less than 20 ball bearings. What am
      I, King Kong?

      Thanks again Armando. I think that max drag number is correct based on all of those carbon fiber washers in there. Now whether or not you would want to lift a 40 pound fish with only a 10 ball bearing reel is another question - :). Dennis

    The schematic not having part numbers indicates to me that like a lot of casual fishermen who buy in this market segment, Runcl also considers these to be disposable reels.

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  Před 3 lety

      That would be a good assumption. An ambiguous warranty with lifetime coverage except for normal wear and tear and without a place to buy those wear and tear replacement parts - Thanks

  • @richardsurber7928

    The stem from the foot to the body seems fairly thin and the hollow cut makes me sceptical on strength, especially if drag numbers are high.

    How would you change the handle knob on that Runcl Titan 5000?

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  Před 2 lety

      I think that handle is peened on and that you would need to drill out the handle from th backside of the knob. I don't remember the exact set up. The circle ring on the face of the knob may be removable?? if it is, there may be a screw underneath. If you have the schematic for the reel, that will show if the knob is replacemable. You can also call Runkl and ask them if it can be cone or if they have a power knob set up for that reel. You can find the contact information at runnel.com - Dennis

      The handle was peened on and did need to be drilled.

    Freaking handle snapped after using it 3 times.. it's not aluminum. Only half of the handle is aluminum the other half is plastic. It would be a decent reel it if was built tougher but it ain't..
