Rec room is not dying! I feel like the staff is working so hard, and they have to pay their workers to. I don't think many people are appreciative of what rec room has given us. Rec room is my favorite VR game and I really appreciate what they have done for me and everyone else.
We love Rec Room and and are thankful for all of the good times we've had, but it's in dire need of change. Great points, great video!

I feel like it’s not dying, but the community is changing. Old players from a few years ago aren’t playing as much and newer players are so much different.

I think rec room is in a limbo area atm, its not dying but its not gaining traction. I think more RRO's will help (so basically make a sequel of the quarry paintball map)

Idc how much you want to defend Rec Room putting out expensive items, they still tried to release a $100+ OUTFIT SET. THAT is inexcusable.
I cant agree with you more recroom is free sure but their prices are way to high.
I love playing this game with my friends, I always found this to be so much more socially interactive than other VR social games, many memories have been made on this game and many many more are probably on the way.
Rec Room has hit a pit stop, there is just nothing really "too exciting" at the moment. Also there is like no contests which makes creators kind of leave the game. I think Rec Room is relying on the community to make games now rather then them making any RRO's or Quests, I mean that's what they are kind of aiming for since RRS is out. But actual good creators don't even have a chance to be featured on the hot page or new page with all these cash grab games (yes i said cash grab because its true) like the Skibidi Toilet, Roblox, and Ignited rooms being promoted. I hope things get better in the future.
Definitely some valid obstacles!! The path to success is filled with bumps along the road. Hoping RR can fix some things and get creators feeling inspired again!
So da*n true. And don't even get me started on the Roblox rooms. Ex: Blade Ball, Easy parkour, Ultimate Sky Parkour(What tarapeutic plays often), and Door smasher games.
Yeah, it feels like low quality rooms are taking over the hot page so the GOOD rooms don't even get a chance to be played.
I think it's the amount of children playing ^skibititoiletcostumeparkfun9829288 taking away attention from rooms people spent months working on, being incentivized to put in the least amount of effort for a good chunk of change.
Like there are multiple groups of people making these types of rooms specifically and raking in thousands of dollars, and rec room continues to support them.

Perhaps, merisa could pick up the pace and give a few quest ideas from long time fans, or at least make a new event, like teenage mutant ninja turtles, to quench the audience's thirst.

I’ve been playing recroom in vr for about 3 or 4 years now and last year I reached level 50, after that I felt recroom got boring and I’ve not played since. It’s not dead it’s just gotten boring to me.
Man I stopped playing this game two years ago. I always want to play it again, but I can’t be bothered to get my VR and I always think about it.
Really I think the game is definitely not outdated There are always people making new fun games for people to play and enjoy so really. I just think this game is really good and always will be amazing
One of the reasons i quit was because i joined right when rec room was switching from the collage campus idea, to more of a weird community focused idea. And so when i first joined i loved the feeling of it being a school campus, and the "lore" to that. but now, its all focused on the community, i don't hate the community don't get me wrong, it just doesn't have the same, feel. Like i used to remember playing pool with random people in the rec center, but now there is only a "community maps" door. I think what I'm saying is i wish rec room would focus about meeting new people, and having ways to meet those people other than a cheap game on the hot page.
I 100% agree with you Tara. I want to support your points as well. Point 1. We all see a game, soak it in like a sponge, and then see nothing left. Again, this is a phase we all go through, but you get to make something unexpected come in something you know what is going to happen. Point 2. Hard-worked on items deserve hard-earned tokens! Sure the Amulet of Elseware seems implausible, but Rec Room is also trying to do their best to keep the game up date with cool items and please the player base as well! Point 3. This relates to Point 1. We see a game, soak it up, and move on. Point 4. Again, relates to Point 1. Rectubers soak in the game, make the content we know and love, but as we soak more in, there is less of the game to make content, which may explain how they might be going to different games to get content out of that. (Kinda like how Boethiah went to Gorilla Tag) Point 5. I’m sorry, can you design an RRO that costs money, figure out how the game works, model, color, code, light, etc?! A RRO like MITM was reall hard-worked on and they are focusing on a lot of different things at the same time. Like how RecRally gave us buggies for US to use. They are figuring out how to make new RRO and then give us the stuff used in the RRO for us to use. When it comes for Rec Room making new stuff, people are just impatient in my opinion. It’s like waiting for Minecraft’s next update. Point 6. VR users are mostly paired with other VR users if you join on a VR of course, and on screen, it is precisely the opposite. However, VR is a lot more immersive than screen, and a lot harder to do. But when you are on screen, you can hop on Rec Room without drawing your boundary and in less than a minute! But then again, Rec Room is laying down their low on the screen platforms, which does bring more people into the game, but leaves the VR players it he dust, kinda.

