Lovely pond my friend
Thank you 👍
You'll build yourself a better filter, plus I'll enjoy watching the build. One of favourite pond channels. Hope bizley is having fun
Cheers Stan, looks like I might have to start planning a build, thanks for asking after Bizley, hes doing great, have a great weekend 👍
@@DerbyKoi brilliant mate, look forward to seeing the build
I have a pressure filter to to a shower, but I'd love to change it for a upflow filter, brilliant content as usual. Have a great weekend
Cheers mate, still undecided. Thanks for watching stay safe 👍
Definitely go for the upflow filter buddy you don't want a ugly filter in that nice garden 👍👍👍
Cheers mate, I like the idea of the upflow and I love building things so it's got a good chance, thanks for your suggestion, much appreciated 👍
Thanks for the update Andy 👍
Cheers mate 👍
After your successful moving bed build you gotta build an upflow filter, then I can copy that build too 😂😂😂. Thanks in advance Andy 🤨👍👍👍
I appreciate your suggestion even if its self motivated 😂👍
Hi Andy, another great video mate. Thanks for the mention, much appreciated. Did you see Lau's French Connection Slippers, lol. they're awesome. I think she's beat us all lol. You take care mate, Terry.
Cheers mate, I did see lau slippers lol. What have you started 🤭. Have a great weekend 👍
Yeah I think I won the most ridiculous sleepers comp. And exactly, Terry, what have you started! Love it though, you have all brought so much joy into my life.
Hi Lau, I think your a good sport 👍👍. By the way, would you mind if I use a clip from your video of the slippers? I don't mind if you don't want me to, it's no problem and I understand. Take care, Terry.
Lau said go right ahead and use the footage, she told me (honest) 🤐🤐🤐🤭
@@DerbyKoi Andy!! 🤣🤣
Yeah Terry it's all good from me. Of course you can use it! You guys just make me laugh.
Great video mate go with the up filter you won't regret it
Cheers mate, I think that's probably what I'll do, I love building things anyway so happy days 👍
I've had a couple lose there colour recently, thanks for your video
Lets hope the colours return, thanks for watching 👍
Hi Andy, I now have a float switch fitted and wired up as you demonstrated in your how to video, it works a treat and I have got peace of mind, a massive thank you for that. I did have to get a bigger air pump as my little 45 lph was not strong enough to power the aerated bottom drain, I got one of theJecod 65lph ones, works a treat. Thanks for another great video your pond and fish look amazing so thanks again to you and Machine Mart. Jobs a goodun.
Hi Dave, that's brilliant mate, glad I could help, I'm surprised the 45 pump wasn't strong enough, I've just had to clean the air pump filter because mine wasn't running properly, I'll show that in a upcoming video. Glad your all sorted.
Stay safe 👍
I cant believe the weather changes recently, hope your koi colour comes back, cheers for the update andy
Cant trust this weather 🤨 I don't hold much hope for his colour returning. Stay safe Brian 👍
@@DerbyKoi 🤞
Feeding them well mate I like the probiotic I feed it all summer expensive tho
Great update mate hope the slippers are wearing in 😂 mine are
Take care mate 👍🏼👍🏼
Cheers mate, koi eat expensive food, Bizley just had a steak and dessert, and I'm just having a bit of old toast. Thank god my slippers are warm and comfortable 😛. Stay safe 👍
Build your own filtration, I made one of your moving bed filters, so if you build one I can build build that too 😂. Enjoyed the video thanks mate
Hi mate, I remember your build from the Facebook video you sent. Not decided what I'm doing yet, stay safe 👍
Hi Andy, weather 🤦🏻♂️so weird before watching this video I was gonna say have a go at building a upflow filter since you done a cracking job with the bio chamber but your already on the case of a new filter, I would go for a upflow filter out of all the filters you mention, it’s cheapest and I think you will be amazed on how well they can work, plus would like to see a DK(derby koi) upflow😉
Take care👍🏻
Hi mate, with all the great comments I've had it looks like a build is in the planning, I like the double tube design but I see some sod beat me to it 😂. Still might pinch some (most) of your ideas but still claim copyright 🤭. Cheers mate 👍
@@DerbyKoi copyright 🤣🤣🤣mate you just made my day 👍🏻
Lol
I think the 3 will work. My personal opinion based on using two of them is that the pressure filter will always hold some bad bacteria if not cleaned properly. They are good, but might give you more work than anticipated. The beads filters are amazing on skimmer lines but I always find them complicated to maintain and the pipework become big. My take is that with the 10 000 pump you have on it, you could build a really good and efficient upflow filter, or buy a Tempest. They are great and so easy to clean, flush and maintain. I flush the tempest every other day and that I have put an air pump on the tempest, after Twisted Koi video, and I will fully clean it once a week. To me, they are the easiest option and the less complicated.
