    We continue our adventure in Ouray, Colorado, with our friends taking us on their favorite Jeep trails. Be sure to go back and check out the first part of our adventure in last week’s episode here: • DON’T BE A GOOGLE CREE...
    We left before sunrise (prepared with donuts and coffee, of course!) and headed up to see Yankee Boy Basin in the early morning light. Once again, we were blown away not only by the views but also by our incredible tour guides, our friends - Matt and Lisa. We learned so much about the history of these mountains, the gold and silver mines and the old towns that used to surround them. It was an incredible day of homeschooling for all of us! 😃
    After some serious rock crawling and water crossings, we headed over to the Imogene Pass and began the main part of our journey for the day. The pass was incredible and terrifying at times, but the final expanse that comes into view only when you reach the very top left us speechless! Especially the blue water of the tarn at the top of the range!
    We headed down the other side to Telluride, Colorado, for a picnic lunch and a fun suprise in the town park! A very special THANK YOU to Matt and Lisa for such an amazing adventure that we would have never attempted on our own and to the FOS Crew members who left us such a sweet gift hidden in the park!

    Southwestern Colorado is old Colorado...been exploring it since 1974 and have covered the roads/trails you are on as you made this video. The Front Range (Colorado Springs, Denver, Boulder and related ski towns on the eastern side of the divide have all been ruined by over population and liberal politics. Just north of Ouray the town of Ridgeway is where True Grit was filmed...you pass through there making your way to Telluride (named by early pioneers as To Hell You Ride as there was only one way in and out of the box canyon). Lots of neat history. Over Engineer Pass from Silverton you make your way to Lake City...an old mountain town much untouched by progress. Sure enjoyed the content...brought back a lot of memories.

      @SouPac Engineer, we've been to the True Grit barn, the snake cave (old mine entrance with movie set remnants), the shooting meadow, the campsite, and a couple other sites. It's amazing how they piece together such disparate locations in the film.

    • @polymath5119
      @polymath5119 Před 2 lety +4

      No pro tours, though that's not a bad idea for a retirement gig. Over the years we've spent a lot of time up there with fellow members of the 4x4 clubs here (we've been officers but haven't run them), and learned guiding from one of the members who was a friend before we joined. But the tour info comes from studying and taking notes from history books about the San Juans.

If I remember correctly Engineer Pass goes to 11,000 ft. We sure could have used a guide's services when I drove Engineer Pass. We were completely clueless. Airing down tires? What's that? Over the past year have watched a hundred vlogs of the passes throughout the Rockies and it's all the most beautiful place on the planet. Lived out there many years, but left for career goals. No regrets lust miss it a lot as you now know why. Nowhere else, and there have been many, has these been a place I felt so strong the pull of belonging. Gosh I loved it up there. Thanks

I think only those. So cool you had someone with so much knowledge showing you around. Hope they ask you if you were ok with heights before taking you on that drive. Some people would really freeze up doing some of that. As a Colorado native, been to Ouray many times and it never gets old. Even ice climbed in that canyon when I was in college in the late 80's. The masses of people in Yankee Boy basin now is ridiculous so I was amazed you were able to video that without too many around. That is probably why you were out so early but being in July I am still shocked you didn't seem to be to bad off. As always the photography is amazing.
