    Around 2:53, the story talks about Bertha purchased her home 18 years, paying $1000 a month in mortgage. Her mortgage payment now is double. Is she a renter or a homeowner? I'm confused as to how the bank could double her monthly.

      You know folks never tell the entire story. It’s where we are now. Mostly everything is a lie….even if it’s by omission. I’ve been a homeowner for 19 years. My mtg slightly fluctuates if my property taxes go up. It’s never been more than a $20 increase.

    What useful conclusion are we supposed to draw from this?
    Location as an isolated metric to identify cost-burdened renters is misleading to me because it suggests that those locations are particularly high. In reality, it's an indicator of earning power to rent ratio vs locations
    If the majority of lower income households live in the East Bay, then of course the East Bay will show that most folks are rent burdened even though rent is lower than other parts of the Bay.
    Put another way, SF county has a lower rent burdened than others even though rent prices are the highest... Why? Because lots of high earner tech folks live there and it skews the percentage. I'm sure other folks would like to live in SF if they wouldn't be even more rent burdened than the East Bay.

Do you know fees paid for Water connection (as high as 50K in some cases), PGE, sewer connection fee, Building permit costs, park fees, affordable fees, impact fees, school fees. These fees are more than the cost of the land for apartment buildings. Everyone looks are the end cost that consumer pays b ut the local cities are the ones who are responsible to make this no affordable. All this on top of the unfriendly policies, redtape to build new homes in bayarea
    PLEASE DO A COMPREHENSIVE NEWS ON HOW CITIES ARE MAKING THE COSTS SO HIGH.

    Big part of high rents in Oakland is that renters repeatedly vote for more property taxes for false promises of better services (like schools and transportation) that drive up the cost. They also vote for lousy politicians that waste this tax money, create costly rental requirements that drive out small landlords and help large corporate landlords, and do not enforce so called tenant protections in many cases. Doesn't make sense to complain if you vote like this.

      Rent control is such dumb idea in the state, where it is supposed to help tenants truly fight against unexpected consequences with landlord. Sadly, most of rents now take the "rent control" as blackmail to landlord in exchange for being evicted. Many of them ask for ridiculous mount of money before moving out the house. SHAME ON THEM

    I heard someone on tv in the 80s say that you should not pay more than one third of income for housing, so I started just watching rent prices and seen it double then triple and beyond in Florida. I watched in Florida as we went from no or few homeless to thousands of homeless. Its a math problem and a greed problem.

    • @heyaisdabomb
      @heyaisdabomb Před 4 měsíci

      It's simply math. If someone makes millions per year, that money comes from somewhere, mainly the middle and lower class. Crony capitalism where the rich pay little to no taxes while the middle class is taxed into the poor house. This isn't sustainable, we used to have a middle out economy, where the middle 50% drove the economy, but today, it's driven by the top 30% thanks to the failed system of trickle down economics, which is clearly not working. Both parties are controlled by the rich, so we're screwed.
