Band Maid is a hard rock Japanese band with seriously talented musicians.
Forget they're all female. Forget they're dressed as maids. Know that two members (Misa - Bass, Akane - Drums) are classically trained pianists and musicians who studied at the Tokyo Academy of Music while Kanami, the lead guitarist, has also been playing piano since the age of 3 or 4 but is concert standard. Almost unbelievably, given her skills, she only switched to guitar about 10 years ago! They all have superb musical ability as well as passion, a lack of ego and the drive to play real, in yer face, Rock which is why they are THE best live Rock band on Earth right now. OK, now that's explained, you can go back and marvel at how cute those outfits look and how incredibly beautiful all the band members are. The only band I've seen that is playing live like bands I went to see in the 70's, such as Led Zeppelin or Sabbath or Zappa. Real guitars, drums and bass played loudly and with passion as well as powerful Rock vocals with not an autotune in sight. They've revived the classic Rock sound and given the genre a much needed kick in the ass, as Babymetal have done for Metal. Ha, gotcha! Those ear-to-ear grins are exactly what I end up wearing every time I listen to them, and I've been into them for just over a year now. :-) You should definitely check out more of their stuff: you get a killer bass solo out of MISA on some tracks, Mike. What I love is that the novelty value of the outfits and the fact that they're all female ISN'T what they're selling: they are damned good musicians in their own right. It's funny watching 'technical' reactors (guitarists, vocal coaches, drummers) sit there with their mouths open...
A few years back, Jimmy Page was in Japan and caught a Band Maid concert. He was so impressed by Akane's drumming that he asked to meet her backstage. She thought people were winding her up and took some convincing that it was actually real, but the photo's there to prove it. He compared her to John Bonham, which is high praise indeed.
Miku (rythm guitar & backup vocals) was the one who came up with the idea for the band and put it together. She was working in a maid cafe in Tokyo where the girls had to do cute song and dance numbers for the customers, and it struck her that it would be funny if they broke into heavy rock instead. She found Kanami (lead guitar) via CZcams, Kanami had worked with Akane and Akane had gone to music school with MISA. Initially the idea was that Miku would sing lead, but after rehersals they decided that her voice wasn't strong enough and so they ran auditions and chose Sakai. Allegedly, they didn't tell her about the maid costumes until AFTER she'd signed on, and she was NOT impressed. MISA's apparently not keen on them either, which is why those two have gradually moved away from the classic maid look to the long black dresses over the years.

@@sahid3794 well in a couple of those clips from SHIBUYA MISA is standing behind a microphone stand. I don't know if she is just using it as a reference point on stage or iff she is starting to make some small contributions to the vocals. She was painfully shy and rarely spoke but her confidence has grown. She speaks more frequently during interviews and promotions and during the last round of promotions she actually did one by herself although it was a radio station sponsored by Sapporo beer. NEEDLESS to say she got quite drunk although the photo taken after the interview shows her to be in better shape than the guy interviewing her. Anyway it is possible that she can sing well enough to help out with backup vocals but was just not confident in front of a crowd. I will be watching very closely from now on.
@@stephenchigwidden7504 Read an interview with MISA a few days back and was surprised to learn she actually did vocals with her previous band. I think the talent is there but with two talented vocalists already (and her being very shy) that part of her skill-set may never be seen. It would be very interesting to see though...Band Maid fans would go bananas!
ENJOY the trip, These girls are the best thing to happen to rock music in the last ten year, maybe longer. They just keep getting better, but go back and watch their first video "Thrill" that really rocks and compare their newer stuff. They are amazing musicians and I can't help smiling when I see and hear them. Keep it up!
Mincho's favorite guitarist is Carlos Santana, so that might explain the 80s vibe. I love that they ae always having a blast playing with each other and for the crowd. Seeing Band-Maid live someday is very high on my bucket list!
Akane is a favorite drummer of Jimmy Page, when you see them gathering around the drummer or when Kaname is staring at Miku they are doing what they call "pulling faces" trying to make each other lose concentration and mess up
With 90+ songs in their catalog and MMR (Multi Maid Rock) as their genre, this song was not composed by them, but it is the song they play the most at concerts for having fun.

Band Maid and Baby Metal are both incredible. Great music like Nightwish. Mika on bass, and Kanami on guitar are both incredible.
Band Maid is awesome! I just discovered them this past summer and they are now my favorite band. Their official music videos are good by they are better as a live band. Was lucky enough to discover them just in time to catch their show in NYC last year. Can't wait until concert can start again and they come back around. How about doing a reaction to Leo from Frog Leap Studios? He does hard rock/metal covers to all types of music. He even managed to metal out the "Pokemon" theme song and "Sucker" by the Jonas Brothers. Anyone that can do that and do it well is the GOAT. The meaning is cool, but there are phrases that are difficult to hear and sing even for Japanese people.
She is a wonderful lyricist with a unique talent for writing lyrics.
And she says she expands her image of songwriting by watching movies or reading novels or manga that match what she wants to write . she is a very intelligent woman.