As a small creator i can agree that it is getting a little more difficult than usual. and i thought it was just me thinking this. kinda glad i'm not the only one! hoping the future looks bright and a lil easier!!
For sure, it's a little quiet these days! Not to say there's not still good views on certain videos but I notice it's not the same as 2021.. that's for sure.

My gaming style isn’t really in Rec Room other than “PvE.Doors”, but that went under the room search radar, so it’s not popular. (Completely free game, btw)
Because my content isn’t consistent, it’s hard finding a rec room audience.

I've had a consistently good time with Rec Room. I haven't spent a dime on it, been playing since January 2020, I'm only level 48 (in which I'm still confused why I'm not 50 yet 😭😭), and I've made some good friends with it.
Yes, the game was a lot more interesting and novel when you first start playing VR and/or Rec Room, I don't think the game is dying, but thats just my experience.
I keep hearing that phrase all the time, and it's kind of getting on my nerves. The are pushing out new updates, and expanding upon the creation tools more than ever, leading to literally millions of rooms being created. We also can't forget the RRO, ^MakeItToMidnight, which was released only a few months ago. The game certainly isn't dying any time soon, that's clear just from looking at statistics, - but the players' interest in the game might, which - similarly to what you mentioned in the video, is only natural.

Your last point about VR is the strongest reason why I haven’t touched the game since mid 2022, (other than make it to midnight). Frankly everything from the poor matchmaking, inability to communicate with people, and the UI changes. I’ll constantly say it, there is no reason to fix what is not broken, but that dang UI was constantly downgrading to appeal to the screen users.
Pushing that aside, I think the biggest reason I played a lot was the weeklies. This is by far the biggest reason I stopped playing. I remember even before they became “weekly” monthly’s, skins started to be sold in shops. Apart of doing the weekly was to get an item that was exclusive and limited time based. Now sometimes a weekly could be repeated, but that happen in so far stretches of time, that it would be infrequent enough where it wouldn’t matter. But now, those same weeklies from years ago, would be sold in shops for an egregious amount of tokens. How would this make me feel, seeing stuff that I actually work for years ago, what made these skins so valuable, simply be sold for a cash grab (omg the horror, the words said in the video.) What makes this worse is when skins were originally being sold at the shop they were original and be very infrequent. But now, sure they’re still original, but come out nearly every week, whereas the “weeklies” are often still recycled skins. This I find funny, because the weekly rotation, almost always have a unique skin, so the claims of devs running out of ideas for the weeklies are just wrong when there’s fresh new ideas every week still.
I don’t know if any of that will make sense, but if you gave your time to read this, feel free to input or challenge what I’ve said

My friends and I do a lot of building revolving around transport (trains, cars etc) and one thing that gets in out way is the net limit, it’s completely ruined events we’ve held. Now, we completely understand that it’s there for a reason, but it’s extremely limiting our creativity and it would be nice if there was a way around it

If you are getting bored of the games in RR, then here is some stuff to try out!
1. Go to a sandbox and hangout with friends, cause chaos, or create stuff!
2. Try to complete every quest
3.go to art games and draw!
4. Go to the Recenter and mess around and make friends
finally, 5. Try out new games from smaller/ other creators. Or make a game !

I been a recroom player since 2018. I started becoming a creator in 2020 and accomplished a lot I've gotten contest items and much more. In my opinion the game is dying. One thing that is sad is a lot of good creators are getting shadowed by these clicker and money maker games. Idk why recroom is bringing these money games attention that got basically no work put into them. (I can go on and on with more on that) but also when new items/limited gets released it's either already been out before or recolored Lame and Lazy. (I'll give it to them new items get released but rarely and takes forever) but then it's just way over priced.
I always will give it my recroom best. But why can't recroom themselves give it there best?
It's probably like whack-a-mole with those games. The best they can do (which they're working on) is custom carousels so that the 9 year olds can enjoy their clicker maps while the older crowd who appreciates a high quality map can have better discoverability for that. I know RR is working to improve these things and sadly it doesn't happen overnight. I have faith it will get better!! I am sorry you're feeling discouraged. Many people are.

