I love destruction mechanics in games so much.
@@avgastas1515 Assault rifle; a rapid-fire, magazine-fed automatic rifle designed for infantry use. Strangely, that description firs a lot of different firearms.
Charlie, as a game developer, destruction is easily one of the hardest things to do in a game. You have to create a seamless mesh voxelizer or remesher (a system of taking a 3D model and either converting it to voxels which are essentially cubes except that voxels sometimes don't have unnecessary faces to make it run faster. Or, you convert the 3D model into a different shape for the same process) Then you have to accurately remove a part of the 3D model without destroying the geometry, and also create a new 3D model of what was destroyed. Keep in mind that the geometry is represented as vertices relevant to the origin (0,0,0) of the model. So the data structure for the model that you would have to edit to remake the mesh would look like a confusing nightmare of coordinate numbers. And yeah, Some game engines may have features to do this but most of the big ones(unity, unreal, godot, etc.) do not already have this kind of system in place so you'd have to write it yourself.
yeah. i think the new ue5 has tools for it but its still really intense, especially for an action multiplayer game. if i had to guess the input buffer is because its validating all physics server-side before accepting an input so that you dont destroy something and people hang in the air. doing that with accurate rubble simulation would be insanely hard.

On the input lag, I haven't tried it but sounds like the input might be server-side. Same issue as with Halo MCC at least on PC launch, if you connected to a friend's game, your movement inputs were subject to ping. Basically your character's position is always what the server thinks: you press a key, it is sent to the server, the server sends you the changed position, and the position updates on your screen. On one hand this makes it so the exact same positions that are "canon" to the server are shown on everyone's screen. Although, most games simulate the movement on the client side, so there is no delay for your own movements. This introduces a whole lot of additional lag compensation, though, so it's not trivial. As someone who's working on network code, I can explain the input lag. The developers should implement a client-side predictive model like in rocket league to maintain server side physics but allow for responsive input feedback.

Often times, the player just happened to flick their mouse to face you, and that input reached the server before your input, but doesnt show on your screen yet. This effect also happens in the reverse so its fair enough I think
This actually looks amazing once the movement is polished. I'm with Charlie, no idea why games just kind of dropped destructive terrain, growing up and seeing how Battlefield handled it I really thought more and more destructive enviroments was going to be the future of gaming but it just got kind of dropped by any AAA company and is now just a niche feature in small indie games
They need to put a window that allows you to cancel active frames into other animations like Jumps or sprints and knifing similar to COD or Battlefield. That's a super important mechanic for arena-style shooters. I like this game, but if it's trying to be fast-paced & you can't cancel animations it's going to fall flat on it's face.
Embark Studios made this game, they're a studio founded by senior developers at EA and Dice who left just before development started on Battlefield 2042 because of the lack of creative control, they're also working on an FTP game called Arc Raiders, all 80s cassette futurism themed, can't wait to see what they make.
One of the reason why I'm sticking with Bad Company 2 after all these years, the destruction has a purpose and changes the dynamic of the level as the match goes on.
Destructible environment really is an amazing thing, and I understand that its really hard sometimes to deal with the physics of it but, i think this proves the technology has caught back up, and I hope to see a lot more of it.
I remember seeing this during those video game show in 2022. It flew off my radar until seeing Charlie playing it but in any case, im happy it not another battle royale game

Often times, the player just happened to flick their mouse to face you, and that input reached the server before your input, but doesnt show on your screen yet. This effect also happens in the reverse so its fair enough I think
I love everything charlie does, even if I normally watch let's plays
Bro the munching is crazyyy
@YeaMan bro how many of these did you write on this video.xD
@@JTeamAlpha It's a bot.
0:13 The commentator reminded of the announcer in FNAF Security Breach, especially with the backing track.
- blows a hole in the ground to avoid the turret on the stairs
- immediately tries to go up the stairs 🤣
rip, this man could've revived the hype
This is why I love Charlie. Everyone, including Sneako, is fixating on the whole debacle. Meanwhile, Charlie’s being a pro gamer😂
That 0.5 angle is amazing
They need to put a window that allows you to cancel active frames into other animations like Jumps or sprints and knifing similar to COD or Battlefield. That's a super important mechanic for arena-style shooters. I like this game, but if it's trying to be fast-paced & you can't cancel animations it's going to fall flat on it's face.
This game looks great graphically and pretty fun as well.
The fact he didnt check the game again is disappointing
Embark Studios made this game, they're a studio founded by senior developers at EA and Dice who left just before development started on Battlefield 2042 because of the lack of creative control, they're also working on an FTP game called Arc Raiders, all 80s cassette futurism themed, can't wait to see what they make.
Im glad he instantly said Culling bc thats what I immediately thought of too within the first 20 seconds
What games did you play back then to feel nostalgia from destruction?
Battlefield 4?
Red faction
One of the reason why I'm sticking with Bad Company 2 after all these years, the destruction has a purpose and changes the dynamic of the level as the match goes on.
High five, brother! I got 3000 hours in BC2.
Whenever a game tanks the bitrate so hard by its movement, I know that I am not fast enough to play the game
Mo1st saying “I got em” after all those assists is hilarious
👇 Number of Ls that Sneako took.
i love how consistent he is with uploads
@Shinymaniac Ofc
@Shinymaniac im not a bot lol
@Shinymaniac yeah im not a bot, i think im a normal human :D
Charlie: *Gets Assist
Also Charlie: “I got him”
The coin thing after you kill someone is amazing
Thank you Charlie for letting us know this game has potential
I love watching Sneako’s daddy absolutely dominate on video games
Destructible environment really is an amazing thing, and I understand that its really hard sometimes to deal with the physics of it but, i think this proves the technology has caught back up, and I hope to see a lot more of it.
I remember seeing this during those video game show in 2022. It flew off my radar until seeing Charlie playing it but in any case, im happy it not another battle royale game
You should REALLLY play this game rn its imo the best game of 2024
this game looks so fun, can't wait to play it. something original and refreshing for once.
Is it really that original? It's former DICE devs making an FPS with a focus on environmental destruction. Seems like they lack originality and are rehashing the same ideas.
Not that it's a bad thing. Looks cool. Just don't see what makes it new or creative.
@@Zack-vi7is I guess it's the execution which matters the most
@@Zack-vi7is bro, the round system is unique and creative, 3v3v3v3 every round 1 team gets eliminated until the finals, Its creative enough for not being a br or straight up tdm
@@Zack-vi7is this game is more impressive than anything any youtuber has ever made
@@noheffthing what?
There’s already a small movement community figuring out some insane tech. I’m stoked to see where this goes
I love that the kills explode into coins like ready player one/Scott Pilgrim. Tho I've seen it before it feels unique. Hoping to try it out soon
Still the best fps on the market