You either settle for awkward sentence structure but it still fits in the song or a more accurate translation that is now an explanation that doesn't fit well into the structure of the song. Examples: an awkward translation that fits is "Why are tears overflowing down?" When a better translation is why am l crying (over you). Or Secret My Lips which really means Give me a reason to remain silent or even why should l keep my mouth shut. Musixmatch on the web has some good translations. Regards.
Yeah they can get the crowd going. About 90% of their 2 hour concerts are at this every level, pace and intensity.

Band-Maid is based on the Maid Cafés attire. The employee's uniforms. And these days only three of them still wear a form of the uniform where Miku was employed as a waitress. The back story on this band defies belief. Sacramento loves Band-Maid.

The girls like to play tricks on each other while performing like trying to throw drummer Akane's timing off ( which seems to be impossible) or rp[lacing the beer in Mishia's can with straight water.
Top of the list performers out of Japan! Fun from the first chord.
Don’t discount the ladies because they’re wearing maid outfits. Misa on bass,Kanami on drums,Akane on drums are superb musicians. World class. Saiki has a unique voice (1 American said like a church singer..uhh???..no!) and Miku is the leader and formed and introduced the concept. Good marketing. She learnt rhythm guitar in the formative years from Kanami..(look at Thrill). Personality and entertainer. Everyone loves Misa. Her solos along with Kanami who composes the music are something else. If you listen to more songs,you’ll appreciate how talented they really are. Onset live is brilliant musically (has a U2 vibe in parts). Very atmospheric with great lighting. Listen to any other live songs. Real existence,Play,Don’t you tell me. Kanami has unique way of utilising many genres in 1 song. The Maids are one of the best bands today and what’s more they are so happy and playful on stage and the interaction with the fans is priceless. Gigs in New York,Dallas and LA wooed the crowd last year. Japan and Asia are producing some of the best musicians in particular female talent which has exploded in the last decade. Incredible emerging stars in prodigies in guitarists and drummers.Lisa X on guitar,Yoyoka at 10 on drums has multi sponsorships,appearing on the Ellen show twice,presented at NAMM 2020 in LA and performed in solos with touring international acts. Check out Petty Rock from Thailand who at 10 is one of the great guitarists Look at Burn live earlier this year. Cool stage performer who started playing in Thailand bars at 6. Seen to be believed.The best 7 year old.Indonesia has Ayu Gustfaz,a brilliant young teenage guitarist.
The Maids though are the best young female talent. Many bands can’t reproduce their studio efforts live but the Maids far exceed that live.
Start with Onset live in 2018. Has a hypnotic feel with amazing tapping from Kanami and very different interludes. If you truly appreciate good musicianship,you have to listen to more Band Maid. You won’t be disappointed.

They are high skilled and so talented. They know hard rock well. And there is another all female Japanese band, " LOVEBATES " they are power metal band, but they can play many kind of hardrock/metal songs. Power metal, thrash metal, prog metal, blues hard rock, ballad. Please try them. 😄👍

Watch ONSET from Zep Tokyo. It's an instrumental and will really demonstrate what they are capable of. Any song you listen to is good. I'm almost 69 and Band Maid is the best rock band I've seen in many decades. Don't judge these ladies on this single song. They slide through a lot of genres and can get light or heavy. If you want a real banger listen to Rinne )Reincarnation). Don't look at the live version as it was done for TV and they really chopped it down for time. Watch the MV.

The Drummer Akane was picked out by Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) as one of the greatest drummers he has ever heard, she thought the band was messing with until Jimmy asked for a selfie with her.
The song is very simplistic with a pretty standard structure to it. However they do it very well and look like they are having a blast

This impressive trio of sisters - Daniela 20 (guitar, piano and vocals), Paulina 18 (drums, piano and vocals), and Alejandra 15 (bass, piano and vocals), have elaborate musical affinities. They have participated in some of the most important rock festivals in Mexico such as Vive Latino, Hell & Heaven, Mother of All, Pal Norte, Force Fest and Rock al Parque in Colombia. They have also opened for Def Leopard (2 nights) & The Killers (2 nights)

Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid. Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements, melodies and High Priestess mediator between the Gods (Band Members) and the masters and princesses (Fans). At 26 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Leader) as Miku calls her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away the persona. Her charisma, performance and voice focus the experience.
Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 28 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kurrupo! No, no, no… KURRUPO!!
Kanami Tono (Ka-Naw-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 29 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more!
Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 29 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumRilla” is the Party!
MISA (Me-Sa) "Assassin" - Bass, 27 years old. A sullen, barefoot, dark spirit driving her 5-string bottom-end to hell and back, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. The Mysterious One literally kills it… every note.. uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!

Mmm I think they are not used to this style of music, Europe and Japan they have the best metal bands, another excelent Japanese female metal Band is Lovebites pure power metal more agresive. And the best metal singer in the entire world is Floor Jansen by Nightwish