The ark mention is too real I was so into multiplayer servers in that game for like an whole summer I would get raided cry for an day and then grind back up but after a wile I couldn’t handle it anymore 😂
4:38 ive stuck with geometry dash ever since i was 6 years old. still play it too this day and im 100% sure (considering the next update that weve been waiting 7 years for dropped) that theres so many other people still playing

This game is just so good. Hopefully, I live long enough for them to make a time machine. So I Can go back. To see how it was back in 2023
A cool trick that I use all the time with rec room is if it starts to feel boring then find another game to play and take a quick break on rec room (around 6 - 9 months) then come back to rec room and everything in rec room you have forgot about will seem so cool to you again and it will make you wanna play again. I play rec room very often and I only met few people, then suddenly it becomes active again
i started 2021 in july and i was exited (besides i was stuck in orientation for 30 minutes) i was real exited to play and when i got it i first went to the rec center and played pool with someone i did not know, we became friends and then they havent been on since 2022. some of my friends that i made months ago are still here but some are leaving, its like games only get popular when there is a crossover or something else.

I personally don't think its dying, but it is changing. I've been a level 50 for a while and I left for Gorilla Tag like 2 years ago, I just came back to play the game a bit and it was actually really fun, and community game's like Dorm Room PvP still have so many people playing it, so the game isn't dying, the player base is changing. I bet at some point a ton of the level 50's will come back to try the game and have a lot of fun.

in my, and my friends, opinion(s) , it is the money grabs. It’s annoying now how every game has something you now have to pay for (like a certain gun you have to pay tokens for) . Also, rec room has just got a little too confusing. the reason me and my friends used to play so much was it’s fun simplicity.
Usually for me, to keep the game more interesting for me when Im playing MITM, I usually make fun challenges to keep the game exciting (although im literally lvl 48)

life hack: ever gotton boring of something? just take a 1-2 day break from that thing and then go back to it. but when you come back to it, act like its the first time youve ever used it and have fun acting like its something completely new! i found this method very helpful.
personally,i dont think rec room is dying. its just those people who dont find it fun who make these statements. i know how hard rec room is trying and i know they will keep coming out with new quality updates in order to keep their game fun and nice for the community. Also Tara, i hope you will continue to make videos on this game bc you are a main reason i play the game. i love your content and i hope you will continue down this path bc if you do, you will succeed more than ever before. just keep putting in the effort and this channel will thrive. love the vids tara!

As someone who's been playing since 2020, I think playerbase fluctuations is normal! I've seen it plenty of times, where I'd join a rec center one time of year and see people a'plenty, walking around and talking. Then another, it gets kinda quiet! And i feel as that's normal! People grow, life hits people, people get busy and have responsibilities out of game! I think some people need to realize that maybe the reason they feel as the game doesn't feel the same as it used to be (and I'm definitely one of these people) is because they've changed, not necessarily the game! After all, there'd be no nostalgia if there wasn't personal growth or some sort of change in oneself! I'm just kinda spatting, but good video!

The problem really isn’t how people just play games, it’s more the type of game Rec Room is and is becoming. Tell me where does tmnt, alien invasions, and hackers fit into a 80’s future tech college campus? Rec Room WAS a little game similar to LBP, and VRChat, all with a unique theme that’s comforting and welcoming. Today, Rec Room is literally just modern vr Roblox and striving to become modern vr Roblox. Most of the time it feels like the devs just entirely forgot what the hell Rec Room even is. The top games are literally vaping simulators, and low effort grindy gacha scams. All of these games are specifically designed to appeal to children, make money, and exploit people who just don’t know better. Just because some people a few years ago said Rec Room looked like Roblox doesn’t mean it just has to be Roblox because that’s what sells best. Once everyone grows up, it will be extremely clear to see how much of a difference there is between what Rec Room was and was going to be, and what Rec Room is at the moment and what they want to appeal to. This is NOT Rec Room, and that’s just the truth. People today are progressively playing it safe and being lazy by copying what works, and never making any new ideas. Rec Room is just jealous and insecure of everything else so it’s trying to be like everything else.
Yes, I’m going too deep, but I really wish there was someone other than indie devs with creative interests that would keep making new ideas and influence new ideas
Ain't No Way a person with over 100k tokens telling us 9k tokens is not much.
For me it is the complete lack of player communication. They have done away with pretty much all of AMA and Q&A content, they have hidden featured content, provided they even update those any more, and they don't even tell you about the update that you are suddenly downloading for some reason. They introduce more bugs than they do fixes with every update they bring out then takes months to fix them let alone even acknowledge them. So much so that one update it just starts working again and nothing in the notes about it. The October 24th update broke several things and people are still having to work around the PSVR log in issue and still getting the "update your game" shirt for items they just purchased. Something you think would have been fixed in 2 weeks. Nope, now 2 months and they are out of office for a few weeks now. So, see what happens next year I guess.
The lack of player communication gets me too. Especially doing away with old Room Rewards with like less than a week's notice. Sigh. Hopefully next year is better on that front, I agree.
they should add a " Matchmake with only VR players" option like the "Try to not Matchmake me with juniors" option. I feel like that would be amazing
Many times I thought of quitting recroom. If it wasn't for my friends trying to pull me back in I would've stopped playing by now.