Cheers lau, I think after all the comments I've received I'm probably going to build an upflow. I considered a pressure only because I'm so busy at work and home improvements, what I could do with is help with slabs 🤭.
Oh I might have given wrighty permission to use your slippers footage, an honest mistake 🤭🤭🤭😂
@@DerbyKoi haha you make me laugh with the slippers 🤣
The slabs... Hmmm.. 🙄 not my favourite job as you well know... If you were closer, I would have given you a hand though 🤣
I am so so envious of you log store!! And the amount. I am always hunting for logs.
@@LauMagroTheFrenchKOInection when I have a log fire in the winter, you're very welcome to come and warm your slippers 😬
@@DerbyKoi 🤣🤣🤣
Don't know much about bead filters, I use a pressure filter to a shower works great. Although I'd love to see you build something. Thanks for the update
Cheers mate, undecided which way to go, thanks for your suggestions 👍
Could use a couple of planters with gravel in them for your filter and plant your water cress and bog plants in there
Thanks for your suggestions Graeme, I think I going to build an upflow filter, I love building things and it will suit my purpose 👍
I'd go for the upflow filter. I'm in the process of building one to replace the pressure filter I run on my heater. I'll be doing a video soon. I've got all the parts now, I just need to put it together and build a stand/cupboard for it. I had nothing but trouble with my pressure filter and it was a real pain to clean. It was an old design and the new ones are probably a lot better but my experience has put me off them somewhat.
Cheers for the suggestion, still undecided but I love building things so it might be the way I go plus I think it will be better filtration, good luck with your build, let me know when you've recorded the footage
@@DerbyKoi Will do. Hopefully it could be this weekend
👍👍👍
Good see you bk Andy I wud build up flow filter from skimmer good luck mate 👍 av used that food in past like change koi foods now using coppins high growth koi love it few koi over 60 cm anyway but few 30 cm so should help them good luck with your filter 👍
Cheers dave, another vote for the flow filter, looks like I might be planning a build, koi are loving the new food and im seeing less waste. Thanks for watching 👍
@@DerbyKoi suit your pond well because you can see just how much dirt pulls out each day when needs a clean good luck mate 👍
I run a DIY upflow filter from my skimmer, best thing I ever did. It`s 1000mm x 200mm, 15mm bottom side air feed to agitate the micro k1 media, which is about 16ltrs.
Cheers Andrew, I'm leaning more towards a upflow, it'll be more effective and I do like building things, thanks for your help mate, much appreciated 👍
@@DerbyKoi Your welcome
I'd say go with an up-flow filter using K+ media as the filter addition to your skimmer. While most of the pressure filters I have had experience with work reasonably well they tend to be expensive for what they do and despite what the manufacture says are better suited to smaller ponds with goldfish, not koi. Bead filters work well for the most part but can be expensive to purchase, even second hand, and the media in them gets clogged very easily if not cleaned/back washed properly and to do that you need a strong air supply like a spa (hot tub) blower to do a proper cleaning. Water pressure from your skimmer pump won't be enough. Go with the up-flow. :)
Cheers mate, I have little knowledge of the bead so that's useful info, I know the upflow will be the better option and I love building things, I'm just so busy with work and home improvement I thought the pressure filter will be a 2 min job, but I know I wouldn't be happy so I might be ordering parts soon for a build 😬 thanks for your help, much appreciated 👍
Andy nice update what type are those bag planters you have your watercress in do they float and ware did you buy them from please. Look forward to your next filter build. Your fish are looking brilliant. stay safe 🙏🐟🐟🐟🐟🙏
Hi Carol, the planters do float, I made them myself out of old scraps I has lying around, I'm thinking of making some larger ones which I'll film If I do thanks for watching have a great weekend 👍
Enjoying the video, can't help with the filter idea, sorry. But I hope you and bizley have a fun weekend.
Dorothy
Hi Dorothy, glad your enjoying the channel, Bizley said hi 🐾🐶 take care 👍
Hi Andy great video as always thank you. What are your thoughts to adding a bog garden to the side of your pond for even more filtration?
Hi Nick, if I'm honest (and I am 😬) I dont know too much about bog filters. In my situation and space I wouldn't have one, but I believe they're a great addition to pond filtration and a good nitrate muncher too. Thanks for watching. Stay safe 👍
Do a filter build andy, better for you, better for us to watch and copy 😬👍
Lol cheers mate... I think 🤔😆
I think the pressure filter would work a treat but the upflow will make better viewing 👍
Another build 🤔. Maybe 😬
@@DerbyKoi yes matey another build 🤣👍🏻
@@just4koi143 shut it you 😂
@@DerbyKoi 🤣🤣🤐have a great weekend matey 👍🏻
@@just4koi143 you too 👍
try a bead mate just coz i would like to see how it goes 🤣 another good video 👍👍👍
You buy the filter and I'll test it for free 😆, cheers mate stay safe 👍
I would use an oase filtoclear 16000 pressure filter run my 5000ltr pond on two of them linked together works great
Thanks for the suggestion 👍
4-5 degree drop in temperature is too much. I find a couple of my koi are sensitive to large swings in temperature. Could you not drop in a heater (or two) when there is a predicted cold spell overnight? My covers come off July 1st this year. June here is so unpredictable.
