- I'm back riding MTB slopestyle contests again! - Copenride Denmark is my first slopestyle contest after about 4 years of not competing, but can I still keep up with the worlds best MTB freeriders on the FMB world tour, watch and find out!
I ride the huge Red Bull Copenride slopestyle contest in Copenhagen, Denmark and it is my first FMB world tour contest i've entered in about 4 years, so with my wild card entery confimred I make my over to Denmark to shred as hard as possible on this crazy course. Unfortunately the wind and rain was very hard to deal with and we ended up having a lot of problems with the course and the amount of practise we got but in the end the contest went on and it was sick to be apart of. I haven't seen a lot of these guys for ages and to hang out with all of them again has been the best thing after a year or more of lockdown in the UK! I was out here riding my Haibike custom dirt jump bike on this huge track with massive gap jumps, step downs and quarter pipes and I filmed the whole video on GoPro HERO 9!
I hope you enjoy the video!

Love how everyone is in full face helmets with all the protection on and then there's Sam with a little bucket on his head in a T-shirt
MAX!!
Prob only one who puts his bike together with a hammer and a brick too
@@thebr0wnhornet but atleast it works🤣
Because hes an absolute beast
Sam's precision in doing tricks in any place and any condition is absurd, allied with a huge know how in crashing, he always eject at the right moment being safe.
Considering you were playing it relatively safe, you definitely still kicked it with the big guns.
facts
Cheers dude!!
@@SamPilgrim so ready to see you start sending double flips!
🤩🤩🤩🤩
Sam is such an OG in this :D Everyone else with the guccied out bikes and the fullface helmets and Sam just rides, casually talking to the cam during his first run doing all of them tricks^^
What’s a guccied out bike? hope parts?
😂👍
@@AxlMetcalf probs just fancy, expensive parts and all that
Cool to think of how many riders he could be competing against soon that are in the sport because of him. Its a young man's game for sure. Just showing up and leaving uninjured is a win.
@@Losovox what you said, since jump bikes don't have a lot of parts they usually go for the shiniest most expensive stuff their sponsors have. Sam just changed his BB which is pretty sick^^ He also painted his forks with a can :D
Legend mate , can’t wait to see you learning new tricks again ! Gonna be sweet
*Gonna be epic
@sampilgrim so ready to send more double flips
Sam, I'm not much for commenting on youtube but I've been watching your videos for awhile and felt like I should. The fact that you went to a top level event like that on 3 hours of sleep and did that well is amazing. Don't let the results deter you in any way, shape or form. Your skill level and composure will get you thru when the young bucks nervousness gets to them. Keep up the competition and I sincerely believe you'll surprise yourself at how well you do!
Thanks man!! 🤙
Ditto!! It's truth, you are an amazing and gifted rider. We appreciate your videos and the love and respect you show the sport - don't let this get to you!!
Totally agree, respect Sam 👊
You can still do things that most of us dream of doing, the things you come up with are insane sometimes, but always entertaining, and your excitement for life is infectious!
Glad you like the vids dude! :)
Welcome back Sam!! It doesn't matter if you didn't get to the finals, you've still got it!🤘🏻😎 Btw, can't wait to see some street videos of that amazing city!
The mental preparation for an athletic competition like this must be huge! To try and maintain one's focus and be ready to perform under pressure. Amazing athletes!
🤙🤙
You rode well, Sam, and you had fun, so a win-win, for sure. And hey, they went to all that effort to construct those drops and ramps and everything, great that you got to ride them and let us come along for the ride. Just get some more sleep next time and you'll be hauling home a trophy as the best bowler in all the league. :)
Listening to the young bucks reactions when you send the big quarter, shows you still got it ✊
totally!
Good effort man! Close call on the qualify, must have been a fun trip either way. Strange course setup.
Sams a goat he doesn’t need to win anything he’s already won at life 💪
TRUTH!
Don't be so hard on yourself man. You are a legend! Just you being at the contest, doing your thing, is so bad ass.
