  • We’re getting closer and closer to a generation where Madden is the only football game that they’ll remember playing and that’s terrible, so today I’m going to talk about All-Pro Football 2K8 experiment.

      Never gonna happen. The game would have to be built from the ground up to get current with the times. It would cost a ton to develop and they wouldn't be able to sell enough to make a profit. Additionally, the game would only sell for $20-$30 max because no one would pay $60 for it over Madden.

      Jeremy Jefferson Then why is it that Adis Football gets better every year and have a team of like 6 ppl and a tiny budget?
      It’s def possible! They can easily buy an engine and build off of that or build off of their old engine and create a new engine using the old engine as a foundation.
      I doubt 2k will ever do it again but I think within a year or two we will see Axis rival Madden like 2k did but without NFL license or I predict we’ll see an AAF game or an XFL game if they succeed but we def need another game like 2k8

    Tbh the fact that 2 gold , 3 silvers , and 6 bronze players can be used on either side of the ball .the game was so great especially with the gameplay . Every team has a weakness and strengths depending on how you built your team . APF 2k8 was very balanced and if you was playing online or user to user , it required you to think . Not every glitch play worked every single time . Not every trick play worked in every single time and I think APF 2k8 is the best on-field football game ever. Even better than 2k5 . With so many football players retiring T.O , Randy Moss , Ed Reed , Peyton Manning , etc .... I honestly don't see why they can't make another APF game

    • @NYG5
      @NYG5 Před 5 lety

      I wouldn't say every team was balanced, the game certainly favored certain team builds, especially for skilled positions. It disrespects linemen a lot.

    • @SchulzEricT
      @SchulzEricT Před 5 lety +1

      I appreciate the idea, but he's right that there should've been a way to unlock new builds.
      I like to create a player for myself to play as, so the skills for created players were lame (1 for bronze, 2 for silver, 3 for gold - should've been 2, 3, 5, respectively... there were some bronze with 5, why can't my created at least have fucking 2?), and to restrict yourself to one specific team build as well... I don't know what the solution should've been. Unlockables, maybe? Maybe you have to win the championship to unlock a higher, better team. Maybe you start with just 3 silver and 8 bronze, then unlock the 2, 3, 6... then 3, 4, 4, then 5, 5, 1... something like that.

  • @CorneliusBrutus
    @CorneliusBrutus Před 6 lety +20

    Still one of my favorite games ever. Loved trying out different team builds and seeing how they would play (who would take a gold cornerback? Me, at least once). Wish Madden had something more like this. MUT is along those lines, but you have less control over the specific upgrades you get, more like "your team is constantly getting better", not like making compromises and choices in team building. Also introduced me to a ton of players before my time, I would watch CZcams highlights of Earl Campbell and Randal Cunningham for hours after playing with them in the game.
    I think the main takeaway for any non-licensed football game -- teams and players have to have an intrinsic character and personality. The distinct skillsets of each player meant they all felt unique, even if they had a similar base. Generated players can't just be piles of stats: they need strengths, weaknesses, personality quirks, backstories, etc. something like a Darkest Dungeon/X-Com approach to storytelling.

    I really enjoyed All-Pro Football 2K8. What I like about this game is that you can customize uniforms on the teams and I made them have the same colors and uniform templates as USFL and college football teams (i.e. I made the Miami Cyclones wear Miami Hurricanes colors, Tampa Bay Top Gun with Tampa Bay Bandit colors, Minnesota Werewolves with Golden Gopher colors, Dallas Gunslingers in San Antonio Gunslinger colors, etc.

    Some Notes/Further explanations: Hey y'all. I want to clear something up. For the modding and hex-editing part I put "Would not recommend" when I should have put could not recommend. I wasn't trying to say not to explore it/find someone who can do it. Not what I meant. I was saying that I couldn't recommend it because I've never done it and I didn't want to advocate something I've never done with this game. Sorry for the confusion y'all.
    In terms of EA getting the NFL license, it's because the league put the license up for bid and EA won over a few competitors. In the video, I was talking about why EA would want to blow companies out of the water without being specific on how they did it. My bad.

    A football game, but with a stupid, yet weird twist. A single franchise mode where there's a college rank and pro rank. From here a set of custom rules for each league with rounds per draft,playoff, bowl/postseason college games,season length, cap room, scholarship limits, roster limits per league and if they want to implement different OT, catch and tackle rules. Customization for both leagues, recruiting for college, scouting for the pros. The ability for college coaches to get picked up by pro teams or fired and sent to either find a new job in the pros or college like Jim Harbaugh. Love to have an absurd amount of customization slots for teams and stadium builders. Also a sort of singular superstar mode where you could walk-on to a college team you created and play it up to the pros. Would love to get Nike,Addidas,UA,Puma and such for player customization. Also a stat tracking system for the mode(that'll include teams player was previously on), year end rankings of players, All-pro, All-American, and best player at position awards. Also the ability for mod support on console to fix up or implement things, weekly updates to game tuning and no Ultimate team mode to take away from the real big part of replay ability for the game. Finally a squad up system like Fifa has with pro clubs or NBA 2k with pro-am to create a team with friends and play other players teams online. If there's any way a game developer could do this game I laid in my head I'd be surprised.