I'm a content creator for Rec Room just not on CZcams but on Tiktok. Over the past 6 months or so I've seen so many relevant creators in "Rec Tok" space stop posting or deleting their entire account. But from what I've seen just because bigger creators left doesn't mean it dying because as they left I've seen just as many new creators join the space to. I don't content creation is dying what so ever as I also think I've seen more people start than quit.
I still enjoy the game think just I hate not being able play crescendo on quest.

i think it is a cash grab, is because of the tmnt bundle i was really exited when the trailer came out on the youtube until i went to the map really happy seeing all the skins there i pressed it until everything was over 9k. it is really sad for the other people that have been waiting to get this skin. rec room needs to sort this out the most.

This is Commander X speaking, I have foolishly left the RecRoom Omniverse to the Roblox Omniverse. I truly miss RecRoom and wish it was still popular. To me, it was my joy ever since 2021. I have spent a LOT on this game and I need this game to become popular again. I truly miss playing RecRoom. Please Tara, help our Omniverse. This game is almost fully in your hands as I, am rusty as I also left to PavLov.

I don’t see a game dying based on the player count, I see it based on when memories are no longer being made, everyday, friends that I met in a game get online to do dumb shenanigans in a custom room or run around in the back rooms or laugh at someone who died in a quest in an embarrassing way. The point is, this game is not dying, as long as your with the boys, any game is a great time, except for league of legends

Yeah I started mobile then when vr but I now find myself on mobile again its just easier to grab and hop online. I do wish I would get put into lobby with players close to my age and not the 5 years with the bad mics and the need to scream as loud as they can when some one takes the ball from them

Eh… a dead game refers to a game that has no players and is considered a failure, this game is doing fine and well, I see more and more new players experiencing this game and I wouldn’t consider a game company that’s worth 3+ billion dollars and doing multiple collabs to be a failure

I think that RecRoom is not persay dieing but it isnt doing good. I know there's a huge part if the community wanting to help it tho... i just hope one day we all come together and we help RecRoom.
It’s a ok game I wanted to play on my PSVR 2 but they hadn’t released it and a bunch of more stuff like full body and stuff like that I just want more RROs to make the game more interesting I haven’t played RR in months 😢

I’m going back to Rec room today, I was missing the originals, as I’m normally a Roblox player, they started to get boring.
I haven’t played RR since October of last year and I don’t miss it.

Personally i feel like rec room is a game that is what you make of it, rec room isn’t boring per say- its just a primarily social platform and people are cliquey hence the “people are leaving” sentiment. It’s not that people are leaving and the game is boring, it’s just people don’t see past their inner bubble and once the people they’re familiar with and the gameplay they started with start changing they start lumping everyone into their personal experiences. I personally can always find something to do as long as there’s people around but again that could just be me
It is what you make it - very apt words! I think there's endless fun to be had in the game, but I will admit that finding new (enjoyable) maps has been tough in the last year or so. I hope the customized carousels fixes that issue!
Rec room is fairly decent for players, but it's just the player base kinda not realising that there are SO MANY other rooms available to play and they just can't find the right room to actually get use to.

I remember being in test squad (shh! Don't tell anyone, its a s e c r e t !), and we were informed about plans for desktop players being able to play RR, and most of us were very concerned for the future. It was clearly pandora's box being opened. Fast forward four(?) years, and I still stand by that concern. More users, on more platforms dilutes the user base. Good for a company, bad for a tight-knit community. We were never going to win this. RR died for me shortly after PC was able to play. I could see the impact almost immediately, and it really turned me off. I still can't leave it though, its still the best VR creativity tool I've ever used, and my primary creative hobby. I'm just quietly tinkering and making things more for myself these days...
I feel like a big problem is all the cash grabs but I make them and I’m not going to stop 💀😭

It is still fun, due to the new RRO's and tons of really good community games. People saying the game's dying are not giving it their Rec Room best.

