- So here's another upload before the New Year. Apologies that it's not particularly Christmas themed, but I decided to cover something from one of my favourite games. Although Gold/Silver was my first introduction to Pókemon, Ruby was a huge part of my childhood and I can't help but feel nostalgic every time I listen to Littleroot Town.

This song is almost uncomfortable to listen to. I was eight years old when Ruby came out. I remember playing the demo at Toys R Us, not even really understanding what this new adventure in Pokémon would be. My life was a lot easier then. I am 30 now, living again with my parents after rehab, alcoholism, broken heart, smoking way too many cigarettes. I was just a kid then, making little forts out of rocks for the bugs, playing fetch with the dog. I loved reading my astronomy books, laying out in the grass looking at the stars with the cat. Quiet moments, gentle moments. All the troubles of the world seemed so far away.
My youngest sister is only ten. She doesn't get it. Maybe her generation never will. They may never look back on the feeling of brushing off your hands after climbing a tree, because they never really got that. My dad was born in the 50s. Listening to his adventures really puts it in perspective, and I see why old people talk so much about their generation. My generation just had the scraps. I feel sorrier for my sister than my dad, because all she has is a tablet. As a get older, fatter, more tired, I feel like I grow more innocent. I just don't want to be jaded by the anger and frustration of my family and this insane world, even though I myself am probably more angry and frustrated than I need to be.
But I did have LIttleroot Town, and that little virtual adventure with Torchic and shiny Zubat.