There's hundreds of awesome riders to follow, but none are as interesting as Pilgrims. He's definitely the best personality out there in MTB.
Love that you got a staircase of doom in there!
Wow Sam, that was such a raw and genuine experience story. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Still and always will be my favourite. Nobody can match your level of enthusiasm and energy and that’s what its all about.
The moment I would never thought would happen again Sam pilgrim back on the slope style seen there’s life in the old dog yet watch out Max Fredrickson and Matt Matt Jones the old master is back Crankworks Has it got your name on it go get them tiger For people who don’t know Sam was ranked number one in the world for awhile
I admire your spirit and determination to have a good time even in less than ideal conditions.
You definitely seem like the glue of excitement that holds the riders together.
TO THE SKY 🤙🤙
Awesome video! Loved your effort and honesty. Real inspiration to us all. Especially us old timers. Please keep hitting up the comps. You're the best!
Would love to see you keep doing these competitions! So cool getting a behind the scene look into these events and get a first hand point of view. Just getting the dust off with this events, keep going!
Sam your a legend and legends never get old, you give me much inspiration to keep peddling at 57,,cheers mate
I love it when you're competing! I love the videos where we see the community, other riders and how the tricks develop. Those young 'uns love you! You were just unlucky to drop it in the same place on both runs. If one run was clean you'd have been in the finals! You did an amazing job and should no way be deterred
I imagine most people like Sam, start out as a kid having fun. Learning tricks, and loving it. As they progress, they end up in competitions. and in the beginning they start out doing the competition just for fun. But as they get better, competitions become a career, until they basically retire from it. Sam here, has traversed that, and has been able to keep doing what he loves, and now he is doing competitions for fun, and loving every minute of it. Amazing.
So glad you are riding competitions again. Its so fun to watch.
these young guns were looking up to you when they were still learning barspins! keep at it man.... win or lose, its good content, and with 1.5 million subs, you know those sponsors are happy! Here's to two million!
Really enjoyed the commentary on a real scene! Chin up, your were pushing for more. Competitive spirit is better than a qualy!
Also, your attitude made all the difference...lots of up-comers watching this and watching you there. You are a leader and a legend! Cheers!
That was a great vid. Great insight into the reality of a comp situation. I can barely talk after that little amount of sleep. Keep up the shredding 👊
great video Sam! your are such an inspiration for me, i even built myself a cheap dirt jump to begin practice, thank you for all the content! regards from México
Really dope to see Sam back in a contest. I imagine it can be quite challenging to get back into it, but can only get easier after the first one.
You got nothing to prove Sam ur a legend of mountain biking. And what you’ve done/continue to do does so much for the sport. Was sick to see u back in contests but you gotta do what makes u happy man👊🏼
Keep doing the comps man! We love seeing these events
That’s a good video bud,can really see what’s involved with that camera, one of your best videos I’ve seen ! Keep up the good work man thanks for sharing !!
The best thing I love about these birds is you end everything on a positive, you definatly still kicked it with the biguns some of the stuff you do is just insane
Considering the conditions, you did awesome! and I really hope we see you doing more comps in the future. we all know you still got it and will always have it. Big ups bro! 🤙
You are biggest inspiration for me to ride a bike, so much positive energy! cheers from Poland
New to your page but so awesome watching you in the comp mate, watched all the free bike challenges and it's super rad! Can't wait to binge more vids
Great video, showed a bit of a different persona and I liked it, it felt very real. I can relate to the schism between "I'm hear to have fun and see what I can do" and then the disappointment, like you are taking it seriously and not at the same time. Its clear to anyone watching that you can totally hack it and the other guys looked at you like a pro even if you are out of practice. I would be all for more comps as a different side of things, as long as you don't end up hurt by having to take too many risks.
