      I now know it's because my name is Joel that people tell me to "get out of your parent's basement" because random people tell me that often when I express a thought or opinion. It isn't because my last name is Anderson because "Lawson" is also Norwegian. I wish I was Jewish with a name like Joel but what's with the random shit talking? to be fair I have nothing against people who live in their parent's basement either judging by how our economy is going I can't blame them...

    Couldn't agree more. A few years ago when I was still doing security I was on patrol and came around a corner to see some a-holes tagging one of our vehicles, one took off but the other thought he was hard and started approaching in a threatening manner. I had a P7 Led lenzer with me and shone it in his face and kept it trained there. He still kept approaching like the hard man he thought he was but eventually gave up, no point fighting if your blind, he took off blindly climbed a barbed wire fence, fell HARD on the other side and limped away

    Great stuff, as always. In my life I have met quite a few famous people. And, famous or not so famous, I always ask them what their "essential carry" is. That is not the same as their EDC. Rather, it is something - save being in bed or in the bath/shower - that they would never be without.
    I used to work for Baroness Thatcher and, of course, I asked her this same question. She answered it instantly: "I always carry a torch. Never go anywhere without one." Then she explained why. For she was once in a hotel bedroom, in Brighton as it happens, when a bomb, planted a year-or-so earlier behind some bath tiles in a nearby room, exploded on 12th October 1984.. The explosion resultant explosion was intended to kill her. Fortunately for her, she was coming in/out of the bathroom (I forget which) at the time and all was well. However, she was immediately plunged into darkness. From that moment onward she always carried a torch.
    I, naturally, took her advice.

    Yes, high powered lumen flashlight but also important…… with a powerful strobe light to blind, disorient, and incapacitate any assailant.
    My present EDC light is a small, tactical Manker Striker Luminus SFT 40 with 2,300 lumens out, plus strobe.
    That will leave any assailant stunned.

  • @followjesus1647
    @followjesus1647 Před 6 lety +5

    I 1000% agree. I always carry a very very powerful super high beam handheld flashlight that is actually medium size too small. You can buy them for as low as $20 now. Mine will shoot a straight beam 50 yards. So if you shoot it into someone's face 5 yards in front of you they totally become blinded for the next 60 Seconds, which gives you the main advantage to either run away or disable them. True story, one time I was walking to work at 3 a.m. in the morning when I was approached by 3 homeless guys who kind of started following me. I was not afraid because I'm a pretty good-sized guy myself but you never know what is in the mind of a crazy homeless guy looking for money at 3 a.m. x 3. They followed me for about 1 block and then pulled out a little tiny $2 flashlight and kind of started shining it in my direction. I stopped turned around, turn on my flashlight and blinded all three of their faces. You could actually hear them making groaning sounds and throwing their hands up in the air they were blinded for about 30 to 60 seconds and could not even see where they were walking. After that I just calmly kept walking to my job and went to work with no problems at all. So yeah for $20 it's one of the best nighttime self defense weapons. But mine is also made of heavy duty metal so the other end is almost like a hammer, if you get my point. If it ever came down to that.

      +1077mikev I'd avoid streamlight. surefire is popular. fenix is okay. I do security & decent "white lights" are hard to find. I recently got a high end streamlight & its sub-par. If you want a protection type light, keep it simple. look for a li power or recharger style with a strobe function. lights are now super bright but be aware, these small lights heat up fast. you might be surprised.

      Well, I have moved on since then. I currently have an olight warrior 3, and I like it for EDC but its definitely not the best, I wouldn't bet my life on it. This one has 2300 lumens and I think around 30k candela. Its definitely bright, also since the time I made the above comment, strobe is a waste of time in my humble opinion, you want just on and off, it has some applications sure, the strobe i mean, but not for most situations. As for companies I would go with surefire or fenix. I am eyeing the FENIX PD36R PRO currently and its actually the same price as the one I have, good reviews all round. When you do get one, I recommend watching this video. Type GBRS Group - EDC Flashlight, vid is 1:52 long
      Stay Safe.

    My EDC starts with the 5.11 Tactical pant with two knife/cellphone pockets... The weak side carries the Fenix PD35 LED flashlight. And the strong side carries the SOG Trident w/seatbelt cutter in Black TiNi that does not need to be open to be useful. The seatbelt cutter is great to cut twine on bales of hay ! Also great to have for EDC is an AM/FM/WB radio like the La Crosse 810-805 Weather Band Radio ! tjl