      The idea for 1 was really good, although the graphics are so old it's hard to play.
      2 was even better, IMO, especially with how they built on the story from the first (having those rookies from 1 be established players, having the captains aged - Kwazi Mbutabe is fucking awesome, love how he was still churning out yards later in his career); be cool if they tweaked some things to improve 2 and make that 3.
      My suggestions:
      A few cosmetic things, so maybe not that big a deal, but:
      1 - Your player's voice was really... like, he made a choice, you know? Which, if you made your character from, say, Texas... not really the right accent. A few options would've been nice, or maybe something a bit more generic?
      2 - Not that it mattered in game, but... 6'2" 180 lbs? A 6'2" 180 lb TE/LB is insane. Also, I saw him: he wasn't 6'2" 180 lb. Let you pick, right? (Or at least a specific height weight for all positions... even if you're going to go with only one height/weight no matter what... would've 6'3" 230 be at least reasonable for any build? A bit tall for a HB, big for a CB... but not unreasonably so, considering he's a two-sport, 1st overall pick type of athlete.)
      3 - It would be cool to merge the team aspect of 1 and player aspect of 2 and go for a game based around 2-player co-op: you get the 1st overall pick and get a superstar, then you or your buddy can also be a star in the 2nd round (or maybe you have two top-20 picks because you traded back last year, something like that?), so you can create *two* (one-way) players to build your team around, and this way you can go offense/offense or defense/defense.
      You could be a QB with your buddy catching passes from you as a WR or TE, or compliment each other with QB and HB... or both are punishing LBs... whatever.
      I played 2 with a buddy, and he was the HB and I was the LB... but it was the same person. Would've been cool to have had some ability to customize Franchise a bit, and to have one for each of us.
      Also... even if there's no story past year 3, you should be able to play out his whole career (and season stats shouldn't disappear after you move up, you should have player cards for team and player stats season-by-season).

That's just my opinion that they look awesome though. These are just few examples that i can't stand about newer maddens

    I have a question, can you challenge a referee's call on APF2k8 as you can in madden?.

    • @jeremywj
      @jeremywj Před 5 lety +6

      Yes, you could challenge plays. It was actually much better than madden imo in this respect. Every game was full of close calls, such as 1st down or short, in or out of bounds, fumble or not, interception or not, complete catch or not, etc. You really had to choose wisely when to use your challenges.
      Also, unlike madden, basically every play could be challenged. For example, if on a 1st and 30 you threw the ball for a completed pass and they marked it as a 16 yard gain, but you thought you weren't down until 17 yards... you could challenge... and you know what, sometimes you would get a few extra feet or another yard, etc.
      When you did challenge the refs would got to the booth and the commentators would show a replay you could watch. Many times you really had no idea what the final call would be until the refs announced it because the plays were just so close.
      During online games players would often no huddle on close calls that went their way on offense so the "tv replay" wouldn't show while picking plays. If a player paused the game and watched the replay in the pause menu they would lose the ability to challenge. This created a good number of should I or shouldn't I challenge moments on defense when playing online.
      Final note: I probably banged my controller on the floor a few too many times playing APF 2K8 because I lost a game due to not having any challenges left. Frustrating at the time, but again, it made the game that much more fun.
      Speaking of online play, it was also better than madden in the respect that you actually had penalties online. I never see pass interference, holding, or other calls of that nature online in madden. The only penalties I see online in madden are offsides, jumping, delay of game, and kickoff out of bounds.

    • @gwa3526
      @gwa3526 Před 5 lety +3

      and it wasnt just that you were able to challenge but that you could decide what to challenge. Did the pass hit the ground, was the spot incorrect, etc.
      Waaaay better than half assed madden when you only can select to challenge play and then after 2 random camera angle replays you get the same ref animation.

    Your points have merit but I believe that they are misplaced.
    So what do I mean can I give you? Ok, first while this game is lacking to say that it is simply a stripped-down version of to 2K5 is to deny it the amazing achievements it established in total. I mean physics overhaul ball physicsover 1,500 individual animations and a brand new animation combination system to seamlessly go from one animation to another without the janky orc and animations that we hate getting locked into.there is an absolute perception of weight and it's felt both in the setting of your players feet and the momentum carried through a clean hit.
    this game was also released and truehd which means on the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 it natively presented itself at 720P! Whereas to 2k5 is 480P.
    And above all I want to address your statement regarding Madden's point system and how you measure it to All Pro Football to 2k8's medal system.
    visceral concepts decision to use this instead of points was not because they did not have enough players in the games roster it was because a point system is the cheapest way of balancing any type of game know this game would be balanced based off of its huge library of over 150 individual perks and moves that would be given liberally to each increasing metal level.and this would in turn be limited by the number of metals players you can have on any one team.
    so a points value system says a player is good the higher his value this system valued players based off of the way you played the game did you want a deion Sanders and Jerry Rice or did you want a Barry Sanders and Walter Payton?
    So while I agree with your generalconsensus I take into question and replace with fact several of your statements.

    It's a shame because this is one of the best football simulations of all time (better than 2K5 in my opinion), but without that license it was doomed. It also pushed Madden to do better resulting in the excellent Madden 08. Now Madden just stagnates and degenerates and the NFL doesn't care because people keep buying Madden.

    Doug fluity’s Maximum football...the game has so much promise! The graphics aren’t bad and the create a team is good. You can make your own logos or use the 100 something generic ones they have. And you can customize every player on the team they have a season mode will n shit....the gameplay is a lil rough but the 2020 game coming out in like 3 months is gonna be epic. They got create your own plays n shit....