Oh Sam I really felt for you on the 2nd run and the same thing happened. Hopefully you feel a bit better about it now, I can’t even imagine the pressure you must have felt going back to comps after so long. That in itself is huge! You were still the winner for me 💥🤟🏼❤️
Sam, I’ve literally starting riding mountain bikes from June and found your channel,, your the man
Looking forward to Seeing you do the AUDI NINES in a couple weeks!
Good luck 👍
Damn that first flair caught me off guard. Total 🔥🔥🔥 You killed it. Don’t get too in your head. You had the competition worried. That last 1/4 was wonky and slick. Don’t give up you’ll get em next round. Thanks for the amazing video 👍
Those big jumps you can feel thru the screen! Brave characters required
You and Max always best at it 💪💪
Despite the conditions and unfortunate events of the day…still blown away with the riding and entertainment factor! Easily my favourite rider by far! Great video!!! 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
Keep doing comps! You’re insane and don’t need to win, we all love seeing you ride with all the others regardless. 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Pls do more comps dude, it's so refreshing to see you with the big boys again🤘🏻
Seeing you in the morning, tired and kinda reconsidering your choices was so much refreshing... don't get me wrong, I love your constant excitement, but this, this is what makes you much more "human" :D
Well done Sam....you would've qualified with a bar spin...so that tells you how good you are and how much you can keep with the others .... and let's face it ..i competed in international power lifting events ....and think there was only 2 or 3 that went as it should ....and as a 50 year old mtb that's only just starting bmx skate parking ...your an inspiration...keep it going ...
I love your honesty at the end. You did not just blame your lack of sleep. You took it on the chin like a true athlete.
It was fun to watch so thanks for the cool content. You've got the game for comps. Just commit and give it your best!
You are a total legend. It's just one comp. You ledge, we salute you.
It was EPIC meeting u at the event and seeing u ride that good🔥🤙
This was a really honest and great video man! You're awsome!
Thanks for bring us with you Sam.
Gutted you did not get to the final. 100% sure you will return like the champion that you are
That was a beast of a course and you did well considering the circumstances and wind just keep doing the competitions you have real experience where the younger riders haven’t as much
Great vid, cool seeing your point of view, gotta do it again, your still up there, it's obvious the way the other riders react well to watching your riding.
Excellent video! Loving the emotional rollercoaster. Definitely would love to see more of this 👍
Great seeing you in Copenhagen. Hope you guys had as much fun, as it was watching you, even though the weather conditions wasn't that great 🤘
As one of the Danes there, i hope to see more of the sport live, it was epic
Don't feel down Sam. You're still out there killing it! Great content! Thanks for sharing!
The heart you bring to the sport and competitions! #1 🤙🤜🤛
Your the man we want to see at these competitions!
Your still a legend tho bro and you still got it mate proves your still in the game your the only rider iv seen that can ride any bike anywhere and still make it sick 🤘
Great video, Sam! It was pretty sic for us ordinary riders to follow along and see things from your perspective - thanks!!
Really enjoy all your vids Sam!!! Thank you!
Pumped to see you back in the comps! Garden jumps paid off big time 👊🏻💪🏼🙂 Don’t be too deflated about not qualifying, you did super well, and don’t forget you were competing against much younger riders 🙂
Never be upset for giving it full SENDITURE on that flare! That was an epic vid, and we need to see more of you in comps!
You definitely still have if skills to match with the other lads. You came 7th in the 1st qualifying round - that’s quite impressive; especially as your 1st competition in ages. Then the conditions were terrible. Head high; and look towards the next one. 🤙🏻👍🏻🍀
Don't normally comment Sam, but just wanna say you're my absolute inspiration and a big reason I've got into bikes so much. You're the absolute top of the game in the inspiration department
Keep smashing the comps mate! Great watching you send it to the sky!
You always kill it in my opinion. Good on you for getting back out there even if it didn't work out. Rest up mate!
Awesome job mate!! love how you walk us through every step of it!
For what's it worth your return to comps made for an epic and engaging video! One of your best ever IMO.
