How Toby Fox Got His Music Into Pokémon Sword & Shield

- Toby Fox is in Pokemon Sword and Shield! No as a monster you can catch or anything. Instead, the creator of Undertale - of Papyrus, Sans, and everyone’s favourite, Metatton, has created a piece of music for the Galar region of the Pokemon world.
So how exactly did this come about? How did Toby Fox get the chance to work with Game Freak on such an auspicious title?
It all comes down to the power of friendship, much like the concept of Pokemon in general.
It also probably came down to Toby not caring about the polygon count of the Pokemon models. If you’re that kind of person, we feel bad that you can’t turn off that part of your brain and simply enjoy the experience. We’ve all been there, but please, try not to be a jerk about it.
For those who spotted the double line in our previous video on the Sonic movie, sorry about that - it was the last video we made on our old, dying computer. This video, on the other hand, is the first video we've made on our new, confusing, also kinda broken computer! We had to record the audio twice because it glitched, so here's hoping the finished thing is okay! If there are mistakes, they're not our fault!
Anyway, here's hoping you're enjoying Pokemon Sword and Shield, and you like hearing Toby's music in the game - albeit right at the end. Here's hoping you're not obsessing over minute imperfections within the title rather than just having a good time catching Pokemon.
If Sword and Shield aren't to your liking, that's too bad. At least you can still go back and play the earlier games! Gold and Silver have aged really well!

-No National Dex
-Animation rigs ripped out of the 3DS
-Lies about quality animations
-Around 500 Pokémon from the full roster not making an appearance
-The insultingly easy dungeons
Personally, apart from the last one, these feel like nitpicks rather than actual criticisms, and that's not the nostalgia talking. There are plenty of games that don't have much going for them in terms of content, yet they're still awesome games (Ex.: Undertale, SteamWorld Dig, almost every runner game out there). Plus, there's also the fact that one half of the dev team was working on SwSh while the other was working on Little Town Hero at the same time, effectively screwing over both projects. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a passing joke in Deltarune about how inane and asinine these complaints are.
Another one- The game is like ten hours long despite being the most expensive pokemon game yet. I'm not saying short games are bad, but so much of that is cutscenes for a story that, let's be honest, isn't all that good. It'll probably take longer for kids but still.
Regardless of whether you think the game is good or not, you can't disagree that previous games in the series had a lot more heart to them. I'm replaying Black right now and it's got so much effort put into it, whereas this game just feels like they've fully embraced the "Let's just do the same thing again" attitude that so many game studios have sadly adopted.
Is the game bad? I haven't played it, so I won't try to form your opinion on that. Is the game trying to innovate? The answer to that question is objectively no. The changes they HAVE made do more harm than good (always-on EXP Share, infinite PC boxes, etc.).
TLDR: I liked the old games better
moonlight | Overall, a lot of incompetence/laziness on Game Freak's part, resentments that have been building for the past few games finally boiled over. They *really* haven't kept up with the times, see, and most fans hoped this latest game would be something of a redeemer. It's...fine, but when you're making the first console game for the world's top-grossing franchise, you need to do better than "fine."
I'm deliberately not purchasing the game in a hopes that, should others do the same, Nintendo may hand the franchise over to a stronger studio.

Fun Fact: the "Battle Tower" theme Toby made has the same intro as the song he made for Homestuck "The Baby is You". I could be wrong about the exact track but it's definitely something along those lines.

Toby is obviously a very talented developer and musician, but the real reason he's been getting all of these opportunities is clearly because he's genuinely likeable, friendly, and very easy to work with.

This is the man who made music for Homestuck, created a game which millions of people loved (also made another game which is currently in development and had the same feedback), got Sans in Smash Bros, and got his music in Pokemon SWSH. Toby is such a legend.