Yes mate I was concerned about the sudden change, the forecast didn't predict days of colder temps 🤨 thankfully they seem to be ok, but I might consider some heating for next year but not sure it would of helped this time, I think a few of us were surprised at the weather change so quick. Stay safe 👍
Where did you get your pond thermometer in shed?
From here mate 👍🏻
thermometer.co.uk/home-thermometers/670-indoor-outdoor-thermometer.html
Sorry mate but that's the only thing with goshiki they can change very quickly I think it tends to be with water hardness iv seen a fishes hi even turn white! Personally I would bury a pressure filter for the skimmer! Anyway whatever you go with I'm sure the job will be a gudgeon!😉👍
Cheers mate, hope the goshki colours come back but I'm not hopeful ☹, thanks for your filter suggestions.
Jobs definitely a gudgeon 👍🐟
@@DerbyKoi look forward to the progress of the goshiki mate 👍
I've got a 5000lt pond on a 6 bay filter, which Is a pain to clean, how do you rate your easy pod?
Hi mike, the easypod is a great bit of kit, very easy to clean and maintain. No more dirty hands messing with dirty media, just turn a few switches and taps. I did find a small issue that detritus was gathering at the bottom which is easily sorted by using a brush on a stick to aggitate it while its cleaning itself. I do have videos showing this. 👍
Nice vid as usual Andy, always wondered who would bother to give a thumbs down....very strange. Anyway, re the skimmer - I have the same set up, straight back to the pond with no filtration. Last few weeks I have been lining the basket with a very fine net which works realy well. It got a bit overwhelmed when we had all that dead algae but now that has cleared up, it's working OK again. Do you leave the skimmer on 24/7?
Hi mate, I dont worry about 👎 cant please everyone 🙂. I've used a bit of floss occasionally and (dont laugh) a cotton sock on one of the returns which does a great job. But I want something more permanent, yes mate I leave the skimmer running 24/7. Stay safe mate 👎 oops👍 😬
@@DerbyKoi Sock - love it. Yeah i know what you mean about wanting something more permanent. I think in the future when I upgrade the filtration system I'll end up putting it through that. By the way - thanks for the food survey you did the other week. I bought some of the NT Labs Medikoi. Early days but I'm finding they need much less of that compared to the other foods I've been using. Will be interesting to see how you get on with it too. Cheers Andy.
Mine are loving the new nt labs, I have noticed less detritus in the pond, but as you say early days
My plants ain’t doing well this year because no nitrates for them not sure must be the moving bed starting to do the job and regarding your filter options I would attempt a up flow filter manly because I want to see how you would make one so can copy 🤣😂🤣
My cress is not doing so well either, probably due to low nitrates too, thanks for your filter suggestion, and honesty regarding pinching my copyrighted design 😂. Stay safe mate 👍
You said you don't want gravity return what about converting the skimmer to gravity feed as you can get 4" threaded tank connectors that might just fit the bottom of that skimmer and return the water from any sort of filter with a pump ?
Hi mate, I'm not sure I want to disturb the skimmer, plus having it gravity would mean the filter would have to be below ground level, which is why im thinking pump to pressure filter or upflow. Thanks for your suggestions though, appreciated 👍
@@DerbyKoi I don't know if this unit is any good but if you did choose to go down the pressure filter route for now swell uk have there pressure filter deluxe 17000 on offer for £120 and it can take 12,000 LPH throughput ! As your only after mechanical filtration. But I imagine at that flow rate the 24w UV would be useless !
Cheers mate, I'll take a look that's a good price, not sure which direction I'm going yet but I really appreciate you letting me know about the pressure filter 👍
Your going to have to stop showing me your lilly's I'm well jealous 🤣👌.the loss of colour could be the temperature drop I think that's what happened to 2 of my grow on's 👍
Bizley said he'll sort you some lilly cuttings for next year at cost £🦴🦴🦴 🐶😆.
Hope the colours come back but I'm not hopeful ☹
@@DerbyKoi 😜👍 yes mate fingers crossed I had a tancho sanke and a kujaku lose their colour someone told me if they lose Beni it doesn't come back 😩
Another commented its more likely hard water, which I have, and goshki are prone to it. Have a great weekend 👍
I think a pressure filter would be ideal, although I do like self built filters. Keep well mate
Thanks for your suggestions Jason 👍
Are your lillies a certain “hardy” type or do your koi just leave them alone? 👍
The variety is Nymphaea alba, I dont know if there anymore hardier, i can tell you that another CZcamsr called wrighty has them and his koi dont touch them either