Was insane getting to watch you live! It sucks with the weather. In general, Red Bull didn't do such a good job with the event. I came a watched live on Saturday, and I didn't even know the slopestyle comp was cancelled.. However, being able to go to watch a contest with you and everyone else was definitely a dream come true!! And I'm super stoked to get out a ride more! 🤙
Yeah Sam keep it up! Hope to see you do (and win) a few more comps because you still got it for sure. Cheers!
Dont be to hard on yourself. I’ve seen videos of you riding with al de contest pros and they aren’t killing it on the urban terrain like you do. And that are the kind of videos we like the most! Keep it epic mate! 🤘🏻
Wicked to see you so chill in a contest. Talking your way through is mad 👌
keep it up Sam want to see you do more comps been watching for a while new subscriber and think you did great proves you got balls to try stuff others were not doing, sure you could of played it safe and qualified but you wanted to crush it, and entertain your viewer's at the same time, you did both.
I don't see any of the others missing a tooth or riding as cool as you did top man keep it up, More Competitions plzzz
Awesome to watch. You’re definitely still crushing it!
Nice work Sam...loved that you put everything at risk by doing what you wanted to do...there is no fail when you go big...
Hitting the bangers on that course. Killing it as usual, the wind was a big one. You still rocked it. ( Drop In ) No matter what place you came you had fun 🤩 💯👊🏽
This was so fun to watch man, you still stomped tho, props to you man!!! ⚡️
I love how despite being competitors everyone was cheering or giving props during the practice sessions. Kinda wholesome :)
Welcome to Denmark 😁🇩🇰🇬🇧🤘 and well done 💪Absolutely an honor having You here, looking forward to the next vid😊
Legend, such contagious energy
You had barely any sleep and still smashed it ! Takes alot to get in the zone sometimes.. looking forward to the street riding
That area looked slippery... I seen you do so many micro FLARES off concrete and it's like magic every time. And when you slide out it shows you are only human... Glad to see you back out there. And BTW... Men hit a weird peak at 50 so just keep doing you BooBoo! Unless your doing Dusty... lol
It was absolutely sick meeting you in person. I’m excited to see a street freestyle video from my hometown. Keep up the good work Sam!
Hey if you go that druggy town Christiania, and ask someone to show you the dirt jump park right across the canal, there is an INSANE very tightly packed dirt jump track like you wouldn't believe. It's insane. The roll ins are tree houses. It's in-between netto, and Christiania. Huge banked corner and so many lines.
Thank you for doing this for the channel! Next event i think your definitely gonna place ! Keep sending it bro 🤘🤘
Mate! 14th in a group of probably the top slopestyle riders in the world is bloody awesome. And it was just a small miss on the list trick too. Nothing to be worried about. Go shred the next comp and you'll smash it like the Audi 9's!
Such a shame weather didn’t help. Was looking forward to watch you live in Copenhagen. Great you’re back doing contests
When you say young sport...old age...31....made me feel like a grandpa lol...that's why you are one of the best you test and go beyond boundaries 👍
Dude, not that you're old or anything..cuz I'm older and still feel young..you did a fantastic job. Don't hang your head, instead, lift up that chin. You did awesome! Good for you to take it on.
Thanks for letting us share in the fun.
Siiick, mann! still doin it like you never aged. Epic!
So sick to see the Pilg back at it! Killing it mate 🔥🔥🔥
Best video yet Buddy! Enjoying it from Texas
Get after it again sir. The top is crazy, they can throw their tricks so fast, it is all about repetition and grinding out the movements. You have the talent and the skills.
good for you mate! so stoked to see you back in comps
Hey Sam. I would have loved to see you doin some crazy jumps in Denmark. I was hoping to get your autograph now that you where here, and maybe riding with you in the streets of Copenhagen. Thank you for your great entertainment, great spirit and you always humours mood. Sick!
31 is not old...you will see this later in life. make a go of it or not. you are an amazing rider. just enjoy your gift