Haven't made that many vids on Rec Room but I did want to be a Rec Tuber but as I watched all the other youtubers I kinda thought about how far Rec Room could really go on a youtube channel, I'm thinking about making my channel about doing something else on my channel before I do to much, I can't stop Rec Room all together, because I still work on games all the time but I'll probably do less video's on the game and do video's on other thing, I'll probably make a video on rec room every once and a while. I used too make rr content but my ps4 and vr broke but content is so hard too get popular and I go too other games but it’s fun and RECROOM is a game I never quit yes it gets boring but u gotta go through and find the light in recoom
I feel like rec room is in a stage similar to how “geometry dash” was in. Weird comparison I know. But kinda how they game FELT dead but just had nothing going on with a minuscule amount of players. Then gd got a giant update and people started coming back. Or kinda like Fortnite’s OG update that they had. They just need something that will bring players back along with revamping a little bit

I wish i could play but rec room cant get to psvr2. I used to play on psvr1 but then my screen went permanently dark and i couldnt play in vr anymore. I refuse to play flatmode cuz its just not the same. Im gonna try to fix my headset
I've just gotten bored, playing for hours at a time for months I got burnt out
From a creator's POV, It feels like they are favouring the money grab maps, e.g, parkours. Over the creators who work hard on their map's, it is very disheartening to see those maps get more traction than high quality maps, For example look at featured rooms, they have been pushed to near bottom of the watch, when the entire point of featured rooms was to get more engagement and more room visits now you get just 1K, 3K if your lucky. And from others opinions, people are falasly getting banned for no reason, i have been with friends who didn't say a word, and got voice banned.
I really do love my PaintBall time (even when I get get hammered by the really good players) 🤔
I rage internally when that happens haha!
Rec rooms new voice moderation is definitely a big issue.
Personal I think the reason it’s “dying” is because of the drought of new well polished games, and the ones that are no one plays
The reason I don’t play rec room on be any more is because the mic on my psvr broke
As someone that was playing since 2019, I mainly think that rec room is not dying, because mainly of what she said and of my experience of teaching new people.
Rec room is definitely not getting new players.. its 9:40 pm for me and i’m finding RRO’s being entirely void of players, and I mean entirely. Make it to midnight did have a single other player, other games with nearly 300k likes and millions of visits. Not another player in sight!

See the thing is most of us screenies can’t afford a vr I got lucky and are getting on in two/three days after playing RecRoom for almost 2 years now so yeah a lot of us just play on console/mobile/pc because it’s easier

They don’t add new paintball maps last one was in 2020 😢
I feel it tried to go in more of Roblox’s direction when rec room 2.0 or whatever it was got introduced I left I felt like rec room was loosing its charm

I don't believe it is dying at all, though with all the new AI generated stuff going on, I can understand the worry of 'will a creator like myself be overrun by AI generated content and thus no longer have a monetary interest here anymore?' I just hope that they continue to keep showing and encouraging creator content with contests, events like rec rocks/rec con and opportunities like Rec Holiday Market. Also I have played Golden Trophy dozens of times and I still feel the urge to jump in and make a quick run after building for hours. I know there are lots of people who feel it is 'boring' but that is because they probably need to try out some new games, of which there is a great many to choose from! And last of all, I agree that changing games is just a 'gamer' phase. I played Minecraft for years before slowly shifting to something else. I even switch from 7DTD, Conan Exlies and yep, Ark Survival as well! I can't get enough of flying around on my fine feathered Argie friend or hunting down the elusive unicorn just because I want to have one in my Ark pet collection XD. Play on gamers, there is nothing wrong with taking a gamer break, but it doesn't mean the game you are leaving will die because you left. :)
Ahhh I forgot about AI generated content impacting creators! A legit concern! I still play Golden Trophy a fair bit too, haha! and YES ARGENTS ARE THE ONLY WAY TO FLY! Best birds in the game! 😆
I really think the game is just stable atm and not gaining but not really losing that many at the same time The problem i have with the game is that a lot of the games on the hot tab are just the same thing over and over again
Rec room is not a cash grab
They need to make money
I see why people complain about the 18k for a tiny cosmetic that you can barrely see
But at that point just dont buy it
Also im happy its not like nintendo everything there costs 60 dollars
I don't have many points of comparison because RR is the game I've played most. Had no idea Nintendo was pricey!
