Clear step by step instructions. Made a potentially difficult and costly repair easy. My ignition now starts first time every time. Thanks very much.

Absolutely brilliant. Thank you. Saved me a load of time trying to figure out how to remove the switch. I just hope that the new switch has sorted my problem

Thanks! This was the problem with a family member's car, and your video helped.
Didn't buy a new swtich however, as the issue is the wear in the plastic where it rotates. I put some electrical tape in the hole to make it wrap around the metal thingy that sits in there, to make a more tight fit. And it worked very good!

Thanks a lot for showing us how to change the ignition switch. I changed it today in my Micra K12 (my steering wheel is on the left). Was a bit difficult but I finally got it!!

Good video. As a further note to others...... I discovered a way to get to the two screws on the switch more easily. To the right of the ignition, on the Sport+ model, there is a piece of trim with a couple of switches and a little pocket. This comes out easily, thus enabling you to get a screwdriver in the right place to remove ignition switch.

I knew the ignition switch was on its way out and after watching this video i bought a replacement switch (and angled needle nose pliers) ready for when it did finally go (ebay £12.99 switch. Amazon £7 pound pliers). My top screw was hampered by the plate that releases and clamps when you adjust the steering wheel. Anyway as soon as both screws had a couple of turns on them I was able to get a finger from each hand in and spin the screws out. If you remove the switch panel to the right where the wing mirror switch is you can get round the back and with the right size scew driver get to that top screw. I only realised this when putting the screws back in but managed to fasten the top screw with an old small screwdriver that had a broken handle not ideal but easier than putting screw back in with pliers. Took me 1 hour 30. Good luck anyone trying this, fiddly but doable.

As the back screw is not accessible, I pulled the plug from the back, and exposed the red and white wires. Splicing a suitable push switch across these two wires means the switch will operate the starter, but only when ignition is turned on. The switch is mounted on the dashboard beside the headlamp height adjuster. Works every time - problem solved!

This worked for our 55 plate micra 👍👍👍 great video! Just had to buy the long angled pliers but I’ve got them in my tool bag for future… too tip to rough up the screw with mole grips before reassembly.

Just done the job with a very long cross head screw driver up from the footwell.
It took longer to take the surround off and replace than to change the switch

    • @johnackers6311
      @johnackers6311 Před rokem

Think this is the best approach. I used 6" long screwdriver and I reckon an 8" screwdriver with a narrow handle would have been easier. The handle was hitting the steering column.

Great video, just finished the job took me about 30 min, cost of "ignition cube" 22€ with delivery from eBay. It is easier than it looks,
    and car now working perfect.
And if your hands are slim enough, you can manage it only with screwdriver, as I did.
    Thanks.

Thanks for this video! I just spent 2 hours sorting mine, it's done! ( And I'm a not particularly practical woman!)
It would have been quicker if I didn't lose one of those tiny screws and have to hunt high and low in local shops to find a replacement! Don't drop it! They aren't very common!
I didn't have long nose pliers, so took off a bit that also covered fuses on right which just gave me space to get a tiny screwdriver in place
Grazed and cut fingers and knuckles though..

Just did this took me about 2,5 hours. On my car the steering wheel position lock was in the way of the back screw. You can remove the steering wheel position switch nut and clamps from the right side(not lever side) this gives a bit more room to remove the back screw. Made it much easier for me :)

  • @watchesgadgetsandstuff

    Just did this.
One point that might make someone's life easier - just remove the starter key barrel altogether.
It is held to the steering column with one bracket and 2 flat head screws - undo those while supporting it (it is heavy).
After you detach it pull it aside just enough so you can access the screws on the ignition switch.
Replace the switch and put the barrel back pone - should be done in about 10 minutes tops.

As an update to my comment below, I still had some stiffness and clunkiness. I had bought a second hand injection switch from eBay and suspected that the one I'd bought and fitted also had a problem (especially as it's such a common one with Micras(. So I went for it and ordered a new nissan one from nissan parts eBay shop ( £50), I fitted it in 25 mins this time and it's now perfect!
So, if anyone still has problems or if trying for first time, it's prob worth getting a new replacement rather than secondhand!

simple soloutin for this problem is get a universal start stop button which costs you around £5 and 0.70p for 2 meter wire and take it to any garage they ll charge you around £30 to put the button in thats it your problem solved .then all you do is just turn the car on and press start button and car will start.am telling you this because thats what i did when i had same issue with my ignition barrell and every one was saying get ignition barrell which i couldnot find because scrap yards dont always have them and you have to wait weeks.
